Review: This release is the second in a series of ten records that Dutch label and festival promoters extraordinaire Dekmantel has planned for 2017 to celebrate its first decade in business. Call Super's "Fluenka Spoke" is an understated affair; over a stripped back, clicky groove, the UK producer adds in whirrs and ticks, birdsong and tropical effects. It makes for a heady affair. On the flipside, Dekmantel have tapped Shanti Celeste and her contribution, "Hinoki", doesn't disappoint. Over a rolling, rickety rhythm, she adds in beautiful, billowing chords and breathy vocal samples - an intoxicating vision of Detroit techno, routed through Bristol and interpreted in great style.
Review: 2015 is shaping up to be a big year for Shanti Celeste, the unofficial first lady of Bristol house music. The Chilean-born producer has been in fine form of late, and here delivers another killer 12", this time for Secretsundaze. There's naturally much to admire throughout, from the techno-tempo, synthesizer-heavy deep house shuffle of "Golden" - also available in an extra-percussive, extra-eccentric Dub remix form on the flip - to the bumpin' beats, ethereal pads and dreamy freestyle vocals of "Nu4him". Arguably best of all, though, is "Sun", whose inherent dreaminess is countered by punchy drum machine hits and twisted, alien electronics.
Review: Make Time on Kowton's Idle Hands label arrives just in time for the summer. The title track is an evocative affair that will remind its audience of care-free nights and early mornings spent dancing beneath the stars in fields and on beaches. Celeste draws influence from hard-core's benign side as well as the blissed out house of flotation tank lovers The Beloved and skillfully and seamlessly weaves together tumbling break beats with watery samples and mournful piano lines with dreamy vocal utterances. "Thoughts" is slower and features teased out acid squiggles, but it's the title track that is sure to be played continuously over the coming months.
