Review: Hot on the heels of the Infected Frequencies release, Alexander Kowalski drops this follow-up under his DisX3 guise. The title track is a bruising affair powered by a galloping groove and grainy drums. However, it is testament to Kowalski's production prowess that he manages to lend the track a distinctive edge with the use of gloomy vocal samples. "Tomorrow" is more in keeping with the work that the German producer releases under his own name. Centred on a rolling rhythm, he uses deft filters and insistent tones to create a distinctive but lean club track. Pushmann's take on the title track sends it on a dubbed-out trajectory, while Temudo's interpretation teases out a robust, tribal sound. In contrast, Insolate's version of "Tomorrow" is a fast-paced minimal affair.

Review: The Basement Freaks have riddled our charts with all sorts of break-centric dance experiments, but this is their debut for the mighty Adapted label, home to some of the best breakbeat this side of 2010, and they've come through with a meaty LP to get your weekend off to a good start. "Freedom" opens with a mash up of blues and soul, masterfully reimagined through a breaks angle, and this is followed by a whole artillery of vast, playful, sample-heavy bangers of all shapes and sizes. It sounds as if the Freaks have really gone to town on this one, chopping and shifting at every turn, adding in little touches of quality here and there. It's an album for those who like to dream big and not feel restricted by traditional genre boundaries. Lovely stuff.

Review: According to the blurb provided by Sounds of Sumo, Tapok is a "mysterious new artist". Whoever he or she is, the revivalist two-step garage fare offered up on this debut EP is rather tasty. Opener "Freedom" is particularly potent, with sub-bothering bass and cut-up female vocal samples riding a snappy but punishing two-step rhythm. "Just Say No" is a little sweeter, with jaunty organ keys, a bouncier groove and an early Todd Edwards feel to the production. The 4/4 inclined "Summer Magic" is excellent, too, with humid strings and swirling chords providing a little sun-kissed beauty. The package also contains a superb old skool jungle rub of "Freedom" by Kingsin, and a tropical tinged bruk-up rework of "Just Say No" by the Ange Numa Crew.
