GLIA - "2X Gola" (Hard mix) - (6:27) 132 BPM

Josefina Munoz - "4E" - (5:53) 131 BPM
Review: Next up on Coyu's label is a compilation that really lives up to its title. _Power starts and finishes with tracks from GLIA - the grungy, vocal-led "2x Gola" and the eerie, stepping "Laws Of Physics And Karma" - while on "External Body" Marina George lays down a tough acid track. The compilation moves a few notches in the intensity levels with Ana Lilia's pounding "In Too Deep" and the wild ghetto stomp of Zaphy's "Wein". However, _Power never strays into senselessly banging territory and Rouge delivers a superb, ebm-style workout on "Prism" and Cora's "Exit" is a linear tribal track that resounds to lean, steely percussion.

Contact - (4:32) 130 BPM
Review: Ostgut's sister label continues its voyage into the grey area between the abstract and the main floor with a release that may come to be merely known as 'hyphens'. While not completely forsaking the dance floor, "Contact", is all dark drones and shattered glass percussion riding the dark backing rhythm, while "Aggregate" veers back towards club usage with its hammering drums, razor sharp percussion and concrete beats. "Osmium" also shows that there is more common ground between the abstract and the dance floor with filtered percussion and acidic bass licks providing all of the action, before "Herschel" dips back into the abstract with dreamy synths and breathy vocals underpinned by subtle broken beats.

@L5d - (7:23) 130 BPM Hot
@rkyn - (7:02) 132 BPM
Review: Having demonstrated the breadth of his artistic vision with the excellent One Against Time album last year, John Dimas returns to Half Baked with a focused EP of dancefloor heaters that keep the vibe varied but the beats ever-present. "5putn1k" is a cheeky, boxy workout with plenty of swing and some wriggling bassline flex. "@L5d" takes a trippier route through spaced out synth lines and a subliminal rhythm section for maximum lock-in, and then "5p@c3 T@lk" heads skywards with a gorgeous tapestry of melodious expression strapped to a rock-solid groove. "@rkyn" completes the set with a snagging 2-step funk and plenty of the space in the mix for the meditative crew to get all eyes-closed to.

Gidge - "Lit" - (6:02) 131 BPM
Solitary Dancer - "Transmitting To Heaven" - (11:24) 132 BPM
Review: "!Kollections" banner. Each focuses on a certain aspect of the long-running label's vast back catalogue. The fourth edition, for example, focused on disco. "Reflections", the latest volume, is not as tight stylistically and instead gathers together tracks that tend towards the deep, poignant, beautiful and melancholy. There are many treats amongst the 27 showcased selections, with highlights including an impeccable chunk of string-laden downtempo pop from DJ Tennis and Fink, a dreamy slice of loved-up house warmth from Lone, the bustling, dream house era Mediterranean holiday memories of Mugwump's "God is Gracious" and the thrusting, big room-friendly late night hypnotism of Dubfire's "Dust Devil".

Last Light On - (5:14) 132 BPM
Review: In a career spanning almost three decades, Pittsburgh's veteran producer Shawn Rudiman still continues to impress after all this time. He is back on his esteemed Pittsburgh Tracks with .. The Next Planet Over - which follows up last year's tremendous lontimeg player Timespan. A consistent producer throughout his time on the scene, this one is no exception so expect some energetic and unaduleterd analogue soul - as heard on the hypnotic minimalist bounce of "Works On Paper". The pounding, heads-down affair that is "Last Light On" is perfect for those strobed-out moments, while the hi-tech emotions of "Switching Rails" calls to mind the timeless vibe of second wave Detroit - that had all old-school nostalgists like us getting our groove on! Top release.

'2r2t'
9005 - (7:11) 130 BPM
Played by: Nachtbraker
Review: In case you didn't get the memo, Wanderist is the new solo alias of Maarten Smeets, one half of popular Dutch deep house duo Detroit Swindle. This debut EP under the alias sets out his sonic agenda, offering a few reminders of what many enjoy about his better-known act's work - rich musicality, warm vibes, and positive melodies - while also exploring a different set of electronic music inspirations. The headline attraction is arguably '2r2t', a wonderfully tactile and melodious chunk of loved-up electro warmth that comes accompanied by a wavy ambient revision (lusciously saucer-eyed) and an acid-flecked Dawud remix that joins the dots between sci-fi techno and intergalactic deep house. Elsewhere, '9005' is a dark, muscular and hazy techno roller and 'Fog' is an analogue-rich take on spacey '80s electro.

Review: In his highly anticipated third album, '93,' renowned US producer Maceo Plex pays homage to a remarkable three-decade journey into the electronic dance music. Blending house, hip hop, global bass, techno, breaks, and electronica - '93 showcases Plex's ability to seamlessly traverse genres while crafting an audio journey for the masses. Collaborating with a stellar lineup of artists including Perry Farrell, Desire, Cubicolor, and others, '93' is a cross-genre exploration that balances emotive musicality with hard-hitting beats. Departing from his early deeper house roots, Maceo Plex intentionally ventures into new territory, steering away from a melodic and techno direction, celebrating a pivotal juncture in his career, offering a diverse and dynamic musical affair that captures the spirit of his electrifying DJ sets for the now.

Meet Me In The Middle - (4:46) 134 BPM
Review: With the exceptional re-emergence of garage in the UK over the last twelve to eighteen months, we are seeing people get more and more creative with it. Higgo is an artist who breathes creativity, holding such a unique sounding production style in his fingertips at all times. This brand new project with Rare Supply kicks off with the title track '95', a nostalgic skippy groove, driven by super bouncy drum and sub infusions. Next we land on the jazzy riffs and soulful harmonies of 'Meet Me In The Middle', before we finish up on our personal favourite 'Work', again driven forward by some immensely sidechained drum designs.

Review: It's time to explore the unexpected here as we jump head first into the latest selections from the Colony team who unveil a very weighty full length project from K.L.O. The project is absolutely stacked with collaborative energies for starters, with exciting features including the likes of Kursa, Lone Drum and Osmetic. Our favourites across the whole project have to include the super syncopated hip hop flavours of 'Lamp Sandwich', alongside the demonic synthesizer slaps of 'Avant Parred' and eerie melodic twists of 'Yo Eye Right Now'. We would thoroughly recommend letting this one roll out on long play!

'I Wanted More' EP
I Wanted More - (5:33) 131 BPM
Review: On her first outing of 2022, Hermoine Frank brings her rRoxymore project to Aus Music for the very first time. The sometime Don't Be Afraid regular eases us gently with EP opener 'Drunken Clouds', an effortlessly picturesque affair in which chiming, chocolate box melodies and sustained organ chords dance atop a drunken, analogue-sounding bassline and skewed hip-hop beats. She strides confidently back onto the dancefloor on title track 'I Wanted More', adding sweet R&B vocal snippets, hazy chords and marimba melodies to a rumbling bassline and breakbeat-driven deep house beats, before often for a decidedly intergalactic, off-kilter sound on the excellent 'Midnight Shift'. To round off a fine EP, Frank goes ultra-deep, poignant and melancholic on the impressively emotive 'Last Day I Dance'.

'Sad Days' (DART remix) - (5:54) 133 BPM
Review: It's always an exciting time to see a new Skream drop land in the store as the Croydon veteran continues to broaden his musical range with this euphoric drift into acidic abandon. Through a combination of blissfully busy drum breaks and stacked harmonic synthesis, this one sends us on somewhat of an emotional rollercoaster across 7 minutes of sonic mastery. As well the original, which is a journey enough in itself, The release also comes complete with a slightly quicker rethink from DART, who combines colourful arpeggio-based blips and a more central-sounding synth line for an interesting twist up of the original. Both of these are going to cause some serious damage in the clubs across the winter months.

"The Extended Play EP"
Night War - (7:45) 130 BPM
Review: Next up on Me Me Me is label owner Man Power with a riotous release. It starts off with the pulsating "Night War", which fuses dramatic stabs with a solid, pulsating electronic groove. On "1011", Man Power opts for a more grimy approach, with a scuffled rhythm and staccato beats underpinning churning chords. Meanwhile "Sweet Cornelius" sees him deliver a more stripped back take on this track, with noisy bleeps and rickety drums prevailing. On "Night War", he opts for a more upbeat approach, as wild electronic stabs unfold over a pumping groove and incessant snare rolls. Rounding off the release, Zombies in Miami delivers a tough, acid-heavy take on "War".

Review: Kellen303 is a Brooklyn based DJ and producer who is Transit.fm co-founder and self-described word of mouth badman - a music junkie who appears here for the London-based dubstep label Keysound ,owned by Dusk and Blackdown. From the stripped back drum and bass deconstruction of "Planet X" to the bleak urban landscapes as described by Bronx based Afro-Dominicano MC Rainey on "Spy Glass" - you can see why this talented producer's dark sound appealed to this usually UK-centric label. The rapid-fire drum attack of the fiercely orchestrated "Big Shot" is also worthy of mention. All in all a unique hybrid, with tracks that are inspired by goth rock/industrial, footwork and vogue music.

Venus - (3:43) 132 BPM
Review: With an already impeccable catalogue of top quality releases, Sector 7 sees the return of the legendary Kahn & Neek combo for four new scorchers. We kick off with the title track 'In The Mansions Of Bliss', a highly harmonic steppy roller, fueled with twisted melodic grooves and pleasing sound design throughout. This is chased up by the slower tempos of 'Random Lab', a more dungeon-ready design again filled with chilling atmospheric layouts. Next up, the glitchy synth stutters and subtle eski-influences of 'Shimmer', before we finish up on 'Venus', a stunning piece of soundscaping, incorporating angelic vocal lines, emotive string lines and luscious pad textures. Very cool indeed!

Review: In its' original form, Klaus Blatter's "(I Find Myself Surrounded By) The Lunatics of Acid House" is a throbbing chunk of bass-heavy acid house/techno insanity featuring a rambling and eccentric spoken word vocal. Here the track gets the remix treatment, with the resulting versions offering even heavier takes on an already weighty track. Ejeca channels the spirit of early '90s Belgian techno on his slamming and mind-altering interpretation, while Vort brilliantly re-imagines it as a bubbly chunk of acid/deep electro fusion. Original producer Novak Spormento delivers a twisted and insanely intense "Pills Dub" - all ragged TB-303 lines, echoing vocal snippets and slamming grooves - before offering us a chance to savour his previously unheard instrumental version.

Squal G - "Waiting 4U" - (8:59) 130 BPM
Review: Laurent Garnier and Scan X's label does a great job in showcasing emerging and established talent, and this split release is no exception. The brilliantly named Return Of The Luddites deliver the raw electro-techno of "Scream Into The Darkness". In stark contrast, Detroit techno-inspired tracks also loom large, courtesy of Skatman's string-filled "Tribute To A Dancefloor" and Squal G's more ominous "Waiting 4U". Mirroring Garnier's own wide-ranging tastes, the release also features the call and response hip-hop/drum'n'bass crossover of Joaquim Plossu, Salem Focus and Phoebe Train's "Theory Of The Tide". Taking the tempo down, Yes Basketball's "Next" is a slowed down, bugged out beatsy track.

Neptune (feat Catz 'n Dogz) - (4:47) 132 BPM
Review: Having operated on the fringes of deep and tech-house since the mid '90s, DJ booker-turned-producer Till Von Sein is finally ready to drop his debut album. It's hugely entertaining, deviating from his usual club-friendly deep house style to take in a myriad of styles and influences. While a smattering of piano-laden deep house grooves remain (see "Sumthin Good", "Monday" and the low-end heavy "61"), the German producer also finds space to include excursions into springy disco ("Ltd"), sleazy jazz breaks ("Out of Love"), Detroit-influenced early techno futurism ("Non Existent Love") and smacked-out downtempo blissfulness (the post-dubstep influenced "Neptune"). Well worth checking out.

Review: Not only does this hashtag-brandishing banger sit neatly amidst the playlists of trap, breakbeat, bootybass and ghetto-funk, it's something of an all-star cast, too. To make things even more appetising, Rat have called up JFB, Afrowhitey and Dancefloor Outlaws for an array of equally heavy genre-bending rubs. JFB smelts notions of dubstep naughtiness with tight rolling beats, Afrowhitey throws down a series of massive trappist drama hits and licks while Dancefloor Outlaws opt for a more subtle, jacking house angle. In true Rat fashion each one tickles a totally different corner of the dancefloor with aplomb.

Review: The way Audaz has been churning out these Lolita collections lately, you'd think "possession of an unreleased re-edit" had just been made a crime under German law! But the quality standard shows no sign of slipping, so that's hardly cause for complaint. Standouts of this fourth volume include '038', which revisits Kim And Rasa's obscure 1982 Ghanaian funk/rap jam 'Love Me For Real', '035' with its fusion of country rock guitar and sweet female disco vox, and '037', which reworks Brass Construction's 'Changin' from 1975. Review: This is Guy Blanken's first Talismann release in three years, but the hiatus has done little to diminish the project's powerful sound. "Gran Abuelo" is a case in point: its sharp percussion and cavernous kicks provide the backdrop for a growling bass that integrates a human vocal. "Desert Rose" follows with a more experimental proposition as shrieking brass and tribal drums take the lead due to the absence of a kick, while on "Methuselah", robust drums come back in as part of a rolling groove that also features a wailing banshee vocal. Rounding out this impressive is "General Sherman", its tough kicks and waves of filters making for a powerful combination.

Dreampieces (Zongamin remix) - (5:13) 131 BPM
Review: 20 years into his career as Headman, Robi Insinna is in a nostalgic mood. He's decided to offer up a series of retrospective compilations featuring original productions and remixes, some of which were previously unreleased. To begin the series, he's prepared an epic collection focusing on archive cuts recorded between 2001 and 2011. There's plenty of weighty, low-slung goodness to be found throughout - much of it inspired by a mix of post-punk, punk-funk, no wave and dub disco -as well as some stripped-back, synth-powered hedonism (see the 'Rework' of his collaboration with Yello's Deiter Meier, 'Gimme'). Some of the included remixes are rather fine, too, with highlights including Chicken Lips' sleazy, TB-303-powered take on 'It Rough', In Flagranti's sweaty revision of 'Gimme' and Chmmr's throbbing, delay-laden re-wire of 'Blue Boys'.

Review: We have a grudging admiration for Audaz's Lolita series, which offers up untitled, numbered re-edits with little fanfare or fuss. While track titles wouldn't go amiss, there's no denying the high quality of the cut-jobs on show. Predictably, volume 10 in the ongoing series boasts another swathe of must-have edits. These include a gently sped up and tooled-up take on Cymande classic "The Message" ("091"), a shirtless skip through one of the Pet Shop Boys' most Italo-disco influenced early cuts ("092", which bites 1986 single "Love Comes Quickly"), an electric piano-solo-laden Euro-disco bounce-along ("094) and a disco-house revision of what sounds like a classic disco cut ("096"). In a word: superb.

The straight-edged "Charlie" is a dubbed-out house stepper with an urban vocal touch, while "Back It Up" is a bass-weighted monster capabale of devouring dancefloors. A clap-centric "Mankey" is a techy hybrid of dub and bass for peak time dealings, and furthermore there's a pretty fine line of remixers too, as Spookz and JG both rework "Mankey" into a sludgier half-step beast.

Where some volumes in the series have leaned heavily towards a particular sound (be it disco, African music or 80s rock/pop) in terms of source material, 'Vol 21' sees them casting their net far and wide, reworking cuts as diverse as CJ & Co's 1977 disco strutter 'We Got Our Own Thing' (now reinvented as '201'), Vanilla Ice's 1990 novelty rap hit 'Ice Ice Baby' ('206') and Jona Lewie's 1980 new wave/synth-pop nugget 'You'll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties' ('210'), as well as an assortment of unidentified Italo, Eurodisco and coldwave obscurities.

Review: With the Lolita re-edit series reaching its 22nd installment, you should be familiar with the general vibe/ethos/MO by now, so we'll dive straight in. For '212', read Skatt Brothers' 'Walk The Night' from 1979, while '214' bites L'Ectrique's 'Struck By Boogie Lightning' from the same year. '215' reworks Space's classic 'Magic Fly', '217' revisits Bionic Boogie's 'Risky Changes' (1977) while Shakatak's 'Easier Said Than Done' (1981) is reinvented on '219'. Review: Another week, another 10-tracker from Audaz's ever-prolific re-edit crew. The instant recognition factor is provided by '232' and '239', which rework Paul Hardcastle's '19' and Parliament's 'Chocolate City' - to devastating effect in the latter case, if perhaps slightly unnecessarily in the case of the former. The rest of the EP draws on more obscure sources, but largely coming from somewhere on the funk-disco continuum (in contrast to previous volumes that have looked to mainstream pop/rock or world music) - '237', for instance, bites Cela's 'I'm In Love' from 1979,while Modern Romance's rap-vocalled 'Can You Move' from 1981 provides the basis for '234'.

Volume 25 continues in a similar vein, with highlights including the rushing 130 BPM disco hedonism of "241", the colossal percussive builds and heavy dub-disco bass of "243" (a stripped-back, all-action revision of a leftfield NYC disco classic), the tactile wonder that is the loved-up disco niceness of "246" and the wild electric piano solos of "248", a largely instrumental revision of a breathy, sought-after disco classic that's been stripped of its' wide-eyed female lead vocal.

Review: Already supported by Ben Sims and Kirk Degiorgio, 04/14 is one of the best examples of modern underground techno. In fact, it's a shame that the producer behind this series doesn't step from the shadows because he/she deserves praise for this three-track release. "Mo 7" provides an irresistible combination of swelling chords, skipping, metallic percussion and tough kicks, while "Mo 8" is more abrasive. It sounds like Mod3rn has constructed the beats from rusty oil drums and the filters rage like a storm over the Adriatic. The best track however is "Mo 9"; over stomping kicks and a swinging rhythm, Mod3rn drops cheese-wire percussive volleys that make the track sound like Mike Dehnert in ballet shoes.

1 - (5:55) 130 BPM
Review: Last seen sharing space with 100Hz and Voightmann on his own E Numbers imprint a couple of years back, Bobby O'Donnell resurfaces via a collaborative outing with Reeshy, a fellow Leeds resident who is seen by many as a rising star of the Yorkshire scene. In keeping with the PILOT label's breakbeat-driven, retro-futurist feel, each of the four cuts on show doff a cap to turn of the '90s rave culture. This is arguably best exemplified by weighty, funky and spacey bleep & breaks jam '2', though the arguably even more sub-heavy, UK garage influenced opener '1' comes a close second. Elsewhere, '3' delivers subtle nods towards Rob Gordon and Richard H Kirk's short-lived XON project (look it up, kids) while '4' is an acid-flecked warehouse shuffler.

1 By 1 - (4:50) 134 BPM
Review: The genius of Music From Memory has always been the label's ability to shine a light of sublime music that most will have missed. Certainly, very few will be familiar with the work of Geoffrey Landers, a Denver, Colarado-based multi-instrumentalist who recorded three albums and one single between 1982 and 1987. This superb retrospective contains material from all of these releases, deftly showcasing Landers' intriguing musical palette - a trippy mixture of vintage electronics, experimental new wave influences, strange spoken word snippets, occasional dub influences, effects-laden guitar passages, post-punk attitude, minimalist synth-funk and what would now be considered discordant art-rock. It's a stylistic melting pot that makes for wonderful listening.

High Down - (4:35) 134 BPM
Review: 1 Inch/ 1/2 Mile, the debut album from Grasscut, demonstrates nicely Ninjatune's steadfast refusal to compromise on its sonic principles as it appproaches it's 20th Anniversary. Grasscut's music is formed from stockpiled field recordings and recycled 78s and snatches of illicit conversations recorded on mobile phones edited and reworked into the tapestry of their musical compositions. The outcome is a bewitching combination of twisting psychedelia, stuttering clicks and cuts, ambient soundscapes and downbeat pop which sucks you in as soon as the woozy haze of kaleidoscopic noise explodes on 'High Down'. It's on haunting compositions such as '1946' and 'The Tin Man' where Grasscut truly shine. The latter provides the album high light with the sampled squeak of the Pompidou centre providing a spectral melody upon which layers of piano and strings gently play out before the sound of Count John McCormack's unique voice signals an onset of crashing percussion.

Fawne - "Under Gravel I Must Rest" - (4:02) 131 BPM
Review: What better way to kick start the party than an underground dance music collection? This time it's being given to us by the fantastic team over at Back 3 who have pulled together a wonderful compilation with this one, being the second edition of the '1 More Tune' series. Featuring 15 of the most palpable 4x4 bangers, from the silky liquid flavours of Hallow's Aquifer, to the tech-induced percussive pulses of 'Peggy Cadis' from Baronna, and back around shuffling, synth-heavy halftime struts of Amalgamate's 'Save U', a delicious dubstep-infused masterclass. Overall, the pure depth of dancefloor heat this project is able to expand across is it's strongest asset, with sounds covering D&B, Breakbeat, Dubstep and more, with our highlights including the ruckus-inducing synth growls of 'The Hive & The Queen', next to the gorgeous roller soundscape of Jinbu's 'The Answer' and Erotic Cafe''s super abstract 'Alive'. Fantastic stuff.

Extremely Dangerous - (4:10) 133 BPM Hot
Never Turn My Back - (4:58) 132 BPM
Turn The Lights Down - (6:24) 130 BPM
Review: Leeds twosome Soul Mass Transit System have been one of the success stories of the last 18 months, with their bass-heavy blends of UK dance music styles old and new gracing such labels as Timeisnow, Warehouse Rave and Dr Banana. Their latest EP, the pair's second outing on Instinct, is another strong offering. They begin with the seductive, sub-powered two-step revivalism of '1 Of A Kind', before reaching for darker sonic textures, serious wobble bass and echoing ragga snippets on 'Extremely Dangerous'. 'Never Turn My Back' is a pleasingly bouncy chunk of bassline-influenced two-step heat, while 'Turn The Lights Down' ratchets up the low-end pressure while showcasing chiming melodies and ultra-dreamy pads. High-grade garage business that should be an essential for anyone who loves two-step.

James Mannion - "BS7" - (6:08) 132 BPM
Review: U.S. imprint based out of Dallas, Audiophile XXL, has been unstoppable over the last year with a continuous onslaught of up and coming North American producers and their take on tech house, electro house and west coast bass sounds. This compilation showcases the labels current array of talent with eighteen tracks certainly guaranteed to destroy a dancefloor near you. Highlights include Los Angeleno Dillon Nathaniel's "Transcend" a bass heavy cut for late night parties on Hollywood Boulevard and sure to get some gun fingers in the air. Oregon's Aaron Jackson appears with "Get Some Jungle In Ya Jungle" which has some totally absurd vocoder and beat repeat action and rising British producer James Mannion: whose grime infused jam "BS7" is proper UK street sound.

Review: You can always rely on John 00 Flemming's JOOF label to deliver exciting and refreshing electronic music and this from Moscow's Anton Chernikov is no different. A firm fixture at the label for a while now he presents an EP of arguably his finest work. Three tracks of dark and twisted psy trance that will rock any rave you unleash them at. Lead track '10 Miles To Mars' has the most power and standout appeal with the more uplifting 'Blue Planet following closely behind. Keep things moving forward, jump on these now!

10 Seconds Vol 2
Maximum - (3:49) 131 BPM
Review: Earlier in the year, A-Trak paid tribute to old-school house and rave-era breakbeat hardcore via the 10 Seconds Volume 1 EP. The Canadian turntablist-turned-big room headliner opts for a similarly retro-futurist vibe on this sequel, first opting for a bouncy, loose-limbed and warming, Chicago "boompty" kind of sound on 'Keep On' before charging away on a surging, filter-sporting French Touch tip (think compressed, chopped and looped disco-house) on 'Maximum'. Arguably more potent - and certainly less in-your-face - is 'Limbo', where acid bass, bleeping melodies, spacey electronics and snappy drums catch the ear, wile 'Cortez' sounds like vintage, late '90s Caassius with added jazzy samples.

George Kelly - "We Feelin' Good" (feat BnC - acapella) - (2:10) 133 BPM
Review: A decade has now passed since George Kelly established the Chopshop imprint as an outlet for goodtime grooves, sneaky reworks and club-ready re-edits that blur the boundaries between disco and house. To celebrate the fact, he's gathered together some of his label highlights on an expansive compilation. It's arguably best enjoyed via his action-packed DJ mix, which is tucked away at the end of the collection, though DJs will delight at the sheer volume and quality of the unmixed cuts on offer. Our favourites include the rubbery bounce of HP Vince's appropriately titled "Funky Disco Party", Kelly's killer Marlena Shaw revision ("Raised In The Ghetto"), the bustling funky house pleasures of HP Vince and Dave Leatherman's "Back 2 The Old Skool (House Mix)") and the disco-rap goodness of Captain Futuro's "Club Warzone".

Donato Dozzy - "Morena" - (6:06) 131 BPM Hot
Skudge - "Bite" - (6:27) 130 BPM
Review: Acid Test has always forged its own path, and this independently minded aesthetic defines the music on the label's ten-year compilation. Lerosa's "Uneasy" and VC-118a's "Silver" are both engrossing, abstract affairs, while label mainstay Tin Man and John Tejada both deliver streamlined, pulsating takes on the acid sound. Delving into the darker corners of the 303, there's Achterbahn D'Amour with the raw, jacking "7 Edit" and Donato Dozzy's squelch fest, "Morena". Meanwhile, the rolling electro drums and subsonic tweaks of Sepehr's "Persian Acid Prince" further underlines the fact that when it comes to underground electronic music, few labels are more adventurous than Acid Test.

Insolate - "He Said, She Said" - (5:25) 133 BPM
Sosak - "Empire" - (5:38) 131 BPM
Review: It's hard to believe that Gary Beck's techno has been around for a decade, and helping him to blow out the candles is a star-studded line up. First up is Chicago legend DJ Rush collaborating with the label owner to deliver the stomping ghetto techno of "Talkers". Sunčica Bari?ić aka Insolate delivers a more European-focused sound on the atmospheric, tone-laden "He Said, She Said". Changing focus again, Slam's version of JX-216's "Xingu" is a visceral peak-time affair that resounds to discordant riffs, while on Mark Broom's "Red Line", an insistent organ and firing percussion, similar to Floorplan's style, is audible. Hopefully it's the first of many birthday celebrations.

JX-216 - "Time Eaters" - (6:19) 134 BPM
Review: The Bek Audio anniversary celebrations continue apace with this fine second volume. First up is PTTRN with the percussive, drum-heavy "180621 S61.1", which is every bit as purist as its title suggests. Label owner Gary Beck takes the tempo up a notch with the rolling groove and snappy percussion of "Disgraced Loon" - but smart vocal snatches and chord stabs ensure that it doesn't veer into banging sameness. Petter B's "Second Day" approaches intensity from a different angle, thanks to the use of shimmering woozy chords, while on "Patterns", a collaboration between Beck and Alan Fitzpatrick, melodies also make an appearance - although on this occasion they flit in and out of the duo's steely drums and crisp percussion.

Defekt - "Sini Star" - (4:01) 132 BPM
Review: Bloody Mary celebrates the tenth anniversary of her Dame Music imprint with this 303-focused compilation. Veteran techno producer Thomas Heckmann drops the tough, peak time "Fluffy Fingers" and Tim Taylor's "Fear of Acid" is a visceral analogue banger. Meanwhile, on "Acid Ring", Tin Man delivers a harder than usual version of his 303-driven style while on "Metal Rain", Cardopusher takes inspiration from ebm to craft a bleak track that wouldn't sound out of place on a Hacker EP. The compilation also shines a light on Bloody Mary's own production skills, and her contribution, "Reclaim", is an expansive acid groover that has echoes of classic Underground Resistance.

10 Years Of Exotic Chapter 2
Hans Berg - "Sparks" - (7:16) 133 BPM
Review: Polish deep house imprint Exotic Refreshment continues on with their 10 year celebrations. After a great first volume featuring Haft, Malbetrieb and Palliate, we have the latter, again - presenting the indeed 'exotic' "The Wu" which features some hypnotic polyrhythms beneath woozy synths and other eerie elements. Married Israeli couple Dangur & Mintz team up on the moody dancefloor drama of "Refreshment" which is a tunneling progressive house styled groove that will appeal to fans of Bedrock as much as it would Life & Death. Speaking of the latter, there's some brooding dancefloor drama of that very style on offer with fellow countryman Itay Dailes' "Stand Up" sure to cause some suspense filled and strobe-lit moments on the dancefloor. Elsewhere, Hans Berg pitches a right curveball at us with the furious rave mutation of "Sparks", which is powered by some monstrous breaks and ravey sounds on this reinterpretation of mid '90s dance music.

This is a pretty outstanding achievement, for a label that is still at the forefront of it's sound to this very day. The compilation of course features some of the biggest releases from across the breadth of Four40's incredible catalogue of content, from the likes of Hybrid Theory, I Killed Kenny, Pavv, Limita and more, condensing ten years of musical progression into one extended tape. We also get to hear a bag of exciting new exclusives from the newer breed of the Four40 roster, including music from The Phat Controlla, Blakk Habit, Lucas Maverick, Gemi, Badger, Patrick Kane, Yozhi, George IV and more. The Air installment features four beat scientists presenting diverse musings on deep diving techno, kicking off with the hypnotic, cyclical "Meandering Rivers" by Kaelan. JC meanwhile spices things up with the breakbeat roughness of "The Jaunt Track" before Basic Soul Unit lays the smack down with the bruising broken techno of "Escape Velocity". Review: Jaunt Records' 10 year celebrations are spanning a series of releases that feature a broad spectrum of artists searching for the ultimate deep techno fix. The four contenders that occupy this Sea release all have their own agenda, but they sit together perfectly. Hiver weaves illustrious pads in between nimble electro drums and bubbling acid bass, while Artefakt creates eerie, fractured acid meanderings to send a shiver down your spine. Hinode does some deft break choppage to create a dreamy trip for the up all night crew, and then Region rolls the record out on an emotive tip while keeping the rhythm section pumped up for the floor.
