Review: Man like Kublai returns to Total Science's label with some of his darkest, dankest, dirtiest designs to date. 'Big Talk' takes the lead with a big old b2b2b in the studio as Kubbie, TS and Minor Forms all get mucky in the action. Elsewhere 'The Imposter' goes for a classic wormy bassline tension, 'Trippin' is pure filth laced over scattershot drums (with more filth thrown in for good measure) while 'Sullied' closes the EP on a pranged out drone tone. Review: Bladerunner back on Philly Blunt baby! You already know this one is going to be special. Two massive cuts laced with big V funk and exciting, unpredictable twists, 'The Chronic' is an immense piece of work that's just as much disco as it is jungle thanks to some lavish synth blasts mid-way. Review: Nu Elementz and Majistrate's Bites imprint hits the big five-oh right here with this heavyweight four-tracker from jump-up rising star Steryx. Following his 'Gas Pedal' EP on the label late last year, once again it's an all-out stamp session as he flings out some premium uncut grot. High frequency funk can be found on 'Self Destruct', weirdo wobbles and trippy twists are lurking in the shaows of 'Warmed Up' while absolute tear-up lunacy is coded into the heart of 'Twisted'. Review: 20 years old this summer! Basement Jaxx's anthemic string-drench good riddance anthem 'Good Luck' gets two incredible drum & bass remixes on Friction's Elevate right here. First is Circadian who continues to smash things up post Prototypes with this wild dancefloor turbo boost. Think Breakbeat Kaos with added diesel power, it's an absolute monster. Sri Lanka's IYRE meanwhile brings more of a housey type of touch with big filtered chords and a rising sense of momentum that pays off more and more with every 16. Good vibes.

Review: Kerri Chandler continues to mine the untapped depths of his musical vaults and here serves up a third dose of previously unreleased gems. Chandler first offers up 'Let It (Give Me Back My Love)', a typically joyful, hip-swinging and effortlessly groovy chunk of vocal deep house featuring Abbie Lee, before reaching for fluid piano motifs, super-soulful male vocals (possibly his own) and Kenny Dope style broken house beats on 'Another Dawn'. Review: 2024 was always going to be a year of surprises, and the latest release on Rekids is testament to that. Man Power hooks up with the Paris-based Louisahhh for an unexpected anthem in waiting. The title track is an expansive deep house track. At its heart is a pulsating bass combined with Louisahhh's freeform narrative about the state of the world. As befits such a modern classic, Rekids has commissioned Deetron to deliver three remixes. The dub version is a joyous UR-style deep techno version, while the main version follows a similar trajectory, powered by thunder claps and outer space tones. Keeping the audience guessing, Deetron also delivers a 'Drum & Bass' version that focuses on high-paced techno, while the 'Bleep Tool' ends the release to the sound of glistening tonal bliss.

Review: As always, the Deep, Dark & Dangerous crew are out in full force with this latest drop, welcoming the ever-ready sounds of Isded inside for four swampy stompers, destined to set dances alight in the murkiest of settings. We open up with the haunted LFO slams of 'Dig It', a super potent roller that leads us nicely into the hypnotic sub designs of the title track 'Swang', setting the tone nicely across the first half of the EP. from here, thing get even more minimal as the creeping melodies and clunky percussive pips of 'El Affair' give us another smokey backdrop to admire, before the hyper-wonky synth work of 'Shitfire' closes off the EP with a blast. Review: For the latest missive on his long-running Internasjonal imprint, Norse disco don Prins Thomas has turned to first-time collaborators SONNS (AKA South Korea-based Frenchman Timothee Victorri) and Mexcian maverick Inigo Vontier, a producer renowned for the psychedelic nature of his dancefloor workouts. The headline attraction is arguably title tracl 'Mascara De Tigre', a pleasingly percussive, offbeat and mind-mangling affair that wraps hazy piano motifs, trippy electronics and tactile vocal samples around an unusual but addictive beat. Prins Thomas remixes, giving the track a sleazy Italo disco-meets-weirdo house flex, before the pair offer up two more tracks: the acid-flecked nu-disco shuffle of 'Dreamers' and the post punk-goes-dark disco flex of 'Drummers Dance'.

Review: After a flurry of activity in 2023 for Suara, Sleaze and Planet Rhythm, long-established producer Axel Karakasis returns to his own imprint with Source Of Data. Fans of tough, lean techno will find much to love here, particularly "Objective", with its combination of tight claps and powerful, looped bass. But the release also yields surprises by following other paths: "Asphalt" sees Karakasis venture down a Millsian route, guided by dense, visceral kicks and an atmospheric undercurrent. On "Inner Voice" he also pursues a more unconventional approach. While the track is based on tough kicks and a cacophony of nagging percussion, it is also swathed in swirling atmospheric synths.

Review: NYC combo 79.5 are, like Midnight Magic and Escort before them, a live outfit whose trademark sound and output is shaped by the rich musical history of the city they call home. That superb sound was outlined on last year's eponymous debut album, tracks from which appear in remixed form on this must-check EP. There are two takes on previous single 'Feel Like Dancin': an extended deep house take by Malik Hendricks with added Afro-house percussion, and an impressive low-tempo chugger titled the 'Generalisation Dub'. 'B.D.F.Q' also comes in two contrasting variations: the spacey electro-meets-ghetto-house flex of the Jubilee Remix, and an extended version of FSQ's Midnight Magic style neo-disco interpretation. A percussive and joyous J Kriv house revision of 'Our Hearts Didn't Go That Way' completes a fine package.

Review: The latest split release on Analogue isn't designed for the faint-hearted. Dax J's "Ares" gets the EP off to an intense start. Powered by the hardest drums this side of Synewave, there is some relief in the form of the moody house organ that is woven through the arrangement. On "Kal", Kaiser dispenses with musical elements in favour of a relentless tribal rhythm - like a high-paced take on vintage Octave One. Meanwhile, ANFS' "Amete" is centred on a brooding, ebm-style bass and cavernous sound design. Maintaining the same energy but utilising a different approach is Jerm's "Kaki", a pounding rhythm track.

Review: In honour of its tenth birthday, Donato Dozzy and Tin Man's first - and so far only - collaborative EP is given the remix treatment. This time round, it comes in lightly expanded form, with 'Test 3' appearing in two forms: the blissful ambient acid style original mix (a wonderful mid 1990s throwback) and a previously unheard vocal version, which not only adds a drowsy, effects-laden lead vocal, but also a hypnotic, soft focus groove. Elsewhere, 'Test 7' is a fine slab of otherworldly deep house/acid house fusion, while 'Test 2' is a more out-there, mind-altering ambient acid excursion.

Review: Rare Wiri bring us three new rubs of the tracks that made up German nu-disco regular Andy Bach's 'If You Leave' EP, released in November last year. Romanto's take on 'Come On Now' strips away the deep house elements and transforms it into a hazy summer nu-disco jam, Stephane Deschezeaux's Organic Remix of 'Dimesions' injects a little more funk and soul into what was quite a trippy, Balearic-leaning original, before 'If You Leave' - a fairly 'accessible' and pop-oriented nu-disco cut in its original form - gets handed over to label boss Rayko, whose rework gives it a deeper, more underground kinda feel.

Review: Returning to the label almost precisely a year since his 'Alternate Universe' EP, D&B soldier Jaydan is back on S.P.Y's DARKMTTR imprint with two absolutely howling floor-shakers. 'Body Movin' feels tailor made for massive rigs. Cavernous and dramatic, laced with tightly rolled percussion, it's a big cut as we build up towards the summer. 'Blinded' meanwhile is much more of a subversive creeper with its brassy stabs, jazzy vocal echoes and off-beat bass. Two stone cold cuts right here; Jaydan isn't playing around.

Review: Foundation Audio have once again emerged with an absolute firecracker of release on their hands here, welcoming the enigmatic production wizardry of Teffa to the table with four gorgeous stepping originals. Opening up with the glitchy synth work and crunchy drum arrangements of the title track 'EOZ', the bar is set very high from the jump, being closely followed by 'Come In And Do Not Be Shy', a much swampier affair, jam-packed with bulbous bass action. From here, the hard hitting percussive punches and more subtle LFO action of 'G Wagon' roll into play, before the more 2-step inspired grooves and warbling bass notation of 'Flash' closes us off in style.

Review: Fresh from outings on 8Bit and Dirtybird, Audiojack return to the label they established way back in 2010, Gruuv. In keeping with the Yorkshire-raised duo's outings on the imprint, it's a tightly focused and club ready two-tracker. First up is 'Somebody', a rumbling, body-moving slab of 1997 speed garage revivalism - all Armand Van Helden 'dark garage' bass, dark synth strings, echoing vocal snippets and chunky house drums - which sounds like a genuine peak-time anthem in the making. They continue the "arms aloft" vibes on the similarly large title track, 'Release Yourself', which mixes vintage UK garage influences with nods to contemporaneous big room NYC house sounds.

Review: Never let it be said that Robert Hood is letting his listeners languish in a sonic comfort zone. The veteran producer's latest EP under his own name starts with a jolt, as the title track deploys pounding, industrial drums and a chain metal rhythm. "Pathetic" is just as intense. Based on a relentless groove, it sees Hood deploy a spiralling chord sequence that filters its way to a spine-tingling finale. "Outsider" is based on a similar premise, but this time hollowed out drums support a niggling build. This release effortlessly shatters the assumption that Hood would continue to focus on the less abrasive, house-influenced Floorplan project.

Review: Barcelona-based Arnau Obiols has chalked up releases on such respected labels as Local Talk, Ibadan and Compost, and now returns to the latter in the company of Zurich's KAYYAK. Together they serve up two tracks that draw heavily on 70s Afro-funk for inspiration, with 'Faith' coming with a slightly mellower remix courtesy of Medlar & Dele Sosimi while 'San Diago' gets two rerubs, with Rahaan giving the track a slightly jazzier, more leftfield makeover while Prins Thomas's Diskomix transforms it into a slab of percussive, slo-mo disco. Any/all should go down well on floors where Afro-oriented beats are in demand.

First up, a dizzying display of synthetic mastery and fiery double drops as 'In My Head' takes the centre stage. From here, a more groove-inspired approach on 'Run It' as we face a sumptuous sweeping combination of grinding synthesisers and unpredictable drum crashes, before 'Show Me Your Love' takes hard hitting 4x4 drum punches and emotive vocal lines for a killer closer.

Review: Hot new talent stable Breakin' Arts enlist the skills of Kreecha for this two track tear-up. Both timeless jump-up wallopers, both cuts hit with a very different groove. 'Click Clack' has a gruff bassline that grizzles away, barking with funk in and around the groove. Think Culture Shock's 'Bunker' but covered by a kennel of robotic dogs. 'Rip It' takes this aggressive funk to a sharper level with more of a call-and-response style bass hook and more of a rasping, venomous texture. Rip it up!

Review: Veteran producer Dolby D teams up with emerging artist MarAxe for a release that is anything but formulaic. "Subdue" is set to a high pace -one that the rest of the EP emulates. However, despite the fast tempo, its rhythm is lithe, with subtle filtered builds combined with dense percussion. "Expel" is also powered by a relentless groove and percussive elements. On this occasion, the percussion alternates between delicate shards and powerful snare rolls that provide the back drop for a ponderous vocal sample. The title track maintains this fast tempo, but the sound takes a darker turn. Sheet metal riffs are fused with rattling hi hats , making for a furious finale.

Review: Shabi's DOBRO jams continue with Happy Jams that are undeniably exactly that, much what these times need. Pushing a classic house tip with good vibes pads, sample selections, loops and tricks, Shabi gets '90s old school and French touch in his kicking title track. "Let's Talk Dancin'" offers some similar tricks, holding down a groove with a vocal hook to boot, while "I Feel It Comin'" does something some more soul and R&B. "Disco Party" throws down some classic percussion and a walking bassline while "C'mon Let's Fly" may as well be Fred Falke back in the mix. French house style!

Mr Scruff steps up to provide the remixes, offering four passes on 'Ishkaan de Mamie': a deliciously jacking, proto house-meets-acid house full vocal remix that lasts for just a shade under 10 mesmerising minutes, a sleazy and percussive 'Instrumental Dub', an alternative 'Vocal Strip Down' take with added TB-303 tweaks, and a tidy 'Edit'. Turbotito and Ragz deliver 'Pyaar', a brilliant slab of late '80s style Bhangra/hip-hop fusion with added acid lines. Review: Argentinian producer and re-editor Alexny returns to Furious Mandrill with the third installment in a series that draws heavily on world music influences, though whether the three tracks here are re-edits or original productions is a little unclear. Either way, 'Que Pasa' is, unsurprisingly, a Latin-flavoured affair with dense layers of percussion and a one-line vocal, 'Conmbe' is a somewhat funkier affair with a full male vocal in an unknown language and some energetic guitar work that hints at highlife, while finally 'Donme' is a deep, shufflin' groove with choral vox (again in an unidentified tongue) and probably the best bet for non-specialist floors.

Review: Like previous instalments, the twelfth Senso Sounds split release delivers fresh techno from some of the scene's most talented new producers. Sinisa Tamamovic's "Sand" is a prime example of this innovation, as gritty analogue textures are teased out over dense kicks and steely hi hats. Neither Nor's "Mess" is powered by a similar aesthetic. At the heart of the arrangement is a dense, brooding bass, with mysterious tones unfolding against this back drop. Fabrication's "Blotter Spotter" doesn't deviate from the overall mood, but it is more club focused. Led by a warbling acid bass and jittery percussion, it completes this adventurous release.

Review: Brazil's Hugo Doche returns to East London-based label The Disco Express with three fresh slices of contemporary disco/disco-house. 'Hit The Tracks' features a very pop-oriented vocal from Sansy but also sports some excellent sax work, the Kria McKenzie-sporting 'This Feeling' has something of the lounge-y vibe of late 70s Brazilian disco but also comes accompanied by a significantly more house-ified remix from Birdee that for this reviewer is the standout track on the EP, while finally 'Dance' features Carla Sceno on mic duties and rocks crisp 4/4s and a fat funk bassline.
