Review: They do say that music is always best when made for occasions, which obviously rang true for one of the most active figures on the Kuala Lumpur progressive scene Mr Fluff, as he presents the latest EP on his own Pixelated Waves label. 'Valentines Day' is the lead track and most floor worthy out of the two, with a thumping kick drum and throbbing bass-line it will get the speakers stacks seriously shaking. On the flip 'Timeless Pieces' goes deeper, and with a real old skool bassline and a tantalising piano lead. Two wicked tracks, off the beaten track.. Check them both out!!

Review: It's quite a turnout for the books to see Zinc delivering a release for Rinse, and he weighs in heavy from the off with 'Sprung'. Deploying a fat breakbeat reminiscent of 'Fat of the Land' era Prodigy, he rinses out a fat mid range riff against a sample intoning 'let's go' repeatedly. It's not the most original material, but Zinc makes this irrelevant, with an ability to make the masses move in ways that other producers can't. Elsewhere, 'Unlike Me' utilises lots of loud tricks and plenty of gusto, while "Unlike Me" sounds like the perfect hybrid of big room electro and UK funky, with a hollow bassline that mines grime for its sound to great effect. Finally "Recovered" utilises a similar formula, utilising an ascending melody and aggressive vocal looping to round off a bombastic EP.

Review: Yam Who?'s ISM label come through with a four track slice of disco centric Futurism, featuring the man Yam himself alongside PBR Streetgang and Ron Basejam. It's the latter who takes the lead with a remix of Alena's "Changes" that sees her sultry vocal teased by a most excellent of analogue synth leads that splurges brilliantly across the crisp mid tempo chug. Yam Who? teams up with vocalist Natasha Watts for the similarly bottom heavy bump of "I'm In Love" which has a certain warehouse appeal to it. Up next, PBR pay respect to the godfather of soul James Brown with the gritty flex of "J2thaB" with the sadly departed Mr Brown strangely sounding at times like he wants to go to Tesco. We always took him for a Waitrose man, but regardless this is probably the track you'll reach for most! Finally Brothers Young do their thing to a Trammps classic, with little more than the bassline retained. Big tip!

Review: The near unstoppable run of xxxy continues with Kerpow on Irish label All City (responsible for that massive FaltyDL release this summer), complete with fantastically adorned, pop-art referencing sleeve. It's clear that his style has matured over his prolific run of productions; "Kerpow" is arguably one xxxy's most balanced productions to date, eschewing the day-glo garage of his recent tracks, and combining a pounding breakbeat and techno stabs with warm organ chords in just the right quantities. "Down Wit U" is a juke influenced cut, combining a relentless bass slam and restless 808 rhythms while the titular vocal sample adds a hook worthy of footwork contemporary Addison Groove.

Review: There's something wonderfully fresh and breezy about this latest three-tracker from veteran German producer Robag Wruhme. The title track in particular bristles with melodic intent, as if Wruhme is desperate to free himself from the shackles of typically teutonic techno. With rolling, sun-kissed synths and bright-eyed pianos to the fore, Wruhme has delivered a slice of Balearic tech-house that has much in common with the work of Justus Kohncke or Partial Arts. "Wemmel" utilises some of the same sounds, roughing up the beats and adding ragged acid motifs for a decidedly old skool sound. Closer "Polch Dutto", meanwhile, offers a calmer, dubwise approach.

Review: When we look back at the past few years, it's impossible to pick out one tune from the Woodsman which is anything other than brilliant. from 'Advanced' and 'Monotone' to more recent 'Champagne Dream'. The latest High Contrast sleeve with his name across the top is due to a wicked new remix of last years 'Inside Me' from Tiesto favourite Bassjackers. Who sympathetically inject a little more attitude and grit than the Original, with the standout male vocal still intact.. This is big!!

Review: A couple of cute jungle cuts from The Wildlife Collective (alias of Ed Solo and Deekline) on suitably delectable imprint, Jungle Cakes. A warm, woozy vocal led narrative in lead track "I Need A Dollar" tells a tale like a modern day reggae top line. Beautiful booming bass adds solid foundations from below whilst tooting trumpets and pattering breaks shimmy along nicely above. On the flip, "Bad Bwoy" is another tribute to Jamaican sound culture, referencing Remarc's early 90s jungle interpretation "Bad Bwoys" along the way. There's a hint of Serum & Bladerunner in there, with classic sounds pared with modern production techniques and polished drums. Absolutely brilliant.

Review: Given the mystery surrounding this release - unnamed "well known London DJ/ producer" joins forces with (also uncredited) "star Bristol musician and vocalist" - it would be easy to let the music pass you by. Yet "It's You" is excellent - arguably one of the strongest Futureboogie releases to date. It eschews the label's usual styles in favour of a low-slung combination of sparse, Hot Creations-ish house rhythms, soul-aching vocals and Prince-ish 80s funk squelch. It's a great combination. Crazy P man Ron Basejam offers a deep and sunny house interpretation, whilst Bristolian housers Eats Everything and Christophe deliver a fluid fusion of disco percussion and bubblin', retro-futurist acid house.

Review: Nick Warren is one of the key seminal electronic DJ and Producers, still flying the flag worldwide. Review: One of the UK's hottest young talents and brightest international exports has been slightly quieter on the release front over the past 12 months. A big stand-out moments during that time being his collaborations with Gaereth Emery of course. Well.. It all makes sense now as his long-awaited debut album 'The Inner Me' is soon to be released, and sure to catapult his status to that of Emery. 'Mumbai Traffic', kicks things off for the album project and is typical Wallbridge, futuristic and tech edged progressive that works across many different styles and will no doubt appeal to fans of the likes of Mat Zo, and Arty. Review: Underground Sugar Caves marks a triumphant third waddle through the deepest recesses of rhythmic programming on Delusions of Grandeur for Tornado Wallace. The Australian is a man whose grasp of The Simpson's trivia is more than matched by his rise in the public's estimations since he debuted with Paddlin'. Lead track "Underground Sugar Caves" sees the erstwhile Wallace leave the sanctity of chugging disco for something altogether more thrilling - warehouse ready raw house music. The ease with which Wallace flips the script from the kick drum heavy compressed sound of the opening moments to the stabs and energising strings that dominate the track in full flow will transcend excellently in a small basement space. "Insect Overlords" is a more familiar mid tempo saunter, though there are enough production nuances to separate it from the chaff, whilst the venerable Idjut Boys turn in an excellently dubby transition of "Underground Sugar Caves" which is indelibly stamped with moodiness. Highly recommended.

Review: Occasional Leftroom types Waifs & Strays pop up on fast-rising Bristol imprint Futureboogie Recordings. While distinctly chunkier and tech-tinged than previous releases on the label, there's an old skool sassiness and late night feel to "Be Patient" that fits in with the current Futureboogie ethos. It doesn't perhaps gurn quite as impressively as Julio Bashmore's "Father Father", but its comfy combination of jangling pianos and hooky synth bass should certainly raise more than a few smiles on the dancefloor. If anything, it's the Bashmore-ish, touchy-feel calypso-house of "Feel" - all rubbery P-funk bass and synth steel drum melodies - that most impresses.

Review: Mala's Deep Medi Musik maintain their high standards in 2011 with the welcome return of VIVEK on a plump four track selection that matches his earlier release Pulse. What Eyes Down lacks in titular imagination, it more than makes up for in terms of refined dubstep preshah! Opening with "The Big Bang" Vivek further displays a penchant for simmering cinematic tension, as growling subs prowl the nether regions beneath a sparse half step riddim. In contrast "Spread Love" demonstrates Sharda's prowess with crafting intricately programmed beats that flex with a UKG swing but retain a stepper template. What really impresses is how the heavily dosed up purple vibe gradually engulfs the track. Elsewhere "Sirens" envelopes the straight up, crisp 808centric drums in an array of delayed droning effects, before slipping in a lazily skanking melody, whilst the title track is Sharda showing off his sub bass capabilites.
