Dreader
Dreader - (3:42) 141 BPM
Side 2 Side - (4:26) 134 BPM Hot
Review: It's been a little while since we last heard from the U Wot Blud team, a label that had really pushed themselves to the forefront of UK bass music before taking a brief hiatus earlier this year. They return here with this very tasty project from Tweakz, who combines a range of styles to deliver a scorching project, kicking off with the futuristic dubstep rolls and colourful sub-lines of the title track 'Dreader'. The B-side for this one completely switches the game up, applying some super groovy, garage drum-styles over euphoric chord expanses to deliver a fantastic contrast to the A-side. Lovely stuff!

Running From Yourself (Skelecta remix) - (5:00) 134 BPM
Running From Yourself (Voltage remix) - (4:38) 140 BPM

Running From Yourself (Drone remix) - (4:16) 135 BPM Hot
Running From Yourself (Albzzy remix) - (5:04) 126 BPM
Review: Last year U Wot Blud leaked a cheeky one tracker, Running From Yourself, by El B with the promise of a full EP shortly after. It's unclear if this new remix package is indeed that promised EP, or if they're just teasing us even more. However they've been very generous here, presenting six different versions, our picks being the doomy two-step boom of Voltage's version, the intense deep throb of Drone's wobble heavy mix Forbid's spacey stop-start laser hit.

Rising Stars
Drone - "Rough Hands" - (4:06) 140 BPM Hot
Forbid - "Lost" - (4:48) 120 BPM
Pavv - "Out Here" - (6:21) 133 BPM
Albzzy - "Givin In" (feat Georgia) - (3:44) 124 BPM
Review: U Wot Blud seriously have to be contenders for having the best label name ever. Their music ain't bad either and here they present who they feel are some dead cert "Rising Stars". All elements of bassland are covered over these four tracks, often many in just one song - highlights include the Robin S-getting stretched into linear garage house of Forbid's "Lost", the ADHD wobble attack of Pavv's "Out Here" and the doomy shuffle of "Givin In" by Albzzy.

Rising Stars Vol 2
Terpsichore - "Gully As Charged" - (5:35) 148 BPM
94 Bliss - "How To Love" - (5:51) 134 BPM Hot
Danny Stephens - "Evil Intentions" - (6:03) 128 BPM
94 Bliss - "Make My P's" - (4:25) 140 BPM
Review: U Wot Blud deliver the most exhilarating new bass sounds around, so when they select someone for their Rising Stars series you know that they're gonna be good. Here there are three producers with stars in their eyes - first up we get the sci-fi dubstep march of "Gully As Charged" by Terpsichore, before taking off with the accelerated 4x4 disco-step of 'How To Love" and the deeper, sparse rhythms of "Make My P's", both by 94 Bliss. Finally Danny Stephens steps up to the plate with the sleazy wobble-grinder "Evil Intentions". The future of bassline is looking rosy!

Coke & Rum
Coke & Rum - (5:58) 130 BPM
Gonna Be - (6:18) 133 BPM Hot
The Whistler - (6:14) 134 BPM
Let Me - (5:06) 127 BPM
Review: Underground Brighton hero Pavv has clearly been busy partying since he dropped his last EP back in May. Now he's returned to tell us all about it and the title alone, Coke & Rum, gives us a good idea of what he's been up to. The title track is a stern slammer with alternating bass gurglers and sparse vocal snippets. The other three tracks continue the doom-boom vibes: "Gonna Be" mixing machine gun beats with soulful vocals, "The Whistler" introducing more synthy melodies to the madness and "Let Me" featuring electronic spirals and powerdrill bass. Tough love.

Kalimba - (4:15) 136 BPM
Venom - (4:23) 132 BPM
Rudeboy - (3:54) 128 BPM Hot
Review: With London's Daze Prism tearing up the bassline landscape this year, it was inevitable that he and the mighty U Wot Blud would eventually meet. Meet they did and the result is the much-anticipated Venom single. These four tracks are going to take this producer to the next level, with sounds ranging from the dreamy UKG and soulful ("Don't You", "Venom") to sizzling 4x4 driven mayhem ("Kalimba","Rudeboy"), and all laced DP's trademark urban edge. No antidote necessary.

Gorilla Warfare
Gorilla Warfare - (3:54) 125 BPM Hot
Vitamin D Sharp - (5:22) 122 BPM
Keep It Going - (3:10) 126 BPM
Review: Ultimate bass batboys U Wot Blud sign Forbid onto their roster, and the brother comes through with three nasty piece of low frequencies for the dancehall. "Guerrilla Warfare", as the name implies, is a no nonsense gun-slinger with a bit of wobble-end to support its frame, and "Vitamin D Sharp" carries that vibe through to an ever nastier bit of rave-stabbing bass, whereas "Keep It Going" chucks in some 4/4 drums and twists the wobble into a stone-cold UK hard-house budget that'll rock you brains and jaws out. UFF!

Bump & Shake
Bump & Shake - (5:17) 124 BPM Hot
Amnesia - (6:14) 123 BPM
Review: For their latest release the U Wot Blud crew have searched for fresh talent as far as the Russian Federation! They've found it too in future-forwards duo Sine Step (aka Jack & Beek Chelyabinsk). The Bump & Shake single features two key tracks that reveal the pair's fresh production style, one that's is based around their love of riding the oscillators. The title track is a sparse, mechanical workout with sinewy percussive rhythms, ghetto beats and squelchy synth melodies. "Amnesia" on the other hand, sees 90s trance pads get fussed out over a driving garage jam.

Skank
Hype Skank - (4:23) 135 BPM
Punjabi Skank - (4:10) 135 BPM
Minor Skank - (3:52) 128 BPM Hot
Nonsense Skank - (4:52) 135 BPM
Review: The aptly named U Wot Blud label storms through our Juno bass charts this week, with the return of badboy 94 Bliss and his bumpy, teched-out approach to garage. The first bit of skanking, "Hype Skank", is a fast-paced shuffle monster with a big bass end and a nice bit of mutant wobble, while "Punjabi Skank" is leaner and tougher on the beats and claps. "Minor Skank", on the other hand, is more of a classic house pumper with subtle UK flavours, and "Nonsense Skank" takes us back to the late 1990's, and the to the likes of So Solid Crew, Oxid & Netrino, and the rest of that mandem.

No Sun
No Sun - (5:33) 128 BPM Hot
Workout - (5:12) 125 BPM
Hoodwinked - (4:41) 126 BPM
Review: We're assuming that Brighton's Mofaux knows the actual definition of the term and doesn't think its clever-but-hard name. If it's the former then he's got a good sense of humour, something he can afford to have because his tunes are actually pretty badass indeed. "No Sun" is a swingy slice of tough and bleepy 4 x 4, whilst "Workout" opts for a more rolling hip-house vibe. However it's closer "Hoodwinked" that's the real showstopper here - moody piano stabs, frenzied drops and funky cowbell-led grooves. Sizzling stuff!

Tengu & Albzzy - "Thief" - (4:03) 128 BPM
Tengu & Karl Vincent - "Kaifeng" - (5:57) 130 BPM
Review: Representing the south coast massive, duo Tengu have been crafting premier league house/garage/bass jams for a few years now. "Dirtyyy" is probably their toughest club banger yet, with swollen bass undulations and tropical rhythms a plenty. Forbid also steps in to add some more rolling housier vibes to the tune before the guys return with Albzzy for a low slung DJ tool, all sparse 4 x 4 drums and haunting synths. Rounding things the pair are joined by Karl Vincent for the hard-hitting "Kaifeng" which shows us just how fun the dark side of speed garage can be.

You & I (Pavv remix) - (4:24) 132 BPM Hot
Review: Here U Wot Blud have reached out all the way to Austria, home of rising star Robsi Mantoura. Having spent some time in the UK absorbing the bassy sounds of Julio Bashmore and his ilk, he now gives us EPs like Spread Love. "You & I" is warm, skippy house with extra sprinkles of garage and wobble for good measure. Pelikann toughens it up with starker snare rolls and chants whilst Melinki goes for orchestral DnB and Pavv opts for straight up wobble. Finally the original "Love" is more soulful with nods to 90s garage and even some sax!

TK Vicious - "You Went" - (5:17) 130 BPM
Lycid - "Redshift" - (6:41) 125 BPM
Review: U Wot Blud are always ahead of the game and although many have moved on since last year's instalment of the Rising Stars series, they've not stayed still either. This third volume shows us a whole new side to the UWB sound, which if not exactly 'sensitive', is certainly showing a kind of newfound maturity. The dancefloor is still their main priority of course, and the two 4/4 techy electro-house bangers by Aliii ("Artifice", "Blackmail") totally capture that spirit. Elsewhere highlights include scattershot tropicalia and bouncy bass of "You Went" by TK Vicious and the pounding future-jack-fest of "Redshift" by Lycid.

El-B Presents Ghost Collective: We See You

El-B & Vandal - "Hostile" - (5:14) 132 BPM
Blaze - "QD1" - (5:03) 129 BPM
El-B - "We See You" - (5:27) 131 BPM
Played by: Mr Brainz, Tigs
Review: El-B and his supernatural crewdem, show us just how well they understand the UK bass scene. El-B is a solid contributor to the foundations of dubstep, and here in 'Celly' we can hear the dark, ominous wobble we associate with the early days of the sound, the 2 step drums and ragga vocal bring a party element to an otherwise somber track. Collaborating with Vandal for 'Hostile' we hear a fat, juicy sub, covered in layers of reverb and echo while sweeping atmospherics give us the uncomfortable feeling of being followed. Blaze's 'QD1' is all about the bass, short blobs of deep sound make up the main body of the track, with sharp drum to slice through the soundscape. 'We See You' sees El-B come with our favourite track of the EP, shuffling 2 step is decorated with eerie chords, drippy hollow sound effects and a dark bouncy low end.

Played by: Mr Brainz
Review: London's Jack Baxter is up next on forward thinking bass label Wot U Blud and has also thrown down some fat beats on Low Pitched Records, Nu Wave and Broken too in recent times. The Phaze Reversal EP starts off with the brooding title track, which is powered by a four to the floor beat and soothing ethnic style strings until that gnarly sub bass takes over in fine form. "My Love" gets off in more broken fashion, beat wise, with a bouncy bass and UK garage style hollers with diva vocals: this is proper street sound! Finally "Nerve" is the darkest offering here: deep dubstep at its seething and paranoid finest.

Review: Eastbourne producer Albzzy has been blazing a trail since arriving as a 16 year old a few short years ago. "Express Hours" is his latest missive, and with its sparse UKF groove and brooding atmospherics is about to get heard big time. There are two remixes included in the package, first up Credential delivers a heavy breath jack attack, before 94 Bliss takes things into an effervescent tropically percussive meltdown.

Review: U Wot Blud? Is the UK's most forward-thinking bass label, and when they decide to celebrate something, they don't mess about. The occasion in particular here is the label's 25th release, and to mark it they have prepared this 52(!) track compilation. It's a flippin' rollercoaster ride of bass shenanigans, with some of the many highlights including the trancey, leftfield trap of "Hater" by Wizard, the neon-flecked bass pulses of "Blackmail VIP" by Aliii and the techy-disco fizz of "Nonsense Skank" by 94 Bliss. Best take a month off and get totally lost in this jungle of bass gems.
