Review: Al Matthews continues with his explorations into harsh, abrasive and retro influenced techno with this new release on Overlee Assembly, channeling the old school vibes of R&S and Djax Up Beats. There's the original of "Static Renegade" with its mental melody and 909 drums thumping and hissing all over the place like an old Jeff Mills cut, but its Perc's remix with its relentless overdriven kick and distorted snares that really hammers the message home. "Indra" is a nice slow burner with a brooding hoover bass, as is "Quango (The Cobble) with its equally wacky bassline and reductionist aesthetic perfect for opening sets.

Review: Leeds based Bleaching Agent has been making a racket over at Opal Tapes, Komisch, Overlee Assembly and more in his time, but this appearance on Reposition marks the first we've heard from him in a while. The mood on "Free Fere Fer Fe" is boisterous but dynamic, while "Albeni" is more sharply chiselled. "To Tu Ti Tl H" switches gears with a reduced weirdo disco thrust that could do some serious damage. The D-56M remix of "Free Fere Fer Fe" is a bold reimagining as a trancey industrial deviation with a workable pulse.

Review: Headlining the second release from the fledging Resin label - which takes the form of a various artists EP - is the dynamic Bleaching Agent, whose track "Akplenc" sees the UK artist thros down a stubborn 4/4 beat and let his synths run wild as if possessed. Of the three other names to appear Pris is the most familiar, having supplied the label with its debut. Like that first EP, "Pencil Pusher" is dry, dusty and stripped back, while Divided provides something halfway between a Developer production and a Deadbeat dub. Closing the EP is Manse whose first effort "Slacker" sounds like someone writing a CV to release on Oscar Mulero's Pole Group or Ostgut Ton: big.

Review: Bleak has put out a series of EPs for DJ Deep's Deeply Rooted House label, and now turns his attention to Dutch institution Delsin. 'Subject Target' is the more understated of the two tracks on offer, with a dense, drummy groove underscored by skipping beats and a dreamy, somewhat lethargic chord sequence. There's a radically different approach on "Sixteen Crude"; Bleak sets course with an acid line and clicky percussion that spirals and builds, powered on by resonating, steely drums and a dramatic, sweeping synth. Like his work for DJ Deep, Chaos marks out Bleak as one of contemporary techno's most promising new producers.

Review: Bleak has put out a series of high-quality EPs for Deeply Rooted House, and now he proves his worth for fledgling label Animal Farm. "Synonym" is a dark, driving affair, its heavy percussion providing the basis for a warbling acid line. "Mynonys" on the other hand is a deep chord-driven track, with shaking percussion and evil bleeps leading the way. Animal Farm has also commissioned high-quality remixes; Deepbass turns in a stripped back take on "Synonym", Quail drops metallic riffs and a series of airy break downs to reinvent "Mynonys", and the Lamb take on the same track is a rolling, chord-heavy affair.
