Review: Rising Sun aka Steffen Laschinski drops a deep, dubbed out EP for the storied Echocord label. Drawing on ambient and dub techno influences, he delivers an introspective, atmospheric release. Half-heard vocal samples drift through the gentle textures of "Eternal 4", while a similar approach applies on the deep techno without beats of "Eternal 1". On "Eternal 3", there is a semblance of a groove, but it is quickly submerged in dubbed out sound scapes. However, Laschinski does hit a dance floor groove pace on "Eternal 5", delivering a rolling, spaced out techno track tailor made for Echocord's audience.

This three-track EP serves as a sonic tour through the artist's signature sound, offering familiar flavors with a fresh twist. The journey begins with "Diamonds," a trance-like track that lives up to its name. Lush soundscapes shimmer and sweet vocals float effortlessly, creating a silky atmosphere. This is Babicz at his most serene, crafting a piece that's both hypnotic and deeply relaxing. Keeping the mood mellow, gentle grooves and subtle melodies weave together in "Smooth Operator", living up to its name. The EP takes a sharp turn with "Confusion," a stark contrast to the previous tracks. This experimental piece serves as a masterclass in sound manipulation, crafted entirely from white noise.

Review: Never let it be said that Robert Hood is letting his listeners languish in a sonic comfort zone. The veteran producer's latest EP under his own name starts with a jolt, as the title track deploys pounding, industrial drums and a chain metal rhythm. "Pathetic" is just as intense. Based on a relentless groove, it sees Hood deploy a spiralling chord sequence that filters its way to a spine-tingling finale. "Outsider" is based on a similar premise, but this time hollowed out drums support a niggling build. This release effortlessly shatters the assumption that Hood would continue to focus on the less abrasive, house-influenced Floorplan project.
