Review: Back on Pick The lock for the first time in a long time, Kormz brings the storms with this almighty six-pack track attack. Taking off where he last left us with last year's 'Collusion' EP on Nemesis, it's an intense trip into the fieriest corners of his DAW and a place where some really grotty sound designs ooze out of the speakers. Vibes range from the bone-shakingly tearing and gnarly ('Stick') to greasy, deep and offkey ('Desolate') via strange other-worldly trippy funk ('Sh*t Connection') And that's only half of it. Shots fired!

Review: A gent on the streets, a demon in the spreadsheets; Excel returns with another exceptional EP that's absolutely loaded with grot and slimy sonics. Following his 'Apocalypse' EP on Pick The Lock, he continues to hone a very particular strain of 'puking robot' bass that's evident in many of tracks, especially right here. Highlights include the coiled spring flexes and algae-covered bass on 'The Beginning' and the rusty robot scrapes and scratches of 'The Truth'. That's just half of it. Check it yourself... You might say it all adds up.

Review: Just when the sound technician at the club thinks they've got an easy night ahead of them, along comes Kontakt with 'Redlines At Dawn'. Overdriving your mixer with every sharp kick and gnarly bass texture, the whole EP is an absolute steamroller of a session and includes a few familiar faces... Serial Killaz flip 'Start Barking' into a whole dog pound of ruffage while T>I appears on the final two cuts... 'Format' sees him joining Kontakt for a dark and stripped back cut in the form of 'Format' while the EP concludes with a T>I remix of Kontakt's 2022 Richter scale ruiner 'Tremors'. Shake it baby!

Review: The most prolific man in drum & bass, Conrad Subs returns to Ray Keith's Dubplate Dread for the first time since 2020 with a humungous wedge of wallopers. Seven cuts in total, each one of them tailored for those magic 3am moments, big moments range from the gruesome growls and grizzles of 'Octavirus' to the pure raucous shreds and slaps of the title track 'Real Dread', a cut which really does live up to its name. Oh boy, this could well be Conrad Subs' mightiest EP so far, which is really saying something. Real talk.

Review: We hate to break the news to you but, as doctors R!PT!DE and Ghee-K have officially confirmed: 'You're Dead'. Putting this 'ahhhhhhhhhh' into RIP, mourning will be rolled out in a series of super freaky, ultra sleazy, mega leftfield sound designs and textures. From the regimentalist solider orders of 'Rojah' to trippy, broken-spring finale fire of the title track 'You're Dead', this is one exceptional collection. Time to put your affairs in order.

Review: Man like Kublai returns to Total Science's label with some of his darkest, dankest, dirtiest designs to date. 'Big Talk' takes the lead with a big old b2b2b in the studio as Kubbie, TS and Minor Forms all get mucky in the action. Elsewhere 'The Imposter' goes for a classic wormy bassline tension, 'Trippin' is pure filth laced over scattershot drums (with more filth thrown in for good measure) while 'Sullied' closes the EP on a pranged out drone tone. Exceptional drum & bass craft here.

The Chronic - (4:08) 175 BPM Hot
Straight Up - (4:15) 175 BPM
Review: Bladerunner back on Philly Blunt baby! You already know this one is going to be special. Two massive cuts laced with big V funk and exciting, unpredictable twists, 'The Chronic' is an immense piece of work that's just as much disco as it is jungle thanks to some lavish synth blasts mid-way. 'Straight Up' goes for something even ruffer as the main bassline revs up a storm like a can of coke on your bike's back tire. Grizzly ain't even the word, this is savage. Go on Bladerunner!

Good Luck (Circadian remix) - (3:32) 174 BPM Hot
Good Luck (IYRE remix) - (3:54) 174 BPM
Review: 20 years old this summer! Basement Jaxx's anthemic string-drench good riddance anthem 'Good Luck' gets two incredible drum & bass remixes on Friction's Elevate right here. First is Circadian who continues to smash things up post Prototypes with this wild dancefloor turbo boost. Think Breakbeat Kaos with added diesel power, it's an absolute monster. Sri Lanka's IYRE meanwhile brings more of a housey type of touch with big filtered chords and a rising sense of momentum that pays off more and more with every 16. Good vibes.

Review: Nick The Lot on Low Down Deep... Now this is a treat for the senses! Watch and learn as the Brighton bandit hurls out some of his most disgusting textures and techniques possible. 'Big Bad Bass' sets the scene with its oddball noises and sudden turbo synth thrusts. Unpredictable, weird and never taking itself too seriously, the rest of the EP is a riot and highlights come firing left and right and centre - 'Bermuda Triangle' is one of the most bonkers thing NTL has ever done while 'Waccy Baccy' melts us down to a psychedelic mess for the finale. More than your lot.

Review: Hitting us like clockwork, every three months since last October, Exit 100 EPs have been an exceptional journey into the label and everything it's stood for since launching 21 years ago. Over the last two EPs we've had all kinda of beat wizardry and boundary burning but for this one it's all about the cutting edge drum & bass. Each cut is a highlight but Loxy & Resound's 'Tyranny' is a direct trip back to 97, Skeptical & Kid Drama's 'Scorn' is a hearty homage to Krust and Mark System's 'Chinook' is every bit the take-off tune you'd expect from it title. Get to the chopper!

Review: The legendary DJ Hybrid is back in business with another top quality collection, unloading four garage-inspired bumpers on this brand new EP. The title track 'Flex Ya Chest' takes centre stage from the off, exploring old school garage vocal overlays and hard hitting sublines to kick the EP off in serious style. Next, a 140 VIP mix of 'Big Four Five', utilising a hard hitting vocal line atop a bed of quivering LFO lines and choppy drum textures, before the super smooth sub notation of 'All For You' gives us another thunderous display in close pursuit. Finally, 'Area Code' ups the pace significantly with a dancefloor-ready rumbler, focussing on fidgeting synth lines and smooth pads to give us a slightly alternative closer.

Review: Melinki and Shodan on Rebel Music? Now this is a serious meeting of the minds! Proper adult tackle, too, as you'd expect. 'Revenant' is all about the boa constrictor like bassline slugging around the gaff, prone to crush at any minute, while 'I Don't Need' takes us more of a rampant junglised spree, all turbo breaks and a gritty sense of urgency. Finally we hit the sonic skids with 'Bleak'. Proper grumbly, grizzly moody drum & bass for late night basements. High grade.

The Breeze (original mix) - (7:54) 124 BPM
Review: Kerri Chandler continues to mine the untapped depths of his musical vaults and here serves up a third dose of previously unreleased gems. Chandler first offers up 'Let It (Give Me Back My Love)', a typically joyful, hip-swinging and effortlessly groovy chunk of vocal deep house featuring Abbie Lee, before reaching for fluid piano motifs, super-soulful male vocals (possibly his own) and Kenny Dope style broken house beats on 'Another Dawn'. 'The Bassline (Kerri's Dark Mix)' is a moody, percussive and infectious slab of early morning house, while 'The Breeze (Original Mix)' is a drum machine driven box jam that deftly showcases Chandler's immense skill as a beat programmer.

Review: Montenegro-based rework maestro Mitiko (real name Sasha Mitich) has been a busy boy this year, with this EP-turned-mini album marking his sixth missive of 2024 to date. There's plenty to get the blood pumping and the feet moving across the seven tracks on show, from the lightly housed up vocal disco rush of 'Along With You' and the filter-sporting Afro-disco joy of 'Fungi Mama', to the slow-motion disco-funk headiness of 'Ghost' and the build-and-release excellence of the stomping, string-laden peak-time disco of 'Peak At You'. Those seeking mid-tempo thrills are catered for via 'Get Up and Boogie', while 'Latin Hustle' is a memorable revision of a Spanish language dancefloor gem.

Radik'Hall - (7:45) 124 BPM
Cosmic Funk - (7:30) 124 BPM
Review: Franck Roger's "Cosmic Tree EP" marks a captivating journey into the realms of deep house, where Parisian finesse meets the legendary aura of NYC's Nu Groove Records. As an esteemed DJ, crate digger, and label maestro of Real Tone Records, Roger's prowess in crafting immersive sonic landscapes is on full display across these four tracks. The EP opens with "Part Of My Soul," a collaborative effort with Detroit luminary Rimarkable. Here, Roger's signature loop-based approach intertwines seamlessly with Rimarkable's vocals, evoking a cool downtown vibe that feels both timeless and fresh. From there, Roger takes the reins solo, delving into the depths of deep club weight with "The Music" and unleashing the percussive groove of "Radik'Hall." However, it's "Cosmic Funk" that truly steals the spotlight, serving as a sublime homage to the genre. Synthy basslines, vocoder rhythms, and ethereal trebles converge in hypnotic harmony, culminating in a transcendent listening experience.

Review: Raising money for MIND, Complex unleashes a breakthrough banger from his past and shares it liberally around a whole crack squad of new gen producers and compo-winning freshmen. Highlights include Fanatics' super wavey synths and switches, Glitch City's spiralling bass plunges that aren't dissimilar to Original Sin and the all-out tear-up session from Whisper who takes those iconic bass wobbles and flips them into pure shred mode. What a collection; the biggest decision is which remix you're going to play first.

Review: Paul SG's soulful stable just keeps on serving up the good stuff as two long time members of the Jazzsticks crew roll up with two no-nonsense dancefloor gems. Carter dusts off his keys and trumpet for a silky smooth strut into sunset on 'Outlined' while Decon takes things back to darker, stripped-back ravey edge with some classic stabs and vocal samples on 'So Simple'. Arkum (Remaster) - (7:09) 123 BPM
Played by: GATY LOPEZ
Review: Nick Curly showcases his mastery of the underground house scene with the "Come Right Back" EP, released through Cécille Records! Hailing from Mannheim, Germany, Curly's influence spans two decades, with his imprint 8bit shaping the city's distinct sound. "Come Right Back" kicks off the EP with Curly's trademark swinging drum groove, fused with a filtered disco loop and choppy stabs, crafting a dance floor-focused workout. On "Arkum", Curly delves into deeper, darker realms, blending organic percussion and gritty bass stabs with tension-building strings and spoken word vocal chops, resulting in a loop-driven, subtly unfurling peak-time tool with its subtle intricacies.

Baddy On The Floor
Baddy On The Floor - (3:42) 124 BPM
Review: Jamie xx and Honey Dijon team up for a floor-filling heater on "Baddy On The Floor," coming hot on the heels of a string of Jamie xx releases over the past few years, including "idontknow," "Let's Do It Again," and most recently, "It's So Good" in January. The track is a disco house fusion, pulsing with a classic energy. Jamie xx expertly weaves a sample of Keni Burke's "Let Somebody Love You" into the production, creating a sense of nostalgic familiarity. Honey Dijon adds their signature touch, infusing the polished sound with a hint of underground club magic. 2024 summer banger!

Review: 2024 was always going to be a year of surprises, and the latest release on Rekids is testament to that. Man Power hooks up with the Paris-based Louisahhh for an unexpected anthem in waiting. The title track is an expansive deep house track. At its heart is a pulsating bass combined with Louisahhh's freeform narrative about the state of the world. As befits such a modern classic, Rekids has commissioned Deetron to deliver three remixes. The dub version is a joyous UR-style deep techno version, while the main version follows a similar trajectory, powered by thunder claps and outer space tones. Keeping the audience guessing, Deetron also delivers a 'Drum & Bass' version that focuses on high-paced techno, while the 'Bleep Tool' ends the release to the sound of glistening tonal bliss.

Review: As always, the Deep, Dark & Dangerous crew are out in full force with this latest drop, welcoming the ever-ready sounds of Isded inside for four swampy stompers, destined to set dances alight in the murkiest of settings. We open up with the haunted LFO slams of 'Dig It', a super potent roller that leads us nicely into the hypnotic sub designs of the title track 'Swang', setting the tone nicely across the first half of the EP. from here, thing get even more minimal as the creeping melodies and clunky percussive pips of 'El Affair' give us another smokey backdrop to admire, before the hyper-wonky synth work of 'Shitfire' closes off the EP with a blast. Review: NYC combo 79.5 are, like Midnight Magic and Escort before them, a live outfit whose trademark sound and output is shaped by the rich musical history of the city they call home. That superb sound was outlined on last year's eponymous debut album, tracks from which appear in remixed form on this must-check EP. There are two takes on previous single 'Feel Like Dancin': an extended deep house take by Malik Hendricks with added Afro-house percussion, and an impressive low-tempo chugger titled the 'Generalisation Dub'. 'B.D.F.Q' also comes in two contrasting variations: the spacey electro-meets-ghetto-house flex of the Jubilee Remix, and an extended version of FSQ's Midnight Magic style neo-disco interpretation. A percussive and joyous J Kriv house revision of 'Our Hearts Didn't Go That Way' completes a fine package.

And at least he's taken the time to warn us. What a warning it is, too. First up, a dizzying display of synthetic mastery and fiery double drops as 'In My Head' takes the centre stage. Review: After a flurry of activity in 2023 for Suara, Sleaze and Planet Rhythm, long-established producer Axel Karakasis returns to his own imprint with Source Of Data. Fans of tough, lean techno will find much to love here, particularly "Objective", with its combination of tight claps and powerful, looped bass. But the release also yields surprises by following other paths: "Asphalt" sees Karakasis venture down a Millsian route, guided by dense, visceral kicks and an atmospheric undercurrent. On "Inner Voice" he also pursues a more unconventional approach. While the track is based on tough kicks and a cacophony of nagging percussion, it is also swathed in swirling atmospheric synths.

Review: Returning to the label almost precisely a year since his 'Alternate Universe' EP, D&B soldier Jaydan is back on S.P.Y's DARKMTTR imprint with two absolutely howling floor-shakers. 'Body Movin' feels tailor made for massive rigs. Cavernous and dramatic, laced with tightly rolled percussion, it's a big cut as we build up towards the summer. 'Blinded' meanwhile is much more of a subversive creeper with its brassy stabs, jazzy vocal echoes and off-beat bass. Two stone cold cuts right here; Jaydan isn't playing around.

Review: For the latest missive on his long-running Internasjonal imprint, Norse disco don Prins Thomas has turned to first-time collaborators SONNS (AKA South Korea-based Frenchman Timothee Victorri) and Mexcian maverick Inigo Vontier, a producer renowned for the psychedelic nature of his dancefloor workouts. The headline attraction is arguably title tracl 'Mascara De Tigre', a pleasingly percussive, offbeat and mind-mangling affair that wraps hazy piano motifs, trippy electronics and tactile vocal samples around an unusual but addictive beat. Prins Thomas remixes, giving the track a sleazy Italo disco-meets-weirdo house flex, before the pair offer up two more tracks: the acid-flecked nu-disco shuffle of 'Dreamers' and the post punk-goes-dark disco flex of 'Drummers Dance'.

Review: "Emerge" is a phenomenal debut album that cements Berlin-based producer Red Rooms' position as a rising star in techno. The LP seamlessly blends driving energy with subtle experimentation, offering a well-rounded listening experience for techno purists and newcomers alike. Red Rooms' signature sound is on full display throughout the album. Clandestine sonic textures and short, infectious melodies intertwine with the powerful, locked-in grooves that propel each track forward. The album boasts several tracks primed to ignite dance floors. "No Turning Back" is a prime example, with its rave-ready stabs and relentless energy. "Transcendency" offers a more alien twist, merging driving techno with otherworldly drum patterns that will leave listeners mesmerized, while "Cypher" showcases Red Rooms' understanding of minimalism, channeling the spirit of Robert Hood with its stripped-down yet impactful groove. A must-listen.

Review: Boris Brejcha, sometimes known as the Joker, unveils his highly anticipated 10th album, a monumental release on his own Fckng Serious label. With 17 tracks and 3 extended versions, this collection promises a captivating journey through Brejcha's musical evolution. Singles like "Level One," "Space X (Edit)," and "Vienna (Edit)" offer a taste of the album's diversity, while collaborations with vocalists like Malena Narvay and Leony provide this work with a unique depth and richness. Each number on offer here reflects the artist's unmistakable style he's garnered over the decades while still paying homage to his past works that Joker fans love. "Level One" - the stand out track - and in its album form, stands as a pivotal milestone for both Brejcha and Fckng Serious, blending contemporary sounds with nostalgic elements, taking his music and style into a new and exciting future!

With "Tweak It (Like This)" and "The Red Panda", Bug demonstrates his knack for crafting infectious rhythms and timeless grooves - check those stabs! The lead track pulses with a solid groove driven by a fidgety acid line and lively piano accents, while "The Red Panda" takes a more uplifting route with emotive basslines and shimmering keys.

Review: Many licks dismantle? Moody, livid, deadly? Murky love damage? Whatever M.L.D stands for, we're hooked and we're hungry for more. 'Can't Get Over' is all about the big rasping bassline and ten tonne beats while 'Drop The Bass' hits with more of deeper, stripped back vibe that really pays off on the disgusting second drop. Review: The latest split release on Analogue isn't designed for the faint-hearted. Dax J's "Ares" gets the EP off to an intense start. Powered by the hardest drums this side of Synewave, there is some relief in the form of the moody house organ that is woven through the arrangement. On "Kal", Kaiser dispenses with musical elements in favour of a relentless tribal rhythm - like a high-paced take on vintage Octave One. Meanwhile, ANFS' "Amete" is centred on a brooding, ebm-style bass and cavernous sound design. Maintaining the same energy but utilising a different approach is Jerm's "Kaki", a pounding rhythm track.

Review: In honour of its tenth birthday, Donato Dozzy and Tin Man's first - and so far only - collaborative EP is given the remix treatment. This time round, it comes in lightly expanded form, with 'Test 3' appearing in two forms: the blissful ambient acid style original mix (a wonderful mid 1990s throwback) and a previously unheard vocal version, which not only adds a drowsy, effects-laden lead vocal, but also a hypnotic, soft focus groove. Elsewhere, 'Test 7' is a fine slab of otherworldly deep house/acid house fusion, while 'Test 2' is a more out-there, mind-altering ambient acid excursion.

Review: The second instalment of Len Faki's remixes see the storied techno producer tap his favourite artists to re-interpret his work. Luke Slater's Deep Heat take on "Shri Yantra" is redolent of his classic Planetary Assault Systems work, with firing percussion and dramatic break downs to the fore. In contrast, Amotik's version of "Make Me Scream" follows a heads-down approach, with haunting vocals wrapped into a bleep-heavy, rolling groove. In contrast, ANNA's remix of "Hymn" is a tranced out, big room track. At the other end of the spectrum, Modeselektor's interpretation of "Don't Be Stupid Day" is a moody electro stepper, led by waves of menacing low end.

Review: Rare Wiri bring us three new rubs of the tracks that made up German nu-disco regular Andy Bach's 'If You Leave' EP, released in November last year. Romanto's take on 'Come On Now' strips away the deep house elements and transforms it into a hazy summer nu-disco jam, Stephane Deschezeaux's Organic Remix of 'Dimesions' injects a little more funk and soul into what was quite a trippy, Balearic-leaning original, before 'If You Leave' - a fairly 'accessible' and pop-oriented nu-disco cut in its original form - gets handed over to label boss Rayko, whose rework gives it a deeper, more underground kinda feel.

Lovebirds channel their well-regarded love for 70s and 80s sounds into a groovy production. The foundation is an arresting funk beat, bolstered by classic disco instrumentation and dreamy synths. NILE's vocals are the perfect compliment, with a motivational spoken-word style that adds another layer of interest. The package is completed by a remix from disco aficionado Birdee, who takes the original's sparkling energy and adds their own signature touch. Birdee's remix is an upbeat and spacey take, perfect for extending the dancefloor journey.

Review: Fresh from outings on 8Bit and Dirtybird, Audiojack return to the label they established way back in 2010, Gruuv. In keeping with the Yorkshire-raised duo's outings on the imprint, it's a tightly focused and club ready two-tracker. First up is 'Somebody', a rumbling, body-moving slab of 1997 speed garage revivalism - all Armand Van Helden 'dark garage' bass, dark synth strings, echoing vocal snippets and chunky house drums - which sounds like a genuine peak-time anthem in the making. They continue the "arms aloft" vibes on the similarly large title track, 'Release Yourself', which mixes vintage UK garage influences with nods to contemporaneous big room NYC house sounds.

Turbotito, Ragz & Manjeet Kondal - "Pyaar" (edit) - (3:14) 95 BPM
Review: Billed as a "tribute to the forgotten late '80s/early '90s era of Bhangra influenced by house, dub and hip-hop", this expansive collection boasts fresh remixes of tracks from Manjeet Kondal's 1986 album 'Holle Holle', and a fresh cut featuring vocal samples from that set. Mr Scruff steps up to provide the remixes, offering four passes on 'Ishkaan de Mamie': a deliciously jacking, proto house-meets-acid house full vocal remix that lasts for just a shade under 10 mesmerising minutes, a sleazy and percussive 'Instrumental Dub', an alternative 'Vocal Strip Down' take with added TB-303 tweaks, and a tidy 'Edit'. Turbotito and Ragz deliver 'Pyaar', a brilliant slab of late '80s style Bhangra/hip-hop fusion with added acid lines. The 'Lovey Dubby Dub' is a sensational alternative pass that's arguably better than the duo's original mix.

Review: Foundation Audio have once again emerged with an absolute firecracker of release on their hands here, welcoming the enigmatic production wizardry of Teffa to the table with four gorgeous stepping originals. Opening up with the glitchy synth work and crunchy drum arrangements of the title track 'EOZ', the bar is set very high from the jump, being closely followed by 'Come In And Do Not Be Shy', a much swampier affair, jam-packed with bulbous bass action. From here, the hard hitting percussive punches and more subtle LFO action of 'G Wagon' roll into play, before the more 2-step inspired grooves and warbling bass notation of 'Flash' closes us off in style.

Pushing a classic house tip with good vibes pads, sample selections, loops and tricks, Shabi gets '90s old school and French touch in his kicking title track. "Let's Talk Dancin'" offers some similar tricks, holding down a groove with a vocal hook to boot, while "I Feel It Comin'" does something some more soul and R&B. "Disco Party" throws down some classic percussion and a walking bassline while "C'mon Let's Fly" may as well be Fred Falke back in the mix. French house style!

Together they serve up two tracks that draw heavily on 70s Afro-funk for inspiration, with 'Faith' coming with a slightly mellower remix courtesy of Medlar & Dele Sosimi while 'San Diago' gets two rerubs, with Rahaan giving the track a slightly jazzier, more leftfield makeover while Prins Thomas's Diskomix transforms it into a slab of percussive, slo-mo disco. Any/all should go down well on floors where Afro-oriented beats are in demand.

Review: Never let it be said that Robert Hood is letting his listeners languish in a sonic comfort zone. The veteran producer's latest EP under his own name starts with a jolt, as the title track deploys pounding, industrial drums and a chain metal rhythm. "Pathetic" is just as intense. Based on a relentless groove, it sees Hood deploy a spiralling chord sequence that filters its way to a spine-tingling finale. "Outsider" is based on a similar premise, but this time hollowed out drums support a niggling build. This release effortlessly shatters the assumption that Hood would continue to focus on the less abrasive, house-influenced Floorplan project.

Label owner Prins Thomas' "Mere Apokalypso" is a tripped-out groove, while his take on Synk's "Tool Mix" is an acid-laced chugger. In contrast, JaddajaddaPlay's "Bird No Bird" goes down a percussive route. Despite the title, techno does make an appearance. Blackbelt Engh Rhythm Combo's "Frydenlyn" is a rolling tribal affair, while trance influences bubble to the surface on Christian Engh's dubbed out "Khonsu" and Karolinski's high-paced, melodic "Slutt A Mase Eg Har Ikkje Spelt Pa Ei Veke".
