Seascape - (6:08) 125 BPM
Close To U - (6:05) 125 BPM
Exotica - (6:41) 125 BPM
Review: French producer DJ Steaw dives deep into the world of house music with his debut release on the legendary Nu Groove label, the aptly titled "Seascape EP." This four-track journey explores the producer's signature sound - think driving basslines and warm, soulful vibes - while incorporating a range of influences that keep things fresh. The EP kicks off with "Take It There," a powerful track that sets the tone with its pulsating stabs and undeniable groove. The title track, "Seascape," offers a beautiful contrast, layering airy pads over dynamic percussion, creating a dreamlike atmosphere on the dance floor. "Close To U" and "Exotica" further showcase DJ Steaw's versatility. Both tracks maintain a recognizable, nostalgic feel, perfect for those who appreciate classic deep house with a modern twist. They're undeniably club-ready, yet possess a quality that's equally suited for home listening.

Review: Nu Groove Records delivers another gem with "Nu Groove Edits, Vol. 4," a compilation that breathes new life into classic tracks from the label's illustrious history. This release spotlights the artists who shaped the legendary NYC label, offering re-interpretations by leading selectors of today. It kicks off with "Tonight's The Night" by NYC favorites How & Little (The Sound Vandals), given a fresh treatment by Italian duo NiCe7. The track retains its original charm while incorporating contemporary production elements, setting the tone for the rest of the journey. N.Y. House'n Authority's seminal "APT. 2A" gets reworked by UK deep tech aficionado Hugo Massien, resulting in a deeper, more introspective version that retains the groove of the original. The collection also features a remix of The Utopia Project's "File #3" by Mak & Pasteman, showcasing their signature blend of soulful vocals and driving basslines. Then it closes with a bang with the duo Honey Dijon & Luke Solomon re-imagining A.B.T.'s "Luv 2 Luv U." Their edit infuses the track with irresistible energy, making it a guaranteed dance floor mover.

DJ Deep - "What's Going On" - (6:13) 124 BPM
Avision - "Hold No Groove" - (5:56) 128 BPM Hot
Deetron - "Pulse" - (6:36) 140 BPM
Review: Next up on Laurent Garnier's label is a split release that explores the deeper end of house and techno. DJ Deep is up first with "What's Going On". Powered by raw, tribal beats and featuring lush pads, it sounds like the veteran house head's tribute to Joe Clausell's organic sound. Avision's "Hold No Groove" is also inspired by house music, but on this occasion, Chicago rather than New York is referenced. Combining a snaking bass with busy, layered percussion, the result is mesmerising. Deetron ups the tempo but maintains a deep sound on "Pulse", its musical but insistent rhythm recalls classic Kenny Larkin.

Review: Given that his Crosstown Rebels label debut, 'Horizon Red', was widely praised as one of the underground club cuts of 2023, hopes are naturally high for Made In Pete's speedy sequel. In its original form (track one), 'Fires' is a burning hot (sorry) blend of moody vocals (and vocalisations), shuffling house beats, rubbery synth-bass and meandering TB-303 acid motifs. He provides a tougher, darker and more after-hours-friendly 'Dub Mix' of his own, while the package also boasts two other revisions: a deeper, dreamier and more loose-limbed rework by UK scene stalwart Bushwacka!, and a deliciously dark, twisted and mind-mangling tribal house-goes-acid rework courtesy of Victor Calderone and Mykol.

Review: Dombrance has spent the last few years making music inspired by imaginary French politicians of the 1960s, '70s and '80s. To round of the project, he's pitched up on Discolypso to share the final two tracks - and a wealth of remixes. 'Bayou' is a certified throb-job in which alien-sounding synths and heady vocalisations rise above a pulsating, Italo-disco groove, while 'Cope' is a darker, techno-tempo workout rich in analogue electronics and driving grooves. There are too many remixes to mention them all, but our picks include Lindstrom's breezy, electrofunk-influenced Norse disco take on 'Bayou', Baldelli and Dionigi's hybrid dub disco/Afro-cosmic take on the same track and Francois K's suspenseful, stretched-out, slow-build revision of 'Cope'. Throw in a deliciously druggy, Italo-disco-goes-rave revision of the same cut by Diskjokke, and you have a genhinely brilliant package.

Review: Steve Bug and Cle, two titans of electronic music, reunite once again to deliver a mesmerizing EP titled "It Just Happened" on the illustrious Nu Groove Records. "It Just Happened" effortlessly embodies the essence of classic house music while infusing it with a contemporary flair. The title track sets the tone with its ethereal synths and hypnotic acid loops, evoking a sense of nostalgia for the underground house era while showcasing Bug and Cle's forward-thinking approach to production. "Crew Thing" further demonstrates Bug's prowess in crafting standout house tracks, pulsating with infectious energy that is bound to ignite dance floors worldwide. Meanwhile, "House Music Transcends" serves as a fitting conclusion to the EP, lifting listeners to euphoric heights with its uplifting melodies and infectious rhythms. With Bug's extensive 30+ year career and Cle's seasoned expertise, this EP promises to be nothing short of legendary.

Review: Here's another must-check missive of lesser-known and hard-to-find material from DJ Kaos's Jolly Jams label, curated with love by the man himself. Over the course of 12 tidy tracks, we're treated to ambient lusciousness (Superpitcher remixing Kaos's own 'World Turning'), deliciously dubbed-out proto-house (the 'Warehousin' Mix' of Split Secs' 'I'm Not Losing'), mind-mangling psychedelic electronic disco-meets-acid house (Red Axes' 'Promo Only'), dub disco (Slaves of Love and Tavish, whose 'Raw Seduction' is genuinely superb), soaring disco edit action (Spring Break Edit), Sylvester pitched-down and blissed out (Balearic Skip), Kenny Hawkes-ish disco-not-disco eccentricity (Luke Solomon remixing Richard From Milwaukee) and ragging acid tracks (Danny Russell & Timothy Alexander).

In My Body's House (original mix) - (7:07) 126 BPM
Get Back To The Phonk (Josh Butler remix) - (5:34) 125 BPM
Review: Following a two-year gap in which he focused on his House Puff and Rutilence labels, Parisian house stalwart DJ Steaw returns to Kerri Chandler's Kaoz Theory imprint. The three original cuts on show are prime Steaw: rock-solid, high-grade house workouts full of audible nods to the halcyon days of US house in the nineties and early noughties. The headline attraction is 'Get Back To The Fonk', a bumpin', spacey and tactile chunk of peak-time ready deep house haziness blessed with plenty of percussive funk. Kaoz Theory regular Josh Buttler remixes, opting for a more loose-limbed rhythm track, echoing melodic snippets and cut-up, garage-style vocal samples. Elsewhere, 'In My House' is an organ and synth-sax-sporting slab of '90s New Jersey nostalgia and 'Don't Stop' is gently acid-flecked deep house hypnotism.

Review: Throughout their decade-long career, Alma Negra has combined their love of disco and deep house with percussion, instrumentation and ideas excavated from African, Caribbean and tropical musical cultures. On this EP, they largely ditch the latter inspirations, instead delivering full-throttle revivalist disco sounds where the Basel-based band's organic instrumentation and vocals combine with colourful synth sounds and heady horns. The headline attraction is undoubtedly 'Madrugada', a warming and thickset, subtly deep house-influenced take on the turn-of-the-80s NYC downtown disco-not-disco sound. It comes backed with two revisions - an extra-percussive, dubbed-out Yuksek tweak and the band's own dub disco-goes-deep house 'Dub Mix' - and the riotous, party-starting brilliance of 'Funky Fever'.

Review: While he never went away, it would be fair to say that DJ Sneak has enjoyed something of a career revival of late. This EP for Phonogramme follows strong recent outings for Heist Recordings, Hard Times and Toy Tonics. He begins in pleasingly bouncy and percussive mode on 'Let It Go', where warming stabs and hushed melodic motifs rise above a Kenny Dope style bumpin' house beat and deep, rich bass, before opting for a wonky, mind-mangling sound on title track 'Galactic Funk'. The Chicago veteran then gives it to us 'Soft & Ruff' - think rolling, locked-in grooves and slowly evolving melodic loops - while closing cut 'Crashin' Out' is a suitably sub-heavy slab of deep loop-house headiness.

Review: Shall Not Fade has reached the ripe old age of eight, a cause for celebration in these troubled times for artists and labels. To mark the occasion, the Bristol-based imprint has offered up this vast, 34-track compilation featuring new and unheard cuts from its ever-expanding family of artists. Naturally, it not only reflects Shall Not Fade's output, but also that of its various offshoots and series. So, there's plenty of high-grade deep house and immersive, breakbeat-driven deepness, but also surging, high-tempo rave-era nostalgia (see the tracks by TESTPRESS and Sheffield sorts Adelphi Music Factory), bassline (ABSOLUTE & HRSN), futurist techno (Marc Brauner), deep electro (Halo), hip-hop revivalism (Lydia Eisenbatter), progressive house and trance-influenced loveliness (MNL), and much more besides.

Review: Hilit Kolet makes her debut on Rekids with Hot Mess! Featuring remixes from the legendary Mike Dunn, it follows her own versions of Terry Farley & Wade Teo's "Why We Dance". It's her first EP for Radio Slave's label and the title track is a driving anthem that expertly blends marching rhythms with iconic house vocals, heightened in the 'Even Hotter Mix' which as its namesake suggests, spices up the intensity. Moving on, Chicago house maestro Mike Dunn infuses some stylish flair into his take, slowing down the groove, crafting an infectious bassline, and honouring the original's captivating vocals with warehouse style. Boom.

Something Good EP
Late Night Vibes - (5:58) 122 BPM Hot
Right Place - (5:46) 120 BPM
Something Good - (5:16) 123 BPM
Review: St Petersburg's own disco don Sunner Soul returns with three more predictably high-calibre slices of contemporary disco. The EP opens with the sumptuous, lounge-y and aptly titled 'Late Night Vibes' with its dreamy female vocal, chorus'd "oohs" and lavish strings. 'Right Place' then joins the dots between deep house, filter disco and 80s boogie in a most pleasing fashion, before finally we come to the slightly housier 'Something Good' with its rich, warm bassline and sampled chunks of interview dialogue with the mighty Tupac. What the EP doesn't have, you might argue, is any obvious peaktime calls to the dancefloor, but that's a good thing... this is for the headz!

Review: Global Underground's' Select' series acts as a kind of annual nod to all the electronic music that floats their boat, with each digital download edition offering two (uncredited) CD-length mixes and full then versions of each included cut. 2024's edition - volume nine in total - is naturally packed to the rafters with tasty tracks from both established producers and rising stars. That means an attractive, immersive and frequently emotive mix of ambient-tinged deep electro (Pablo Bolivar & Nacho Sanchez), evocative tech-house (Dixon re-working Nandu's 'Around', Guy J's hypnotic, acid-flecked 'State of Trance'),pitched-down neo-trance dreaminess (Joris Voorn editing Solee), grandiose big room workouts (Fur Coat & Lexur), 21st century acid house (Phunkadelica remixing Damon Jee), and uplifting progressive house (D-Nox).

Review: Gifted Italian DJ and producer Chesster unveils his latest record, the tell-tailing Tribute EP, released via PIV - think artists like S.A.M, DJ Steaw, Chris Stussy and more. Busting out with the melodies in "Hot & Lost" to some package nostalgia in "Dance Mania," Chesster goes deep. "Tribute" pays homage to classic US house with that classic garage tinge and UK rave sentiments and funk-infused rhythms. Additionally, grab the the Prunk remix which focuses heavily on a dirty, deeper pulsating bassline with head nods to the Dirty Bird label.

Review: Bondax's "Journey" on Future Disco isn't just an album title, it's an experience. This LP marks a decade in the game for the UK dance duo, and "Journey" reflects that beautifully. It's a blend of their signature sounds with fresh influences, all wrapped in a future-disco sheen. The album kicks off with the previously-released banger "Don't Want It," setting the pace with driving rhythms and those classic Bondax synths. Tracks like "I Only Have You" showcase their versatility, featuring smooth vocals from Eno Williams that blend seamlessly with their sonic palette. A true highlight is "Fade" featuring SHELLS. Flanging guitars and entrancing beats create a mesmerizing soundscape, perfectly embodying the album's exploration of diverse sounds. "Yabaal to London" is another winner, a funky fusion of 80s disco and modern production with the Dur-Dur Band. It's impossible not to move to this one. It's a genre-bending album that pays homage to disco's roots while offering a fresh, modern take. Packed with infectious beats, captivating vocals, and stellar production, this album is a guaranteed dance floor filler and a must-listen for fans of electronic music with a touch of nostalgia.

Review: The new EP, "Offshore Sunsets," by the collaborative effort of Steve Cobby (of Fila Brazilia fame) and Third Attempt washes over the listener like a warm, hazy summer evening. Released on Paper Recordings, this three-track offering is a delightful exploration of Balearic house, perfect for unwinding or soundtracking a laid-back gathering. The opening track, "B Human," sets the tone with its "rolling, hypnotic, spaced-out" vibe (as described by Paper Recordings). Floating minor keys, a walking bassline, and a gorgeously chugging guitar create a sun-drenched soundscape. This is Balearic bliss at its finest. Third Attempt takes the reins for the aptly titled "Language Of The Heart." This track leans into a more downtempo, a perfect offering for those late-night sessions or creating a chilled atmosphere. The duo reunites for the closing track, "Feeling Seen." This hazy, jazzy broken beat number brings the EP to a satisfying conclusion. Deep basslines intertwine with funky elements, showcasing the collaborative magic between Cobby and Third Attempt.

Tol'ko Ya (TSDC remix) - (5:25) 115 BPM
Review: Although he's been operative since the start of the noughties, Unclepasha only has a handful of solo EPs to his name - most notably on London label Nang. Here the Russian producer pops up on Vintage Music, an imprint founded by his fellow countryman Sunner Soul back in 2010. What's on offer are, we think, kind of edits-not-edits - tracks that make extensive use of elements of forgotten old cuts, but with added beats and instrumentation. Title track 'Tol'ko Ya' blurs the boundaries between seductive, low-slung dub-disco, swamp funk and nu-disco, while 'Dubby' lives up to its name by properly dubbing out and beefing up a percussion-rich jam of unknown origin. To round things off, TSDC reworks 'Tol'ko Ya', giving it a filter-heavy, dub-flecked disco-house feel.

Review: As the title suggests, this quietly impressive compilation draws together the "best bits" of Johannes Kolter's KOLTERCAMP imprint, a digital-only label he's long used as a vehicle for his own productions. In some ways, it feels like an introduction to the Cologne artist's work - or one side of it, at least (he also has the more rugged KOLTRAX series and guest releases on other labels). Highlights include the Alicia Myers-sampling disco-house chunkiness of 'Be Real', the insanely funky, P-funk sampling US house bump of 'Get Sexy', the sun-splashed jazz-house deepness of 'Duke', the effortlessly soulful shuffle of 'Sunny Days' and the spacey deep house wonder that is 'Let You Go'. An impressive collection of Kolter cuts all told.

Review: Back in the 00s, Mathias 'Munk' Modica and Jonas 'Telonius' Imbery's Gomma label was at the forefront of the punk-funk and indie-dance scene. Imbery later stepped away and Munk shuttered the label in 2016 to concentrate on his new venture Toy Tonics, but now he's taking time to revisit former glories with this second collection of cuts from the Gomma vaults. The timing's probably right: with clubbing's Nag Nag Nag generation now hitting 40, the retro/nostalgia bandwagon was bound to get around to the 00s eventually, and while certain tracks here may be a bit too redolent of asymmetrical haircuts and scarves worn indoors for some, the set also undoubtedly includes some fine nuggets that deserve exposure to a new generation, notably Mercury's rather lovely 'Sweetness' and Munk's own James Murphy collab 'Kick Out The Chairs'.

Review: The Dutch production duo Makez returns to their soulful house roots with a new four-track EP on Heist Recordings called "Midnight Time." This release showcases the versatility of Makez, seamlessly blending introspective grooves, infectious club anthems, and atmospheric soundscapes. The EP opens with "Closer," a laidback, jazzy collaboration with vocalist AVA LAVÁ featuring lush textures and rich instrumentation that sets a mellow, moody vibe. Next is "Running From The Noise," reuniting Makez with vocalist Life On Planets after their previous hit "Downstream." Life On Planets' emotive vocals mesh perfectly with Makez's trademark deep house rhythms, creating another potential dancefloor gem. It then gets into higher gear with the acid-tinged, 90s-inspired techno groove of "The Answer." Powered by a male vocal hook, acid basslines and classic 909 drum programming, it's a high-energy cut primed for peak-time club plays. Closing out the EP is "Gratitude," which ventures into deeper, more introspective territory with haunting strings, glitchy vocal samples and distorted synth textures layered into an immersive sonic landscape.

Review: Adeen Records is on a roll right now and this time out they welcome the Detroit hero that is Marcellus Pittman for a new and beguiling four-track EP. Known for his work with The 3 Chairs collective as well as his solo jams, this Motor City mainstay opens up with 'You Always Hank Bank One Time' which is a real mental maze of rickety loops and blurts of degraded synth. 'Another Spring Lover' is another rusty and lo-fi piece of archetypal Detroit house that is very clearly machine music but with a unique sense of human soul. 'I'm Gonna Be The Everything' is a raw drum track with sparse, heartwarming chords and 'Slick Nickle Pladium Investment' is a knackered downbeat hip-hop closer. Magnificent.

Review: Giuseppe Tuccillo enjoyed a fruitful 2023, with his solo outings on Nu Groove, Melodeum and Kaoz Theory being amongst his greatest releases to date. For his first missive of 2024, the long-serving Italian producer pops up on his own House of Tucci label with a predictably impressive three-track offering. Tuccillo begins with 'Talk To Me', a kind of ultra-deep, rubbery and bass-heavy fusion of hypnotic mid-90s NYC house and early '90s Italo-house, before unfurling the bustling, hard-to-pigeonhole, Afro-cosmic-goes-house elasticity of 'Attention'. It's genuinely inventive and infectious, as is closing cut 'Magari', where Tuccillo wraps deep, filtered synth sounds, airy vocal snippets and tactile electronic motifs around a boogie-influenced drum track.

Review: Almost two years on from his last appearance on the label - a collaborative release alongside German drummer, percussionist and producer Locke - Athenian veteran Lex returns to Delusions of grandeur. This time round it's a nominally a solo mission, though Locke and Dennis Liber do appear as featured collaborators on selected tracks. Our pick of a very strong bunch is 'Without You', a hypnotic and locked-in acid house roller full of mind-mangling TB-303 motifs, jazzy Rhodes licks and spacey chords, though the deep and funky, disco and jazz-funk tinged 'Strip Town' is almost as good. Locke and Guto Fernandez hook-up 'Purity' is a fine vocal number that sits somewhere between percussive Latin house and nu-disco, while Dennis Liber collaboration 'No Time For Formalities' sounds like a long-lost piano house track from 1988.

Vitess' latest five-track special, Visions, for Rossi's HOMEGROWN label provides the artist with a second appearance there - making himself known with the stand out track on this EP, "Blue Vision", somewhat already anthemic in its appeal thanks it synth-driven energy and dancefloor operandi. Turning up the sultry disco fever and French touch vibes in "Jami Rocaille" - other numbers like "First Night" so richly remind us of The Ones "Flawless", while "Big Sound" throws in some dubbier house action. And for that bassline and acid session check out "Drive Me Crazy".

Review: By now, we should all know what to expect from Alexander Chebankov AKA Sunner Soul, namely warm, woozy, tactile and picturesque cuts that combine his own production chops with elements borrowed from disco, boogie, soul and Balearic jams. 'Da Funk', his first missive of 2024, boasts four tried and tested cuts. First up is the title track, a filter-heavy slab of filter heavy disco-house which boasts nods to some of Basement Jaxx's earliest material. This is followed by the Tiger & Woods-esque boogie-house of 'Need You', a tidy (and subtly dubby) South American jazz-funk-meets-disco number ('Brazilian Rhythms') and a gorgeously dreamy slab of ambient excellence ('Deep Space').

Review: There's a hint in the title here, as theBasement Discos serve up a collection of 20 house tracks with the ivories firmly front and centre. But while the old Joanna might be the thread that ties it all together, there's still plenty of variety on offer, from sprightly jazz-house workouts like AFAMoo's 'The Art Of Jazz' to deep house jams like A Naranjo's 'What Lies To Head' and Foot-Loose's 'Weekend'-biting disco-houser 'LA Piano Mood'. It's not all nostalgic homages to the hands-in-the-air anthems of the early 90s, in other words - though naturally there are plenty of those as well, with Piem's '4Real' one clear standout in that department. Of course, if you're not a fan of piano-based house, it's probably not the album for you... otherwise the 'Paradise' part of the title is entirely justified, nuff said!

You're Gonna Miss Me (Soul Avengerz remix) - (6:54) 124 BPM
Review: Calling "You're Gonna Miss Me" a classic is an understatement. Turntable Orchestra's 1988 anthem has transcended eras, captivating generations with its instantly recognizable piano riff, infectious vocals, and playful instrumentation. Now, house veteran Soul Avengerz takes a turn at reimagining this dancefloor gem, and the result is a remix that honors the original while injecting it with fresh energy. The original's trademark vocals are tastefully preserved, reminding us of the track's timeless appeal. However, Soul Avengerz cleverly introduces subtle tweaks, adding depth and texture to the vocal delivery. The overall effect is a remix that feels both familiar and exciting, a perfect blend of nostalgia and fresh energy. Whether you're a longtime fan or discovering "You're Gonna Miss Me" for the first time, this remix is a must-listen.

This mini-album tells the story so far, gathering tracks released at various points over the last 18 months. There's much to admire throughout, from the rumbling UKG style sub-bass, funky house beats and deep house textures of 'Hold Up', and the driving heaviness of 'The Man From Another Place' (where a shower of sparkling synth sounds descends on the weightiest of rhythm tracks), to the ghostly two-step deep house excellence of 'The Zone' and the immersive, ultra-deep wonder that is standout 'Melody Dub'. 'A Thousand Times At Night', with is booming sub and poignant pianos, is also superb.

It's the boi's third album in four years across three labels and first on Shall Not Fade in which he's become something of a figure head, and Into The Blue Light signals potential for AOTY (Album of the Year). Filled with deep and impactful emotion, melancholy and warmth, it's a long player that pulls at the heart-strings while firing up the dancefloor with chords, keys and melodies that hit those sweet spots, while booming in kick, bass and drums. Highlights include opener, "Won't Let You Ruin My Mood", the pop-aqua rave of "For The Last Time" and some piano-driven Moby inspirations in "The Joy You Once Felt".

Review: Frits Wentink continues his productive partnership with Wolf Music Recordings, one which is now entering its 11th year (an eternity in dance music terms). 'Club Land', the title track from the Dutch producer's first EP of 2024, is a nostalgic and wide-eyed affair, whose sparkling piano riffs, bumpin' house beats, mazy synth solos and rubbery bassline sit somewhere between Frankie Knuckles and MK productions of the mid 1990s. There's also a slightly jazzier and more US garage-influenced 'Alternate Mix' that boasts some rather addictive organ stabs. As the EP progresses, he opts for a deep, dubby and trippy sound on 'Crowd Control', before doffing a cap once more to vintage NYC and NJ deep house on superb closing cut 'Run Run Slow'. One of his best for a while and that's saying something!

Review: Z Records boss and all-round UK house legend Dave Lee has spent much of the last few years remixing classic cuts from the disco and boogie era. Here he delivers something a bit more revolutionary: an early '90s US garage-inspired single created using a rare and little-known Trammps vocal acapella. As you'd expect from someone of Lee's experience and vintage, the EP opening 'Garage City Mix' sounds like a long-lost early '90s NYC garage jam, with the Trammps' expressive vocals and hands-in-the-air piano solos (provided by the talented Michele Charavarini) riding a chunky bassline and swinging drums. The 'Garage City Dub' is, if anything, even better, with killer organ solos raising the energy levels to supersonic heights.

Review: Aroop Roy serves up two new slices of his trademark globally-inspired deep house. 'Re Bulele' (feat Fox Meropa) is, in its Original form, a lilting affair with rolling beats and a simple electronic bassline topped with a smooth, melodic, Afro-style male vocal and, as the track progresses, sweeping synth washes. The accompanying FNX Omar Remix is slightly darker and more ominous in feel, with the track's electronic elements brought further to the fore and the vocal applied more sparingly, while the EP's completed by 'Mama Mwana', which has a similarly gentle, laidback feel to the title track but is more organic in its instrumentation.

Review: Heist Recordings' 'The Round Up' - an annual mini-album in which label artists remix each other - reaches its tenth volume. As usual, there's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout. Dam Swindle channel the spirit of Victor Simonelli's early '90s NYC house productions on a fine version of Cinthie's 'Won't You Take Me', Krewcial opts for a bouncy, piano-rich 'classic house' revision of Orlando Voorn's 'High', and DJ Sneak re-imagines Dam Swindle's 'Soul's Lament' as a rolling, string-stab laden slice of rolling Chicago chunkiness. Further highlights include Crackazat's loose-limbed, sun-soaked and synth solo-heavy revision of Krewcial's 'Owo', Cinthie turns DJ Sneak's 'Full Cycle' into an acid-and-filter heavy peak-time loop jam, and Orlando Voorn and Marina Trench join forces on a deep, drowsy and woozy rework of UC Beatz's 'Make Me Feel'.

Review: Manchester-based Loz Goddard returns to the spotlight in celebration of Dirt Crew Recordings 20th anniversary (Dirt Crew Recordings - 20 years? No way!). It marks a comeback for the producer after a notable debut collaboration with Harry Wolfman in 2016. Known for his unique blend of electronica, deep soundscapes and lush and organic deep house, Goddard has graced labels like Oath, Razor N Tape and Church on his musical journey, presenting here for DT a captivating mini-album featuring beautifully crafted ambient and electronica pieces alongside three energetic tracks. Inspired by a night at the White Hotel in Salford watching Skee Mask, Goddard goes deep on six compositions, offering listeners a journey through a new age sound of house to prick the ears of Legowelt fans for sure. Big ups Loz!

Review: Despite her status as a globe-trotting purveyor of "melodic music" that "takes you on a journey through time and space", Deer Jade has not released all that much music. In fact, this two-track outing for Cologne's mighty Kompakt Records marks her solo debut. She dials up the mysticism on title track 'Jukrupa', a swirling and trippy cut built around complex, intricately programmed percussion, bold bass and twinkling piano motifs that recall rushing old school house. Her love of all things psychedelic comes to the fore on 'Cosmic Dream', where mutant acid bass, echoing electronic motifs, hazy chords and trance-inducing TB-303 lines deliver nods to formative UK progressive house.

Review: After dashing between labels at a furious rate over the last few years - most recently Chippy Chasers, Highway Stories and Star Blazers - Tommaso Pizzelli lands on GLBDOM with an EP inspired by "old school Italian hip-hop". This is not hip-hop in the purest sense, of course, but rather an attempt by the Amsterdam-based Italian to join the dots between the breakbeat-driven, scratch-sporting funk of late '80s dancefloor hip-hop and contemporary house flavours. This approach is best exemplified by the ghostly textures, twinkling melodic motifs, on-point scratches and two-step influenced breaks of '60Hz (Original Mix)', which is later given a 4/4, tech-tinged house makeover by Lemonphase. Squeezed in between you'll find the tactile deep house bounce of rap-sampling roller 'Get Deep', and the warm two-step shuffle of 'Emotional Damage'.

Review: As anyone who has followed his career will tell you, Cor.Ece is a talented chap - a GRAMMY award-winning songwriter (he has enjoyed mega-hits with his work for Beyonce) and Honey Dijon collaborator who also happens to be a top-notch vocalist, producer and musician. On 'Be Here Before', he joins forces with Bastard Jazz regulars Bad Colours to deliver a fabulous full-length excursion. They set the tone with 'Say Yea', a constantly rising slab of soul-fired deep tech-house, before flitting between intergalactic house-soul ('Mars'), 21st century hip-house/nu-disco fusion (the ace 'What Happened To The Revolutionary'), UKG-influenced excellence ('Jeans'), Afrobeats-adjacent awesomeness ('Might Could'), slow motion boogie-soul ('Mt Miss U') and much more besides. Review: Producer Blair French makes an impressive debut on MotorCity Wine Recordings with his "Ancestarians" EP. The release finds him adeptly bridging the worlds of soulful Detroit deep house and laidback Balearic grooves, carving out a distinct musical identity. The Physical Mix of the title track lays down a midtempo, jazzy groove primed for the dancefloor, infusing pan-African rhythms and a rich interplay of live instruments. In contrast, the Spiritual Mix ventures into more atmospheric, ambient realms, highlighting French's varied musical influences. Kicking off with a vibrant bounce, "Champagne Kiddie Pool" melds bright cavaquinho tones with an infectious dembow-inflected groove, conjuring up a summertime beach vibe. The EP's closing cut "Sandbox Fossils" ratchets up the energy level with its dynamic drum programming, shimmering keys and a standout bassline performance.

Review: Chinese producer Mr Ho impresses muchly with this release on his own Klasse Wrecks label. '000 Baby' in its Original form is a delightfully diverse concoction that blends ethereal synths, a haunting, lilting female vocal, drums that nod to early 90s street soul, Rastaman shouts, a big fat bassline and, as we get into the second half, lots of pleasing acid squelch. As if that wasn't enough Bristol boy Jim Coles, better known as Om Unit, then gives the track a deep drum & bass makeover that's enough to get the hairs on the back of your neck standing up and no mistake, guv'nor. Top drawer bizniss for sure.

Review: Volume 7 in the series but for once we can't really say "you should know what to expect by now" because what this compilation really goes to show is just what an eclectic and diverse camp the long-running Manchester label has become, with tracks on 'Paper Cuts #7' ranging from the near-ambient Balearica of Aniso Tropics' opener 'Apricot Memorex' to the self-explanatory synth-y stylings of La Guardia de la Luz's 'Trance Aleman de los 90s' via the uptempo strut of Jahn Solo's 'Disco'. So all we can really do is point you in the direction of some standout cuts, which for this reviewer would include D.S.D's luscious 'Just Can't Stop' and Benny Pitcher's 'Transatlantic Motion', which is like a little musical nod to the days when Paper comps were called 'Splinter'.

Review: Freerange Recordings takes us on a vibrant exploration of Johannesburg's musical landscape with "City To City: Johannesburg," a compilation featuring various artists. This diverse collection pulsates with energy, capturing the spirit of the city's dynamic and ever-evolving music scene. The journey begins with "Icey Baby" by KaySoul, a track that lives up to its name. Soulful vocals and sensitive production create a chilled and introspective atmosphere. SculpturedMusic takes a turn with "Midnight Talk," their signature deft pads shimmering over soft kicks, painting a sonic picture of a late-night cityscape. Then SizLeCaude's "Far Apart" injects a dose of energy with its driving bassline. With "Love (Kinda Thing)," Radic The Myth injects the compilation with his signature sound - harmonically rich and punchy house music that reflects his unique approach to the genre. To close the EP, Persie Botta and Jade Nickels team up on "They Never Loved Us," offering a quintessential slice of Joburg-style deep house: lush pads, powerful groove and a touch of melancholy weave through the track, leaving a lasting impression.

Review: Born and raised in Cork, Ireland, but now living in London, Tree Threes is a house and broken beat inspired producer taking a lot of reference as he moves forward from fellow Cork natives Fish Go Deep and of course the West London broken beat scene. Here he arrives on Scruniversal with three funked up, sample heavy numbers, taking in phat bass licks, sultry horns and shuffling drums in "Be In Love" - one for that approaching London summer. "Where's The Party" goes a little deeper, bluesy and housey with them chords, while "Too Deep" gets a little bit skippy on the beat, stays subtle on the melody, and keeps it super jazzy without any ragtime. Hotness.
