Strip It (CMC & Silenta Remix)
Strip It (CMC & Silenta remix) - (3:20) 58 BPM
Review: Ahead of the full 'Remixed EP' things kick off with a sensational rework of "Strip it".Originally hailed for its early Prince-inspired vibes and the captivating soulful vocals of Bobby Saint, alongside the smooth lyrical flow of Prop Dylan, The Niceguys set a high bar with their original release last year, earning widespread acclaim and support. Now, German duo CMC & Silenta take the helm to reimagine this beloved track, infusing it with their formidable musical prowess. The essence of the original remains intact, with CMC & Silenta skillfully preserving its funk-laden goodness. However, they inject new life into the mix with tantalizing guitar licks, irresistible synth hooks, and a beefed-up bottom end that serves as the perfect foundation for the vocals. The result? A remix tailor-made for the dancefloor, yet still possessing the depth and character to stand on its own as a song.

Other People
Other People - (4:46) 126 BPM Hot
Sky Grab - (5:58) 128 BPM
Review: The novelist Jim Crace once wrote that 'hell is other people', but the opposite is true on this release. Following on from Perlen on Acid's debut album last year on Schoenbrunner Perlen, the act returns to the label with an atmospheric EP. The title track is based on a languid, mid-tempo groove, which acts as the basis for textured sound scapes and muffled vocal samples. "Sky Grab" is also a slow burning affair. Centred on lithe break beats and a rumbling low end, a looped vocal refrain is woven into a tapestry of melodic swirls. It makes for an evocative, powerful track.

Out There
Out There - (4:20) 147 BPM Hot
Out There (Unscratched mix) - (4:18) 147 BPM
Review: Bombstrikes welcomes a new collaboration to the label in the form of Boydex, Swim Inc and Lickweed. While these talented artists are making their debut as a trio on the label, their reputation precedes them, having amassed a dedicated following for their eclectic blend of funk-infused rhythms and electronica. "Out There" exemplifies their collective brilliance. Seamlessly merging bluesy undertones with pulsating midtempo basslines and turntablism
Swim Inc: "Teaming up with Boydex, we set out to create something of a stompy banger, walking the fine line between organic bluesy grooves and chunky basslines. To tie the piece together, Lickweed built on those blues band vibes to deliver a guitar solo with a technical turntablist twist and turn the track into something truly out there."

Review: Next up on Shall Not Fade, a swing back into the more breaks-inspired side of their garage roots, welcoming the explosive combination of both Maroki & Hypnos for a glittering two-tracker, steeped in original underground flavour. We open up with the wistful pad sweeps and charming synthetic backdrops of 'Sad Legs', a steadily evolving masterpiece that showcases the emotive side of garage and breaks. On the flip, another synth-heavy display of sonic wizardry in 'Glass Axe', with this creations melodies almost working like a retro sci-fi soundtrack, focussing on eerie reverbs and electronic instrumentation for a very classy B-side. Review: Next up from Bulu, a very joyous outing indeed as he touches down at the super-dependable Bun The Grid imprint, unveiling three original creations that pack both a party-fueled and emotional punch. First up, 'Would You Come Back', a subtle, sliding sweep through glittering arpeggio synthesiser lines and wistful vocal displays, setting the tone perfectly for the rest of the EP. From here, 'Loving You' ups the drum-driven ante with a much more hardcore-inspired breaks arrangement, sitting beneath a stunning landscape of pads and electronic vocal tweaks, before the high energy percussive clammers of 'Hope; give us a truly fiery outro, closing off this EP with some real panache.

Review: Bass Agenda Recordings have struck gold with this latest mission as they welcome the explosive production skill sets of Orlando Voorn inside for three hard hitting breaksy originals, jam-packed with originality from start to finish. We begin with the slumberous rhythmic twists and packed out sub sections of 'Hunting Season', a technophone's nightmare, stuffed to the brim with bleeps and crashes. From here, 'Quick Thinking' then delivers something a little more industrial, focussing on pacey bass bumps and skippy drum sweeps, before the emotive melodies and tooting horn lines of 'The Point Of No Return' arrives for a hard hitting finale. Top stuff indeed!

Deer In The Headlights (radio Slave remix Remaster) - (8:46) 125 BPM Hot
Deer In The Headlights (dub mix Remaster) - (6:09) 125 BPM
Review: Get Physical Music revives its Classics series with a nostalgic trip into its essential archives, kicking off with Chelonis R. Jones' timeless anthem "Deer In The Headlights" originally released back in in 2005 (19 years ago omg!). Remixed by electronic luminaries DJ Hell and Radio Slave, this reissue breathes new life into Jones' haunting masterpiece. The Dub Mix of "Deer In The Headlights" captivates with its moody, low-slung vibe, while DJ Hell's rendition infuses brain-frying synths and sleazy vocals, echoing his electroclash roots. On the flip, Radio Slave's remix delivers unrelenting techno pressure, with insistent synth loops and dark atmospheres. A solid revival here, this reissue not only appeals to new audiences but also reignites the passion of those who experienced these tracks firsthand, reaffirming their timeless appeal.

Review: Locklead has previously endeared himself to the underground house world with nice classy cuts on labels like Hot Haus and Rawax. On Pilot though, he sets his sights on breakbeat and cooks up a tense, thumping and throwback rave sound. 'Freekazoid (Electro 'XXX' mix)' has stiff drums and sci-fi synths with spoken word vocals making for a fun atmosphere. The Ruff Mix is paired back, a driving groove with fresh drum sounds and withering chords. 'Rumpshaker' closes out with a rasping bassline skewing about the mix over more jacked-up and electro-fried drums.

Review: Next up on the super impressive Katakana Edits series, a spicy set of weapons indeed as we take a look into a Goji Berry special. The track itself takes the title 'Sliced Berries' and takes an unmistakable vocal lead and reworks it into a fusion of futuristic breaks and rock and roll. It's quite a task to take such an immediately recognizable vocal and give it an entirely new feeling, but that is something that we see achieved here through numerous key changes and unique instrumentation. Alongside the original rework, we also see an extended mix addition, alongside a full instrumental offering to allow DJ's to play until their hearts are content.

Review: The Sprechen team have delivered a tasty selection of futuristic house-driven taste on this latest link up with Acolyte, unveiling three dancefloor ready bubblers with a tonne of original nostalgic influence woven throughout. First up, we take in the title track 'Helter Skelter', a steady, moog-driven chop through old school drum processing and euphoric pad textures, before the swirling synth patterns and distant vocal reverberations of 'Kill The Bill' sweep into play. Finally, 'Sirens' slows the pace down massively with a much calmer combination of moog-like bass notation and atmospheric texturing, rounding off this one with a dash of additional finesse.

Review: It's always exciting to see a new drop on the awesome Bomb Strikes imprint, a label that has helped push breakbeat music as far as it can go over the last few years, constantly unloading top quality creations. This time around, Prosper and Stabfinger join forces, firstly with the assistance of Too Many T's on 'Doin' The Conga', a vibrant crunch through gnarly synthesis and catchy singalong vocal displays. Nigel's Vitamins - (5:08) 120 BPM
Review: Citizens of Vice are usually very good at sharing info about their artists and releases, but thus far they've kept quiet about this one - a label debut from a previously unheard artist called Daggers. Title track 'Evergreen' naturally sets the tone, with the mystery outfit layering sparkling synth sounds, echoing lead lines, delay-laden hand percussion and drifting bleeps around a deep, dubby bassline and psychedelic nu-disco beats. Elsewhere, 'Space + Time' is a breathlessly brilliant, low-slung dark disco number rich in mind-manging motifs and heavy bass, while 'Nigel's Vitamins' is a TB-303 laden slab of neo-dub disco with added hallucinatory colour.

Leto Doesn't Want U To Get In Da Club - (4:57) 127 BPM Hot
Review: Basile De Surenses' last single, released in the summer of 2023, was an undeniably on-point exploration of the classic disco-house sound. This time round, he channels his inner early '90s raver on a trio of energetic, sweat-soaked workouts. Basile De Surenses first joins the dots between breakbeat-driven hip-house and bass-heavy warehouse workouts on the breathless and brilliant 'AAA', before pitching down a familiar hardcore and jungle break to techno tempo on the wide-eyed, hands-aloft rush of 'BBB' (check the raw rave stabs, looped vocal snippets and boisterous bass). To round things off, the young French producer reverts to jacking 4/4 beats on the excitable and gurning 'Leto Doesn't Want U To Get In Da Club'.

Review: The latest release on Uncanny Valley is a more frenetic affair than usual for the seminal imprint. Ostreaktor's "Chord Runner" is a high-paced, chord-heavy techno track that unfolds to the sound of high-speed percussion. Upping the tempo, Paracek & Palastoni's "Sabroso" is a riotous ghetto techno track that features wild Latino vocals and celebratory shrieks. While the release doesn't scale those high tempos again, it does feature an electro banger in the shape of Conform & K Bye's "Bad Bitch Magic (dub mix)". That sound reaches its logical conclusion on Alphonsine Koh's "No Need For Speed", where rave riffs squeal their way over distended percussive shards.

Review: For the label's 42nd release, Bristol-based Boogie Café has turned to debutant Rob Redford. There's much to admire about the Maidstone-based producer's first full EP, starting with opener 'Makin' Ends Meet', a pleasingly dusty, sub-heavy shuffler heavily inspired by vintage US deep house and smothered in evocative minor key melodies. 'Factory 2569' is a more upbeat and uplifting chunk of Latin-tinged deep house bounciness that joins the dots between Larry Heard, Floating Points and Sean McCabe, while 'We Will Be Here' is a deep and jazzy broken house gem and 'Rain In July' is a percussion-rich carnival-house wobbler underpinned by the most squelchy synth bassline imaginable.

Review: Brace yourselves for an electrifying sonic experience with Ben Pest's latest EP, "Come To The Yard," released on the fearless Co-Accused Records. This EP is not for the faint of heart; it's a pulsating, unapologetic journey into the depths of electronic experimentation. From the very first beat, the commanding title track, "Come To The Yard," grabs you and refuses to let go. It's a high-energy onslaught of pulsating beats and quaking basslines that will have you soaring through a galaxy of sound. Next up, we dive into the quirky universe of "Experting Computers," where fizzing electro meets breakbeats and robotic vocal fragments. It's like your favorite sci-fi movie soundtrack got together with your childhood video game collection for an otherworldly jam session. Prepare for a collision of nostalgia and futuristic funk. As we navigate the sonic landscape, "Erase Me" emerges as a dark and rugged beast. Analog textures arrest the senses as an absolutely jacking rhythm pounds its way to the very center of the dancefloor. This track isn't here to play games; it's here to obliterate any semblance of normalcy. Ben Pest playfully closes out the EP with "Think Again," a machine funk extravaganza that throws it back to the old school acid house days. The infectious 303 bassline grooves along with attitude, making you question everything you thought you knew about dancefloor dynamics. It's like a retro-futuristic party in a parallel dimension, and everyone's invited.

Taking in a wealth of influences, including acid, electro and EBM, this four-tracker is nonetheless in a league of its own. "Run, Run, Run" serves up a dense, 303-led groove, while "Arc" resounds to a gut-busting bassline and a series of woozy drops. Review: Kyiv's vinyl label Artreform (now digi!) and the vibrant Odesa electronic music scene is vividly showcased in Rayo's latest release, highlighting the label's ongoing commitment to nurturing Southern Ukrainian talent. Across four distinctive tracks, Rayo goes with seep and meaningful sounds. "I Stay Here" sets a dreamy, futuristic tone with its enveloping pads and wonky rhythm, perfect for hazy seaside days, while "Moot Shmoot" holds down a persistent melody with hints of early progressive house. Notably, Canadian heavyweight Mike Shannon's remix whole-heartidly embraces the rhythm section of the funk-infused dancefloor, allowing "Kohae Svoju Drujinu" to venture into conceptual electronica territory with its bold fusion of broken beats, spoken word, and giegling-esque vibes. Big up Rayo!

Breaks Away
North Phase - "Breaks Away" - (5:05) 132 BPM Hot
North Phase - "Sound Connection" - (6:06) 131 BPM
ADR - "Ned Flanders Hot Chocolate" - (5:50) 133 BPM
ADR - "Comet Relief" - (6:21) 131 BPM
Review: North Phase and ADR share duties on this four track split EP, each dropping two tracks, although all four of them are firm dancefloor-filling candidates. North Face's 'Breaks Away' adds a few retro rave flourishes to a beat that's a distant cousin of Zinc's '138 Trek' and a bouncy, bumping bass holding the whole thing together. 'Sound Connection' has a hypnotic charm that nods to Fluke and early Underworld, although choppier and less linear in rhythmic approach. Aside from being probably the best named track we've come across in 2024 so far, ADR's 'Ned Flanders Hot Chocolate' is skippy enough to be 4x4 garage but with its scratched asides and cheeky, funky b-line has a unique personality, while 'Comet Relief' nods to the progressive house of the early 90s with an unexpected xylophone-like twist. It's all good, as they used to say.

Review: The Peaky Beats team has been firing on all cylinders over the past few weeks, with this latest link up with Stones Taro showing just how much energy is being poured into the PBR imprint. We open up with 'Leeds 2 Kyoto', a chord-driven skip through choppy syncopated percussion and acidic basslines, with the more pad-focussed synth sweeps of 'Wind Power Ship' then providing some immediate contrast. After this, the breaks reign supreme as 'Karate Cat' unloads a jittering fusion of crunchy drum samples and moogy bass action, with 'Demon Dubs' then giving us a final, stripped back, LFO warbler, closing us off with a smash.

Review: Sans Sucre's latest release, "The Coral Break," on Chat Noir Rec is an exhilarating addition to the electronic music scene. Hailing from Nantes and co-founder of Distant Waters, Sans Sucre introduces us to a sonic journey that effortlessly weaves together elements of electro, breaks, and house. With just four tracks, Sans Sucre manages to make a profound impact. This release shines a spotlight on the artist's versatility and creativity, as they navigate the uncharted territory that lies at the intersection of tech house, breakbeat, trance, and techno. Having previously made waves on Distant Waters, Sans Sucre's arrival on Chat Noir's Tools sub-label is nothing short of electrifying. The standout track, "Make The Lagoon Funk," is a testament to Sans Sucre's ability to infuse a touch of Parliament special sauce into their music. It's breakbeat at its most cheeky and inventive, never taking itself too seriously while delivering an absolute sonic delight. Masterclass in genre-blurring creativity!

Review: As always with Shall Not Fade, we have a vibrant collection of rollers to enjoy, this time seeing Pagan take centre stage across four party-starting originals. First up, Bailey Ibbs lends a hand on the euphoria-inducing nostalgia of 'Another Lover', a luscious landscape of glittering vocal chops and icey synth work, before 'Take You Back' gives us a spacious landscape to enjoy. More breaksy goodness next as 'Falling' once again unloads a stunning backdrop of vocal reverberations and smooth sub pulses, painting a thousand pictures as it moves, with the more glitchy-style synth work of 'Breathe' then rounding the project out with a more unique twist. Awesome stuff!

Review: After dashing between labels at a furious rate over the last few years - most recently Chippy Chasers, Highway Stories and Star Blazers - Tommaso Pizzelli lands on GLBDOM with an EP inspired by "old school Italian hip-hop". This is not hip-hop in the purest sense, of course, but rather an attempt by the Amsterdam-based Italian to join the dots between the breakbeat-driven, scratch-sporting funk of late '80s dancefloor hip-hop and contemporary house flavours. This approach is best exemplified by the ghostly textures, twinkling melodic motifs, on-point scratches and two-step influenced breaks of '60Hz (Original Mix)', which is later given a 4/4, tech-tinged house makeover by Lemonphase. Squeezed in between you'll find the tactile deep house bounce of rap-sampling roller 'Get Deep', and the warm two-step shuffle of 'Emotional Damage'.

Review: Label owner Galtier teams up with Druid to deliver a distinctive, at times psychedelic take on bass. Galtier's "Gilga's Zkull" is a frenetic workout, with jagged breaks and tribal drums setting a frenetic pace - and dropping to reveal dreamy, detuned synths. It makes for a woozy but clubby sound. "Body Horror", a collaboration with Druid, reveals a more tranced out style, as epic hooks are set to a lurching bassline. And the grandly titled collaborative effort, "Bayou of Metamorphoses", also features trance elements - this time entwined in a frenetic, rolling rhythm. Rounding off the release is Druid's raucous solo drum'n'bass track, "Soft Machine".

Review: Another top quality drop here from Amen Brother, a breakbeat label that continues to impress with their high octane roster out in full force. This time around, DJ Pooch is on hand to unleash four high energy creations, opening with the 2023 mix of 'Mind, Body & Soul', a thumping, carnival ready ramp up that focuses both on gritty bass notation and eerie vocal overlays, before 'Rush On Me' takes a classic 'Dibby Dibby Sound' vocal and lets it loose over an old school hardcore arrangement. Next up, 'I Need U' unloads a more old school feel, focussing on organic drum sounds and euphoric synth lines, before the chirpy chord progressions and acidic basslines of 'Hypnotising' close us off with a bang.

Opening up, we see the luscious vocal displays of Sully Sax on display as 'Have Faith' gives us a flutey sweep through emotive strings and tidy drums, followed by 'Bring The Heat', a more clunky chop through classic hip hop samples and guitar licks. Review: The Dirty Kitchen Rave team have unveiled a fiery collection indeed here, welcoming not only the innovative production talents of - Urbano -, but also three keen remixers to deliver this 'Relax' EP in style. The original track is a spicy one, laced with hard hitting robotic-style synth designs and subtle, eastern-sounding chord progressions, culminating in a hard hitting chopper of a drop. Remix wise, we firstly see MINT touch down with a more sublow approach to the arrangement, making the most of those fiery vocals, before POok gives the track a much more abstract, soundscape-driven feel. Finally, Pixel Fist unleashes a throwdown dubstep-sounding overhaul, giving the project one final dash of originality to close upon.

The EP opens with 'Acid Chugger', whose very name kindly saves yours truly having to think of what to say about it! 'Fro Mo' is another midpaced affair topped with dialogue samples, 'Jazz Cat' opens with a "this is a how it should be done" vocal sample (the first of many) and has a party-hearty, Jalapeno-esque feel, before finally we come to 'Something For Your Soul', another chugging, throbbing affair with treated, spoken vocal snips and lashings of acid bass.

Review: Krotone has unleashed an absolute masterstroke with this latest outing on DEXT Recordings, a super spicy sweep through tidy subs and futuristic breaks work, kicking off with the heavily delayed vocal samples and room-filling drum swipes of 'Mash Down', which also sits as the title track. Next to this, 'Joker' takes us down a more experimental garage route, giving us stuttered vocal FX & booming rhythms, followed by 'The Frequency', which then extends those garage themes down a much more dubwise avenue. Finally, the warbling subs and metallic drum work of 'Insane' draws us to a steady close, finishing off this very tasty collection in style.

Review: Laurent Garnier and Scan X's label does a great job in showcasing emerging and established talent, and this split release is no exception. The brilliantly named Return Of The Luddites deliver the raw electro-techno of "Scream Into The Darkness". In stark contrast, Detroit techno-inspired tracks also loom large, courtesy of Skatman's string-filled "Tribute To A Dancefloor" and Squal G's more ominous "Waiting 4U". Mirroring Garnier's own wide-ranging tastes, the release also features the call and response hip-hop/drum'n'bass crossover of Joaquim Plossu, Salem Focus and Phoebe Train's "Theory Of The Tide". Taking the tempo down, Yes Basketball's "Next" is a slowed down, bugged out beatsy track.

Here the Munich-based producer delivers his second outing under his current alias, a quietly impressive label debut for Prins Thomas's Internasjonal imprint. The key cut is 'Brother', a squelchy, star-gazing slab of melodic electro brilliance that comes accompanied by two Alan Dixon reworks: a short, spine-tingling 'Piano Reprise' (two minutes of saucer-eyed bliss) and a sublime, Italo-house influenced 'Love Attack Mix' that sounds like an anthem in the making. Elsewhere, 'The New Normal' is another atmospheric, rubbery and attractive electro workout, and 'Sticky Fingers' is an acid-electro roller.

Opening with the ethereal pad layers and steadily progressing harmonies of 'These Moments', the tone is set very quickly, being rapidly followed by both the sub-heavy bass slides of 'Let 'Em Play' and even slower-paced crystalised synthetic shimmers of 'Achromatic Rainbow'.
