Musica E Computer
La Domenica Del Villaggio - (0:43) 76 BPM
Review: Fabrizio Mammarella and Rodion deliver a momentous release with Musica E Computer - recorded in the legendary Marche Synth Museum in Italy. The opening track "Iris" sets an exceptional tone, exploring eerie, metallic tropical landscapes, while others like "A Corrente Alternata" and "Un Segnale Di Speranza" showcase Mammerella and Rodion's unmatched partnership, crafting enigmatic, timeless earworms with driving basslines and arcane vocoders. Throughout the album, the duo seamlessly blends synthetic and organic sounds, offering a geographic coda to the Italian region's rich musical history. Musica E Computer culminates in "Una Nuova Era", a transcendent homage to the recording synth drenched studio the album was recorded in which makes for some Italorama to the fullest!

Butter Notes
Regrets Memories And Dreams - (7:57) 79 BPM
Review: Trip-hop/downtempo veterans The Deadbeats return with what by our reckoning is their sixth album, and their fifth on their own Space Hopper label. 'Butter Notes' opens with the Massive Attack-esque 'I Don't Believe' - all luxuriant strings and looping rap vocal snips - then moves on through six more slices of prime mid-paced chillage, blending influences from Balearica, broken beat, lo-fi hip-hop and funk before concluding with the suitably epic and expansive 'Am I Eternal'. If you've enjoyed any of their previous albums you're highly likely to enjoy this one as well, with the standout for this reviewer being 'Dark Forest', which adds some dubby flourishes to what it otherwise a fairly standardised blueprint. Still, if ain't broke, etc...

Faith / San Diago (Remixes By Prins Thomas/Medlar/Dele Sosimi/Rahaan)
San Diago (Rahaan remix) - (6:41) 57 BPM
Review: Barcelona-based Arnau Obiols has chalked up releases on such respected labels as Local Talk, Ibadan and Compost, and now returns to the latter in the company of Zurich's KAYYAK. Together they serve up two tracks that draw heavily on 70s Afro-funk for inspiration, with 'Faith' coming with a slightly mellower remix courtesy of Medlar & Dele Sosimi while 'San Diago' gets two rerubs, with Rahaan giving the track a slightly jazzier, more leftfield makeover while Prins Thomas's Diskomix transforms it into a slab of percussive, slo-mo disco. Any/all should go down well on floors where Afro-oriented beats are in demand.

The Imposter EP
Trippin' - (4:54) 58 BPM
Played by: Bladerunner
Review: Man like Kublai returns to Total Science's label with some of his darkest, dankest, dirtiest designs to date. 'Big Talk' takes the lead with a big old b2b2b in the studio as Kubbie, TS and Minor Forms all get mucky in the action. Elsewhere 'The Imposter' goes for a classic wormy bassline tension, 'Trippin' is pure filth laced over scattershot drums (with more filth thrown in for good measure) while 'Sullied' closes the EP on a pranged out drone tone. Exceptional drum & bass craft here.

Fleuron Drift
Fleuron Drift (Kassian remix) - (6:14) 68 BPM
Review: Sasha's latest single Fleuron Drift marks yet another milestone in the electronic maestro's illustrious career. Collaborating with Theo Kottis and Kassian for remixes on his own label (Last Night On Earth ), Sasha continues to redefine the boundaries of sonic intrepidation. The original track is a deeper journey, meticulously crafted with evolving synth layers and hypnotic drum patterns that culminate in a euphoric breakdown. Theo Kottis injects his remix with dynamic energy, featuring tech-leaning drums and glitchy textures for peak dance floor moments. Kassian's rendition then offers a quicker pace, blending funk-infused drums with soaring synth tension, promising to transport listeners yet more electronic bliss fit for a final night on this world. Drift away.

I Don't Need - (5:16) 59 BPM
Bleak - (4:34) 58 BPM
Review: Melinki and Shodan on Rebel Music? Now this is a serious meeting of the minds! Proper adult tackle, too, as you'd expect. 'Revenant' is all about the boa constrictor like bassline slugging around the gaff, prone to crush at any minute, while 'I Don't Need' takes us more of a rampant junglised spree, all turbo breaks and a gritty sense of urgency. Finally we hit the sonic skids with 'Bleak'. Proper grumbly, grizzly moody drum & bass for late night basements. High grade.

Price Of Freedom - (8:41) 70 BPM

Welcome To The Dark Net - (8:10) 68 BPM
Review: Noor apparently means 'light' in both Hebrew and Arabic, so it's a fitting name for a project that sees Israeli psy-trance veteran Ofer Dikovsky, AKA Oforia, blending a wide range of Middle Eastern musical influences with an equally wide range of western, electronic flavours. 'Can You Ride A Camel?' is his second long-player released under the Noor banner and really is an incredibly diverse affair, ranging over the course of its 1h 47m from the downtempo, jazzy and Balearic-leaning to pumping trance, techno and breaks... sometimes within the course of a single track! Not gonna pick any standouts here, because this is a truly unique-sounding album that really deserves to be heard in its entirety.

Conrad Subs & Speaker Louis - "Shots Fired" - (4:36) 58 BPM
Played by: MR ALF-E
Review: Next up from the ever-ready Liondub International, a throwback filled to the brim with lethal flavours as Conrad Subs touches down to deliver four tracks of pure dancefloor fire. We open up with the unpredictable synthetic twitches and reesey rumbles of 'Rave Report', setting the tone of the project nicely before 'Dough' gives us a more minimal fusion of growling bass notes and sharpened drum designs. Next, 'Big Chungus' opens up the roof for an even harder hitting sub-line, upping the ante even further as we move forward, with Speaker Louis providing some additional work on the well thought out rhythmic arrangements of 'Shots Fired'. Another tidy collection from the Liondub dynasty.

Review: Daydream Utopia emerges as a deep journey into atmospheric downtempo & electronica, designed for immersive listening experiences if only brief! Evoking a sense of inner and outer space exploration, the album's ethereal soundscapes offer a soundtrack for introspection and dreaming realities by blending warm analog tones with futuristic nostalgia. Chris Coco invites listeners to ponder existential questions while navigating their own thoughts, offering a place for balance, clarity and purpose should you get it. From the enigmatic "Synesthesia" to the introspective "Tokyo Ame," each composition sparks curiosity, whether it's decoding hidden meanings or exploring the depths of human connection. For lovers of ambient synth!

Spiral Dance
Amby Stan - (2:54) 76 BPM
Review: Ed Upton has long been one of British dance music's most prolific producers, with his latest album on Hypercolour - the typically vibrant Spiral Dance - marking his 24th full-length excursion as DMX Krew since 1996. Its' 13 tracks are typically vivid, inventive and entertaining, with the Bedford-born producer rushing between intergalactic electro ('Always Hats'), sub-heavy UK techno futurism (the bleep-influenced 'Bathtime Bobby'), house-tempo dancefloor IDM ('Spiral Dance'), Spacetime Continuum style ambient techno (the chill-out room friendly 'Back To '92'), synth-laden analogue cheeriness ('Is This Normal'), heady beat-free soundscapes ('Hammer Slowly Forming'), early Autechre style electronica ('Ankle Grinder') and sweaty acid house ('FM Assembly').

Catching Flies & Imaginary Friend - "The Last Phone Call" - (2:23) 79 BPM Hot
Review: Catching Flies, the moniker of George King, delivers his most emotional and cohesive project yet with this album, Tides. Collaborating closely with string arranger Thomas Lea, known for his work with Adele, Bonobo, and Rhye, Catching Flies explores the theme of 'ebbs and flows', reflecting on personal and global experiences over the past few years. The album beautifully captures the cyclical nature of life, anchored by a singular sense of purpose and intricate musicality. From the melodic mesh of harp samples and soaring strings in the lead single "Halo" to the deeply textured and soulful exploration of tracks like "Spring" and "The Last Phone Call" - Catching Flies blends live instrumentation with warm electronic beats.

Murder Tune - (4:27) 58 BPM
Review: Usually known for more jumpier takes on D&B - especially with his 2Ton project - Corrupted Mind follows up the Jungle Jam single with a full EP of the same gully, uncompromised and blistering breakbeat jungle style. Each cut gnarlier than the last, Nuusic's signature fizzy energy has been reimagined in an exciting way as CM goes in on all the little details: 'Rinse Out' comes with serious tension, 'Murder Tune' is all about the militant percussion while 'War Cry' is just pure bassline aggression. Review: Composed between 2020 and 2021, these three pieces, collectively known as "Triptych" have been patiently waiting to be savoured by music aficionados worldwide. Each track offers a distinct sonic journey, with the title track serving as a musical odyssey in itself, seamlessly flowing through interconnected sections to evoke varied atmospheres over its 13-minute duration. "Touch Air" mesmerises with its rhythmic allure, a trance-like session crafted for spiritual elevation, while "Pythagoras in Japan" transports listeners to the Far East with its ambient textures and spoken-word poetry, gliding further into infinity drones and deep, melodic and humming, synth bliss.

In its Original form, 'Feet Don't Fail Me Now' sits somewhere on the cusp of contemporary soul/funk, soulful house and pop, while Sean McCabe's remix pushes the track firmly through the door marked 'soulful house'. Heavy rotation at the upcoming Southport Weekender guaranteed.

Cop Outside - (4:47) 75 BPM
Review: Monty Luke's Nightdubbing project on Rekids was designed to showcase the Black Catalogue boss's deep love of dub-infused house and techno. This 13-track album combines previously unheard cuts with nine tracks previously showcased across a pair of EPs of the same name. It's a fantastic set all told, with highlights including the smacked-out electro-dub headiness of opener '40 Acres and a Terrabyte', the extra-percussive deep dub-house hypnotism of 'Bob Molly', the after-hours friendly minimalism of 'Star Storms', the Detroit-goes-dub techno pulse of 'New World/Old Future', the classic dub techno warmth of 'Dark Paradise', and the dub-wise deep house dreaminess of 'Avantgarde Dancehall'. Throw in a handful of tidy ambient and digital dub tracks, and you have a genuinely superb long-player.

Keep On Searching For Love
Keep On Searching For Love - (6:08) 61 BPM
Review: An exceptional EP showcasing rare South London British jazz funk, originally unveiled in the UK in 1984 by Tony Williams, a Jamaican-born producer renowned for his influential work on Funk Masters' jazz-funk classic, 'Love Money'. Resurfacing once more, 'Keep On Searching For Love' epitomizes the distinctive dub disco sound of 80s London, meticulously crafted with every element tailored to captivate disco enthusiasts. Featuring gated snares and captivating vocal performances by Linda Taylor, this track radiates with the brilliance of a supernova. 'Eastern Lady' presents an instrumental journey adorned with hypnotic basslines, drum machines, synths, and vibrant horn lines. Both tracks have been meticulously remastered from tape and are now elegantly repackaged for your listening pleasure. Keep the groove going!

AC MC, Shaya & Skuff - "Drop The Knife" - (6:02) 57 BPM
Review: Northern banger brigade GTA are marking a big old decade in the game with this walloping collection of beats across the spectrum. Delivered in 10s over five different themes from classics to remixes to floor-scorchers, the end result is an excitingly varied and feisty 50-strong spread of drum & bass perspectives where vibes range from Conrad Subs' utterly gully jungle vibes on his remix of Sl8r's 'Facking Jungle M8' to the thundering dancefloor wallops of Cliques' remix of the label bosses 'Pico De Gallo'. No strong is left unturned throughout the collection as we're just as like to be refreshed by liquid (Pyxis & Maykor's 'Guardian Angel') as we are flattened by venomous, laser-kissed neuro blasts (ICU's remix of 'Rip The Roof Off') Crash bang wallop what an album.

Sebb Junior, Muhsinah & Kaidi Tatham - "Special" (Kaidi Tatham remix) - (4:40) 59 BPM
Review: Oli Lazarus's Reel People Music drop the first volume in a new compilation series that will see the keys to the label's vaults handed over to a number of different remixers, with the intention of breathing new live into tracks that in some cases are nearly 20 years old. The man in the hot seat for this first installment is broken beat originator and Bugz co-founder Kaidi Tatham, who takes on tracks from/featuring the likes of Mica Paris, Atjazz, Sean Escoffery,Sebb Junior, Daz-I-Kue and of course Reel People themselves. Given the source material, it's no surprise that "smooth and soulful" is the mood du jour, generally: the beats never get TOO broken and self-indulgent jazzbo flourishes are kept to a minimum. File under 'baby-making music'.

Review: Long live team Alpha Pup, an excellently organised project that have moved onto the third edition of their epic '20/20' compilation series, exploring the most lethal reaches of underground bass music. Featuring hard hitting originals from the likes of Ivy Lab, Dismantle, Rocks FOE, Bakey and more, it's clear that the team have gone all out on this collection, with sounds ranging as wide as the hardcore inspired mysticism of 'Naananaana' from Rohaan, to the industrial techno-flavours of Ila Brugal's 'Cynical'. The whole project packs a punch, but our highlights would have to include both the intense metallic madness of Deft's 'OKURTHEEXPERT', alongside Manni Dee's monstrous 'Wet Slide' creation. Top work all around!

Mucho Stupido - (5:15) 64 BPM
Break Your Face - (5:37) 69 BPM
Ending Chapters - (5:36) 63 BPM
Review: By now we know that Oskar Offermann is a bit of a Frankfurter albeit Robert Johnson legend. His next offering for the label keeps the guy's sense of humour in check with Pleasures Of Stupidity - that he takes off with via a cheeky dose of acid in "Mucho Stupido" - classic. Slamming down some harder drums and a darker, gothic and post punk vibe in "Break Your Face", the Offermann turns up the heat in "Ending Chapters" - bringing out the deepness most in this track (that you can still somehow hear dwelling in the others). It's easy to imagine all of these numbers going down perfectly on a smokey dancefloor as the sunrises and the night ends.

Pyro
REM - (2:39) 58 BPM
Review: Buckle up, because Particle is taking us on one wild ride with his latest album "Pyro" on Critical Music. This 10-track juggernaut is a full-throttle excursion through the gnarliest terrain of jungle and drum & bass. Right from the jump on the opening cut, Particle flexes his funky bassline muscles to get things properly greased up. But don't get too comfortable - by the closing VIP remix he's dropped the hammer and has the whole thing redlining in the most deliriously unhinged way. This is an artist operating at the peak of his powers, seamlessly blending classic jungle/D&B fundamentals with meticulously futuristic production chops. There's something for the old-school heads and fresh recruits alike on this album. Longtime jungalists will get misty-eyed over the cavernous subs and proving garage-bred breaks of tracks like "Fooling." But Particle also caters to the new-age barneys on tunes such as "Assassin" and "Needles" complete with enough manic robotic contortions to have you rapidly evacuating your flesh vessel. Not one to rest on his laurels, Particle keeps things utterly weird too. "REM" is a deliciously unhinged descent into stuttering jungle psychedelia. And his link-up with Inja on "The Message" injects a taut, nerve-shredding atmospherics that'll have you sweating through three layers of merino wool. Don't sleep on this one, ravers.

Review: Mysticism's Dubplate series has got a couple of great drops lined up at the moment and this is one of them, from German digidub pioneers TVS aka Trance Vision Steppers. This was a project that never made it out of the studio but still cooked up some brilliant sounds, which in the case of this collection come from their earlier period between 1995 and 1999. Fans of Adrian Sherwood, Dennis Bovell and Mad Professor will be head over heels of these dub delights - they are deep and atmospheric with lush ambient pads, downtempo vocals and stoner synths next to more twisted rhythms.

Ranging from the twisted bass bubbles and trippy warped sounds of Warhead's 'Tread Carefully' to the interplanetary bleep drama and sweet bubbling subs of Kumo's 'Trick Shot', Agro is explicitly telling us how versatile and timeless his label has always been. The Secret Soul Society - "Stay" (original mix) - (3:24) 77 BPM
Review: Volume 7 in the series but for once we can't really say "you should know what to expect by now" because what this compilation really goes to show is just what an eclectic and diverse camp the long-running Manchester label has become, with tracks on 'Paper Cuts #7' ranging from the near-ambient Balearica of Aniso Tropics' opener 'Apricot Memorex' to the self-explanatory synth-y stylings of La Guardia de la Luz's 'Trance Aleman de los 90s' via the uptempo strut of Jahn Solo's 'Disco'. So all we can really do is point you in the direction of some standout cuts, which for this reviewer would include D.S.D's luscious 'Just Can't Stop' and Benny Pitcher's 'Transatlantic Motion', which is like a little musical nod to the days when Paper comps were called 'Splinter'.

Luxury - "Twirl" - (4:22) 61 BPM
Review: Blank Mind Recordings, based in London, has tapped into the significance of a particular strand of jungle and breakbeat hardcore music prevalent during the period of 1991-1994. Their latest compilation showcases eight tracks characterized by dense atmospheric breaks, featuring artists such as DJ Mayhem, Luxury, and Skanna from that era. The standout track, 'Inesse' by Mayhem, serves as the focal point around which the compilation is curated. Against the backdrop of a tumultuous political climate, notably marked by the passage of the stringent anti-rave Criminal Justice Act in 1994, this record and its pulsating compositions take on a renewed significance, reframed within a context of resistance and social justice.

Review: Four typically solid contemporary funk jams here from Sound Exhibitions regular Funk Windows, coming just two weeks after his/her/their last release, the 'Africa Funk' EP. This time out, the Afro stylings are put on a back burner; instead you get the slow-building title cut (which would make a fine set-opener), 'Roller Night' which has a slightly more wonked-out/off-kilter feel, and then 'Bisca' and 'Low Down', both of which up the jazz ante somewhat, the former rocking some fine sax and a cut-up, chipmunk-y vocal while the latter has a similar MO but busts out the flutes. The EP as a whole is a headnodder's delight.

Madrugada EP
Madrugada - (5:12) 59 BPM
Funky Fever - (5:40) 58 BPM
Review: Throughout their decade-long career, Alma Negra has combined their love of disco and deep house with percussion, instrumentation and ideas excavated from African, Caribbean and tropical musical cultures. On this EP, they largely ditch the latter inspirations, instead delivering full-throttle revivalist disco sounds where the Basel-based band's organic instrumentation and vocals combine with colourful synth sounds and heady horns. The headline attraction is undoubtedly 'Madrugada', a warming and thickset, subtly deep house-influenced take on the turn-of-the-80s NYC downtown disco-not-disco sound. It comes backed with two revisions - an extra-percussive, dubbed-out Yuksek tweak and the band's own dub disco-goes-deep house 'Dub Mix' - and the riotous, party-starting brilliance of 'Funky Fever'.

Survival EP
Gold Dubs & Kalum - "Survival" (feat Rider Shafique - original mix) - (4:24) 58 BPM
Review: Fresh off the presses of Jungle Cakes Records comes the "Survival" EP, a four-track journey guided by the skilled hand of Gold Dubs. No stranger to production, Gold Dubs leverages his years of experience and diverse influences - from bassline to DnB - to craft a dynamic and electrifying listen. The EP kicks off with the aptly titled "Survival," a collaboration with Kalum featuring the distinctive lyricism of Rider Shafique. This track hits hard, both sonically and thematically, with pulsating basslines, warped sub frequencies, and expertly layered FX. Next up is "Infinity" a nostalgic trip down memory lane with a distinctly 90s vibe. Think sharp sub bass, heavy percussion, and vocal samples and synths that evoke a bygone era. Offering a stark contrast, "Bliss" lives up to its name. Soaring, spacey risers and futuristic basslines create a sense of weightlessness, perfectly complemented by the mesmerizing vocal effects. The EP closes with "Too Late," a showcase of Gold Dubs' mastery of the bassline genre. Warped subs, pulsating basslines, and tastefully sparse synths combine with captivating vocal samples to create an infectious groove. This is a track that will leave you hitting repeat and craving more.

Tomorrow Doesn't Exist
Black Owl On My Shoulder - (6:06) 57 BPM
Review: Best known for his techno maneouvres, Reeko has been carving a fine line in deep pulsating tribal 170 music on Samaurai. First came 'Confront the Serpent' in summer 2023. Now comes another exceptional four-piece; the brilliantly titled 'Tomorrow Doesn't Exist'. An ode to living in the moment, once again Reeko arrests our senses and catapults them deep into the D&B cosmos in a number of ways... Pensive halftime percussive hypnosis experiences come in the form of the gradual crescendo of the title track and the throbbing finale 'Above The Ground'. Looking for something a little more chest-rattling? Head for the relentless tribal rolls of 'Black Owl On My Shoulder' and 'Rooted. Grab this now because tomorrow never comes...

Sinseerly Yours
Can't Call Me Baby - (4:54) 73 BPM
Review: "Sinseerly Yours," the debut LP from Los Angeles outfit Thee Sinseers, is a love letter to classic soul and R&B, delivered with a fresh, modern twist. Released on the ever-reliable Colemine label, the album is a testament to the band's tight musicianship and infectious energy. The album's strength lies in its ability to seamlessly blend influences. Hints of 60s girl groups and British Invasion pop dance alongside shimmering soul melodies, all delivered with a distinctly modern swagger. Tracks like "Can't Do That To Her" showcase the band's knack for crafting irresistibly catchy hooks, while deeper cuts like "Hold On" explore the emotional nuances of the genre. Not to forget its vocal interplay. Lead singer Joey Quinones delivers soulful vocals with a smooth charm, while the backing harmonies from Adriana Flores and the rest of the band add a layer of richness and depth. This tight vocal interplay is particularly evident on standout tracks like "Seems Like" and "For You." Colemine Records has a well-deserved reputation for unearthing hidden gems, and "Sinseerly Yours" is no exception.

Review: Manchester-based Loz Goddard returns to the spotlight in celebration of Dirt Crew Recordings 20th anniversary (Dirt Crew Recordings - 20 years? No way!). It marks a comeback for the producer after a notable debut collaboration with Harry Wolfman in 2016. Known for his unique blend of electronica, deep soundscapes and lush and organic deep house, Goddard has graced labels like Oath, Razor N Tape and Church on his musical journey, presenting here for DT a captivating mini-album featuring beautifully crafted ambient and electronica pieces alongside three energetic tracks. Inspired by a night at the White Hotel in Salford watching Skee Mask, Goddard goes deep on six compositions, offering listeners a journey through a new age sound of house to prick the ears of Legowelt fans for sure. Big ups Loz!
