Review: As debut EPs go, this one from London duo Shift Work is really rather impressive. Label Optimo Music describes it as "machine music for hypno dance floors and home listening tranceouts". It's rather apt. The EP features four fuly-fledged tracks - rip-snorting collisions of hard-edged synthesizer rhythms, acid-tinged beats and clanking drum machine grooves - and four short interludes, which cleverly showcase the duo's experimental credentials. Amongst the floor-friendly tracks you'll find an intense, Moroder-goes-industrial edit of "Patience" from label honcho JD Twitch, and "[Less] Merchandise", a woozy concoction that sounds like Factory Floor after a fistful of downers.

Review: Fresh out of Johannesburg come Hypomaniacs. An edgy boy/girl duo with a serious penchant for the aggressive, hard-as-lorries side of the dance, their vocal-led sound ruthlessly melts electro, trance, punk and dubstep with uncompromising glee. Throughout the EP Stacey's voice is a dominant force in the mix, driving the message home as their beats sparkle and stab with expert production precision. Eight tracks are on offer, in total - four of their own, four remixes. Our highlight is the almost Fischerspooner-meets-Skunk Anansie-meets-Knife Party vibes of "There's No Way Back". Get your wiggle on. Get your mosh on. This superbly varied EP suits all sorts.

Review: Not to be confused with the Japanese fashion brand, Italian DJ/Producer Takeshy Kurosawa teams up with fellow countryman Peruz, for a super slick progressive ride complete with quirky Reggae breakdown, and some very tasty remixes. Gio Di Leva & Nello Simioli come up trumps with a simplistic rolling vibe that you won't be able to stay still too. If vocals aren't your bag, there are much needed instrumentals for each mix, all of which have more than enough going on to keep the interest and get the party rocking.

Review: Thoroughly on the dark side of twisted techno, Da Goblinn is back with this new album that encompasses the full spectrum of spooked house. The slinky, minimal ghetto-funk of "Ee-Walk Funk" is a good entry point to Goblinn's world, whilst the usage of detuned, ring-modulated vocals work well on the metal-electro of "All The Kings & Queens" or "Da Boom Boom". As stunning as it is febrile and doom-laden, this is a brilliantly uncompromising listen.

Review: Belgian beatmachine The Subs are getting ready for their album Decontrol with this new single - backed with a raft of great mixes. Sporting an excellent warped-chorus vocal and lots of tech-funk backing, the original is both fun and hard-hitting and could slip into any number of sets. Sweden's Style Of Eye is no novice at adding some demented electro weirdness on his remixes, and once again comes good with a brilliantly twisted take on the original, while Tai slows thing down a little, taking the acid route. Same goes for Ado's two versions: the much-feted remixer of Herve, Tom Starr and Kissy goes truly berserk on a 303 tip with two excellent, already much-talked about remixes that definitely get the nod from us.

Review: An extensive release on Marc Reason's self-titled label from Run & Way, with a plethora of mixes of R&W's electro-smasher "Send Me An Angel". While the original might be a bit too saccharine-sweet for most tastes, Alex Hilton gets it just right to create a memorable electro-tech stomper that veers between minimal Dutch bleepiness and huge white-noise builds. Also worth checking out further funky-club mixes from Miami Inc and Marc Reason himself.

Review: Over the past few years Australian songstress Emma Hewitt has steadily and credibly worked her way from features on producers records to becoming a name in her own right. Her lyrical talents are as strong and unique as her tone and delivery and here we have a classy array of new remixes for a track lifted from her 'Burn The Sky Down' album. Mikka thrashes out a heavily electro influence party starter, with Dabruck & Klein following suit. Both will do the damage however for us its fellow countryman TyDi who produces something more sympathetic to the Original.

Review: Previously spotted laying down beats for the Foreign Beggars, Vato's official hook-up with Lethal B and Donaeo is a match made in electro-grime heaven. While Vato's vibrant riffage still packs a large punch, there's heaps of space for Lethal's aggression and Donaeo's soulful croons. Remix-wise we're spoilt for choice. Most notably Deekline's exclusive-to-Juno booty bass romp. Elsewhere we find Andi Durrant dusting his piano off, Jaxxon preaching in the church of synths, Max NRG getting sprightly on a drumstep riddim, Substantial Error serving up a slo-mo stomp and Skitzofrenix cooking up the dreamiest trap you ever did hear.

Review: New from the Young NRG label, this third compilation of breaks/disco/funk bangers makes for a pleasantly varied listen - whether it be the klezmer-meets-hip hop fusion of Bashboom vs Radiozastava's "Anastasia", the nu-funk breaks of Damage Breaks' "Android" or HB's mix of Stex's Hamilton Bohannon-sampling "Let's Start The Funk". On less of a funky tip, Random Scarves' "Primordial Soup" keeps things deep and astral thanks to some glowing textures mixed with thick bass beats.

Review: A very interesting release here. Sweet Valley is a side project by Nathan Williams, key member of San Diego beach punk band Wavves. At points it's very J Dilla with its crude but captivating sample mastery ("Malibu Games"), at other times it's more organic and almost folklike with an Animal Collective charm ("Total Carnage") and at others it's just outright bizarre, blending an almost dubstep mentality with circus fan fares and East coast 808s ("Dunk Dreams 95"). An ear-melting collection right from the leftside.

Review: OMG this is good fun! That's what you'll be saying once you've checked out this rather fun weave of styles and flavours. In case you're not up to speed, Metz N Trix first emerged back in the old UKG days and made quite the name for themselves thanks to their unique incorporation of bhangra. Lord knows where they've been, but they're back with this epic trance-tinged roof-raiser. Complete with tongue-in-cheek Heartless Crew style lyrics, this comes with all manner of remixes from D&B including some great rubs from UKG legends Sunship.

Review: Peaktime grime-meets-electro with plenty of crossover potential, Bayku waxes lyrical about intoxicating drink combos and partying like glamorous rockstars while the Polluted Mindz get heavy with a bashy beat and nagging topline hook. If it's a little too in-your-face, look no further than Chuckie's series of rubs and dubs; adding some cool filtered chords and more of a funky house feel, he's paved a smoother ride without taking any of the edge and energy from original. Those with a penchant for two-step will be keen to hear Mike Delinquent's remix. Old school meets new school in a rather delightful way; between him, Chuckie and the original, this package caters for many, many tastes.

Review: Who hasn't got misty-eyed memories of spending hours engrossed in the pure, pixelated ultra violence of Tekken? Certainly lots of the top dance producers do, because they've all been drafted in to re-work music from the game's latest instalment. Italian duo Crookers put "F.F.Y.R" in a big headlock before bouncing it start-stop style all over the shop to pumpin' effect. Ed Banger chief Busy P delivers a '1999 remix' of "Tekken Piano intro", dropkicking it in an ever so funky French touch way. Logistics fire a round of super fast D&B karate kicks at "Night Falls (ending). A stand out track though, is the retro house piledriver remix of "Hall Of Judgement" by Waze & Odyssey - a big TKO!

Review: Having previously appeared on two Permanent Vacation compilations and a sneaky Mad Decent remix giveaway, this Munich electro-pop duo have already generated an alluring profile. Here we hit their first full release and it's almost album length in all its generous glory. Coming on strong like a heady mix of Hot Chip, Spektrum and Blondie, there's very little not to like about their electronically charged rock. Highlights include the sprightly day-glow groove of "Tetris For Lovers" and the psychedelic, playful "Laser Symphony". Get charged up.

Review: This will either make you feel old or nonplussed but the original "Magic Carpet Ride" is now over 17 years old. With its distinctive vocal hook and spirited Latino horn lament, it still sounds unlike anything else to this day. But for added measure, Southern Fried have ensured it's kept up to date with a whole barrage of remixes that span from a deep-grooved percussive tribal workout (Marcus Knight remix) to, amazingly, a traditional dub version (Sona Vabos remix). Other highlights include 2 Guys From Venice, who take influence from Snoop's "Drop It Like It's Hot", and Gunrose who've opted for an all-out acid freak session.

Review: Parisian electro experimentalists Scratch Massive have put together this rather attractive live album and it's quite the treat. Engaging from the off, there's a distinct church-like feel to each well-tempered slice of cosmic pie. With faint whoops and hollers buried deep in the mix, the name Communion definitely rings true. The selection comprises the best moments from albums Enemy & Lovers and Nuit De Rave with beautiful, awe-inspiring tracks such as the Kraftwerk flavoured "Golden Dreams" and the deeper, darker, Trentemoller techno style "Waiting For A Sign" serving as major highlight points.

Review: Serious monkey business abounds on this hefty remix package. A follow up to Italian DGTLMonkey's debut album, this remix package highlights the strengths of the original while taking them to a whole new multi-genre dimension. Kicking off the star-shooting electro romp "Are U Ready?" we're then pushed deep into a sea of techno textures. Review: Jacksonville label Kick It Recordings have amassed a respectable rave repertoire in the last few years, dropping sprightly breakbeat bumper-bangers and diesel-powered electro romper-stompers at every given opportunity. This 'best of' collection is a great reminder of the carnage they've caused over the last 12 months. Highlights come from the cathedral-like emo synth riff on Farace's "Push The Beat", the warped-chugs of tribal hypnotism on Marcus Gauntlett's "Miami" and the viciousness of Direct Input's acid-caked "Psy Bot". Kick it live up to their name in every way!

Review: Good time guys Adan and Ilse have spread their macho message over a bonus-sized EP and it's a rich tapestry. Largely retro-gazing to the exciting emergence of electro pop in the early 80s, but with more contemporary production values, it's a deep dive into an endless trippy kitsch cosmos. With layered loopy vocals and nagging, bum-shaking analogue synth hooks it's both alluring and exciting thanks to its light-hearted delivery. With remixes from David Carretta (churchy vocals), Peter Rainman (Depeche Mode flex) Apparatus Acid (naughty techno) and Club Armour (think early Black Strobe), this really is quite the package.

Review: Has anyone ever made a comment about College giving us a 'schooling' in electro? If not, why not? In fact this is such grade-A melodious material that technically he's giving us a 'university-ing in electro' but that doesn't really flow quite as well. Anyhow, if you know College's material you'll already be on top of this. And if you don't then we suggest you sample the shivering, atmospheric delights of "Frontiere" or the Vangelis-like drama of "Piege" and you'll understand why College needs your attention. While most electro bandits are still pressing the bass buttons, this French artist is reminding us of the more subtle, delicate heritage of the genre. Back to class!

Review: Montreal DJ and electro producer Mini has already made a name for herself supporting Tiga, Boys Noize, Ellen Allien and Zombie Nation among many others. With a host of tunes already under her belt, Space Factory have lined up a gaggle of producers to take her latest tune "Walking" into remix wonderland. French team Komenklatur give "Walking" an eerie quality, thanks to some chiming bell-like samples and some long drawn-out drones. Mijkfunk switch things up by substituting 4/4 beats with a shuffling roll and plenty of loud snares instead. Montreal brethren My Favourite Robot add a warm glow to their mix, while on a more coldwave tip, Jauzas The Shining packs his mix with low frequency LFO gurgles and ice-cold beat. Big props to Franco Bianco who has the bravery to slightly steer his mix away from the floor - using a simple half-step kick to keep time and building a gorgeously subtle backing around it, it's a very pleasing end to a very classy set of remixes.

Review: Florian Senfter aka Zombie Nation and Tiga's ZZT project gets the remix treatment with a diverse set of results. At the raucous, bleepy house end of the spectrum are the versions by Clouds and Sound of Stereo, with the latter's tweaky remix sounding restrained compared to the atonal madness of the former's reshape. It's not all noisy exuberance though; Gesaffelstein's remix seeks to plumb to Drexciyan depths with a bassline that sounds like it was inspired by the Detroit legends and the versions from Crowdpleaser and Plein Soleil do a fine approximation of raw, analogue house. However, it's Julio Bashmore who steals the plaudits here with a soaring bassline fused with intelligent techno style melodies for an unforgettably sublime outcome.

Taking in almost skwee-like wonkiness on the perfectly-titled "VHS Distress", Egyptian Lover-styled futurism on "Watch Betsy Boogie" and Oizo-like hyper-edits on "Craft Work", the Duke presents an un-cliched and pleasantly varied set of '80s reinterpretations.

Enzo Darren & Chris Vegas add a touch of bashment rhythm and old-school organs, while Loic Penillo & Matthias Ka lead with dirty waves of synth bass that sit nicely underneath sprightly-strummed guitars. Get stuck in and discover some of the many other floor-orientated reworkings of this Brazilian anthem.

The Lone-esque tech-jumble of "Adrift At Sea", the icy and minimal "Lovebirds" and the deep, beatless Animal Collective-recalling "Mist Over The Lake" all stand out, but there's truly unique production and wide-eyed arrangements at every turn on this impressive release.

Review: DSCi4 present the sixth release in their Spy Technologies sampler series, featuring the talents of Mindscape and Mr Foul. Mindscape's "Flashback" on the A-Side delivers some meaty old-skool action, with some satisfying low end going hand in hand with light melodic touches and cowbell percussion, while Mr Foul's "Land Of Look Behind" is a more sinister number, filled with terrifying ambience and a deep bass growl. Highly recommended.

Review: Chelonis is very much the 'artiste'... A poet, a producer, a party starter, you never know what to expect from him, other than it being unique and delivered in his own style. The Prison Buffet takes off where 2009's Chatterton left us; whirling and wheezing in puddle of sleazy electro and soul. If anything, this bulges with even more surprise and panache than the previous as we shake and sass from vibe to vibe to vibe; the Drums Of Death style declarations on "23$ Life", the sombre Prince-like sobriety of "Car Crash In Reverse", the demented late night techno of "The Irritant (Brain Damage Club", the list goes on. Wonderfully unpredictable...

Review: Grinning like a cat... There's some deep deep funk under Cheshire's snapback. Long-standing Aussie glitch/bass contributor, here 13 of his cuts get the remix treatment from many of his party peers and low end comrades. Highlights include the sheet-metal bass and slappy twangs of Funkanomics' take on "My Style", Squelch's sense of swaggering gravitas on Cheshire's still-awesome bird-choker "Robins Rocket" and DJ Wood's honey-coated skank dynamic to "Crawling". Each one a quintessential example of remix perfection, this demands your attention.

Review: Based in Barcelona, Tracy Recordings is helmed by the fashionable trio of Kosmos, Ginebra and Funkmasta. In a short space of time, the label's nasty bass heavy sound has won the affection of the likes of Sinden, Drop The Lime, Top Billin, L-Vis 1990 and Bobmo. This album compiles the best remixes featured on the label so far. Remix highlights include a rough and ready one from Lol Boys, a totally '90s rave one by Broke One, a nasty baile one from Hostage, on sci-fi RnB one from Jimmy Edgar and a glacial Eurotrance one by Seapoint.

Each cut sparkles with its maker's idiosyncrasies; Krazy Baldhead lays down his most textured cosmic melodies, Busy P gets sleazy and old school Chicago with Thunderbird Gerard, Justice give their star-gazing air-guitar basher a truly majestic rework and Oizo gets his slo-mo hammer on with some gorgeous jacking de-pitched synth stabs. There's loads more to chew on here, and not a dull moment throughout. Here's to another decade.

The entire project settles sharply within the dubstep / electro divide, be it the tearout bass tones of 'Replica' or the powerfully punchy four four drum arrangements and demonic choirs of 'Death'. Other highlights from this mammoth selection include the speaker shaking sound designs and crunchy 4x4 patterns of 'Beast' and the heavy metal infused arrangement of 'Madness'. All hail electronica!

Review: Eight years have passed since Agents of Time released their debut album, so this belated sequel - for the mighty Kompakt, no less - is well overdue. The Italian duo's sound has evolved significantly over the last decade, moving from deep, progressive-influenced style to something much more widescreen, epic and smothered in sci-fi sounds. Universo, then, is a grand and inspiring affair, with the pair flitting between rubbery, tech-tinged two-step pop ('Fallin'), throbbing, Italo-influenced synth-pop ('Interstellar Cowboy', 'Liquid Fantasy'), nu-disco/tech-house fusion ('Pulses'), trancey electro-pop ('Poison'), garage-disco ('Vocal Ghost'), and string-laden dancefloor journeys ('Dream Vision (Orchestra Version)').

On display here are tracks by JoJo in "Eclipse" with its euphoric progressive house and trance style, to Madd Rod's '80s inspired drive time "Jumping Jacks". Furthermore there's some electro B-boy bangers in Computer Madness' "Travelling Back To The Planet Rock" - NYC in the house - which falls alongside Hammer's disco-inspired "Red Alert". Review: "100 years ago I had a dream: release music I love, with pro graphics, without going bankrupt". Trust Tiga to give a great soundbite for his label's four-part retrospective, part two of which drops this week. Covering 2005-2008, some stone cold electro and techno classics reside herein: Tomas Barfod's criminally underrated wonky-tech beauty "Saturdaya" and early tunes from Boys Noize (the untypically subdued "Haldern"), Proxy, Dim and Duke Dumont's Debbie Deb-sampling "When I Hear Mu'sic". With Justice's mighty take on ZZT's "Lower State of Consciousness" also here, this is a perfect collection for die-hards and casual Turbo listeners alike.

Review: Now we truly have stumbled onto a gem of a project with this one as legendary Circus Records founder Flux Pavillion returns with a full-length album project, as always, exploring the more colourful side of electronic dance music. Standing at an incredible sixteen tracks, the project is a spectacular showcase into the full range of Flux's musical ability, from the euphoric arrangements of 'I Believe' alongside Asha and 'You & I' alongside Kata Kozma, to the more experimental side of future-funk on 20:25, featuring some fabulous work from The Chain Gang Of 1974. It forms a truly outstanding listen from start to finish, with some favourites including the big room singalong flavours of 'I Will Stay' alongside Turin Breaks, the crunchy percussion of 'Twitterbird' and highly appealing vocal captures of 'Lions Cage', featuring the magnificent Nevve.

Review: Collected and compiled by Top Billing head honcho Sir Nenis, "Premium Crates " pulls together a fantastic set of club-rocking nuggets ranging from uplifting house tracks to dirty bass workers. On a typically woozy and wonky TB vibe, Borussia's "The Magic Hornet" combines rock-solid bottom end rhythms with hypnagogic melodies and Elektropusher's "Greezly" features the kind of tweaked synth madness Mr Oizo would approve of. Elsewhere, Bmore producer Emynd comes in with the charging stomp of "Toot It Up" - sounding like a follow-up to Debonair Samir's seminal "Samir's Theme" - and John Roman's mix of Milt Mortez' "Pluto" is simply too huge for words. Have fun exploring all fifteen essential tracks.

Review: This is a rather starry love-in featuring former Electribe 101 and S'Express singer (and obviously solo star) Billie Ray Martin and Stephen Mallinder, frontman and founder member of Cabaret Voltaire. Produced by the Maertini Bros, the Crackdown Project Volume 1 is essentially a sneak preview of a full album coming soon.

Perhaps the impetus for the deep tech-house production might be Billie Ray Martin's burgeoning DJ career, since she's currently spinning Deep Electro and Tech around the world. Either way, her huge soulful vocals are still on great form - just one listen to the slinky Electro of The Crackdown will confirm it. But it's the cover of Cabaret Voltaire's Just Fascination that is the real treasure here. Given a slow, Lil Louis-styled beat, the song oozes sleaze and soul in equal measure, and polishes over the jagged edges of the original.

The Copycat remix of Just Fascination gives it a more thumping, club-ready feel with a sped-up Dub version for DJ's, while the Celebrity Murder mix adds a Frankie Knuckles-sequence for a more Balearic feel. Mash-up kings Divide and Kreate leave the bootlegging for another day on their mix, instead layering the track with some shuffling Techno chords that work nicely with Billie Ray's vocals. And on a chilled tip, Flying White Dots slows things down and creates a beautiful and warm ambient mix that really tugs at the heartstrings - a perfect way to round off this varied but highly enjoyable EP.

Review: One half of the Pachanga Boys delivers a mix that's as ambitious as Michael Mayer's Immer series. Momento Drive starts with the bluesy rock of Wally Gonzalez' "Wally's Blues" before veering into the lopsided, quirky house of Barnt's "Is This What They Were Born For". From there, the mix makes a move of sorts to the dancefloor with the repetitive typewriter rhythms of Wolfgang Voigt's "Du Musst Nichts Sagen (Fanfaren mix)" and the Gothic, new wave workouts from Rebolledo and Christian S' excellent "Jagos". From there, it's only a short journey to the typically off-beat techno that Kompakt specialises in, courtesy of Gebr Teichmann and Sebastien Bouchet.

Review: After 14 blinding releases, the Trouble & Bass crew have compiled the best of the bass for this collection of original releases from their epic series of gonzoid-electro bangers. From the snakey Dutch leads of Drop The Lime's "Doomsday Device" to the hardcore dubstep tweaks of "Days Go By" by Boogaloo Crew, this is a must-have for anyone who missed out on the earlier Champion releases. Rico Tubbs and Calvertron are to be found in typically ravey form on "Body Free", while Baobinga mixes nasty rap verses with bassline beats on "Make It Drop". With AC Slater, Mumdance, Samo Sound Boy, Marc Remillard and Zombies For Money also included, this is an essential collection of the finest bass beats out there.

Review: S-Express was a group of glorious misfits led by the legendary DJ Mark Moore. A teenage punk and New Romantic, he was a pivotal figure in London's club scene and one who helped house music reach the masses with "Theme From S-Express" which topped the charts in 1988. Here he invites an eyebrow-raising list of names to reinterpret his band's back catalogue and it's a thrill a minute listen. Highlights include HMD's deep disco rework of "Pimps, Pushers, Prostitutes", Chris & Cosey's deliciously electroclash rework of "Lollypop" and Primal Scream's gospel-tinged drone-rock rework of "Mantra For A State Of Mind".

Review: Kompakt's 23rd Total compilation fearlessly explores the dance music realm once again with a curated lineup that ranges from deep minimalism to radiant disco-infused tracks and more. 23 kicks off with Kollmorgen's moody and atypical Kompakt cut "Muddy" leading into the subtle chimes of Argia's "No Concept". Some bite size Italo pop comes via Michael Mayer's "Talmi" alongside a heavier Cologne-infused "Duration" made with legendary cohort Barnt, while there's some new wave to be found from Stephan Barnem & Futuristant alongside some genre-defying "Cinematic Dance" by Jorg Burger. Summer hits also come from Rex The Dog, and John Tejada who drops in with "Duration", before the compilation concludes with Reinhard Voigt's classic vocal and tone combi: "Endlich XXL"

Review: Make way for this year's mega-session from dance behemoths Ultra. Offering nothing but the biggest names in EDM and beyond, across the 58 track stadium showcase you'll find Chuckie, Timbaland, Snoop Dog, even Scooter! Highlights abound but only a fool wouldn't swoon at the twinkling tremors of Felix Da Housecat and Will.I.Am's "Burn The Disco Down" or the Latino minimalism of Morales's "Stay". Big.

Review: As well as their forthcoming takeover of the Brixton Academy in October, Toolroom are celebrating their fifth birthday in style with this collection of five mini-mixes from the night's headliners: Mark Knight, Fedde le Grand, Funkagenda, Michael Woods and D.Ramirez. Each around 20 minutes long, they're packed with huge house-shaped moments from the last five years - with each track available as individual full-length downloads.

Review: The work of two producers - Nicolas Molio and Choukry Chamsa - Chic Flowerz both compile and contribute heavily to this latest collection of fresh and very large house and electro. Though the title may suggest a demure vibe, there's actually some real mainroom fire and energy within these thirty tracks, with some especially sweaty numbers such as Basto's remix of the evergreen "Gypsy Woman", CC Birdy Mind's sweet-as-sugar "You" and Chic Flowerz own signature version of "Lady Marmalade".

Review: A huge collision of metal attitude and electro production marks out this latest release from label Jet Set Trash, as their second volume of self-styled 'Metalectro' bangers sees guitars mangled and chopped (Justrock's "Millenium"), basslines distorted (Rubber Spanner's "Supercrazysoundmachine") and AC/DC riffs out in force (as on the breathtaking "Addiction" by Aza3l). Twenty tracks that defy categorisation but guaranteed to give fans of metal and face-melting electro a rush.

Review: Hankies at the ready... This 30 track best-of set is Ground Level's final release. Celebrating eight years of fuelling the breaks scene with exciting and authentic original material, the label boss Andy McAllister has decided to close its doors and get busy on a new project called Four Three Six. As with any well-selected best of compendium, each and every track is a highlight. But if we're going to pick a few that really sum up the unique spirit of Ground Level then chow straight down on the Orbital-on-triplets vibe of Stylus Rex's "Spangle Wagon", Rebel Sketchy's super-slam bass jam "The Ride" and Andy's very own "The Theme". With its mischievous horns, hype-rising riff and techy undertones, it acts as a great final salute to a game in which they've scored many many wins. Ground Level will be sorely missed.
