Review: Acid house in sound but punk in nature, the title of Paranoid London's new album is a reference to "the cavalcade of c***s we find ourselves surrounded by". However, while there is despair there is also hope, and this long player is testament to the power of underground music. Arseholes...also demonstrates the importance of collaboration. Bobby Gillespie croons his way through the gentle tones of "People (Ah Yeah)". At the other end of the sonic spectrum, Joe Love and DJ Genesis feature on the gnarly, 303-led grooves of "Love One Self" and "Up Is Down" respectively. Somewhere between these polar opposites sits the evocative Chicago house sound of "Start To Fade" with Josh Caffe and Mutado Pintado's sonorous vocals on the pulsating "The Motion". Paranoid London proves yet again that when confronted by a***holes, music really is the only answer.

Review: Following the release of his latest artist album, Laurent Garnier has commissioned an exemplary set of remixes. Drawing on a group of emerging producers, this collection moves right across the musical spectrum. Works Of Intent's take on "Reviens La Nuit" is a dramatic, deep techno track that swirls and builds seductively. Remaining in esoteric mode, Voltaire's version of "Tales from the Real World" is an atmospheric electro roller. In contrast, 22Carbone drops a smoky hip-hop take of "In Your Phase". Avision focuses on the dance floor for a dense, looped techno interpretation of "Le Swing Du Pouleto" and a droning, hypnotic version of "Liebe Grusse Aus Cucuron". Each remix makes for a compilation that's as varied as Garnier's multifaceted DJ style.

Review: Laurent Garnier, Scan X, and Oliver Way's COD3 QR label remains fresh as ever with a new various artist release that brings eleven hand picked cuts from the likes of Bel Air Ltd., Tal Fussman and Jules Wells to Alex Troniq, Fanu, Voltaire, Carlos Nilmmns and Inner Ray! Lead cut "City Lights" kicks off with some deep and melancholic bassline house next to some moody techno reminiscent of early Ben Klock in "10247". "The Clap" delivers some footwork inspirations next to some spookier electro wares in "Neophile" - banging. "Pisecean" gets all breakbeat and new age in the mix alongside some warehouse techno in "Regular Disturbances" alongside some melodic 'Mathew Johnson' inspired sounds in "Old Paris". Closing out the EP is "What" - a British Murder Boys-esque slice of Middle Eastern themed gothic EBM.

Review: Given the rise in popularity of Dance Mania-inspired ghetto-house and ghetto-tech releases over the last couple of years, it was perhaps inevitable that someone would put together a compilation celebrating the label's greatest moments. That it was Strut that did it with Dance Mania Hardcore Traxx: Dance Mania Records 1986-1997 was something of a comfort; Quinton Scott's crate-digging imprint does these kind of history-driven compilations so well. Dance Mania: Ghetto Madness is a second trawl through the archives of the label and features some fifteen cuts of little-known or hard-to-find tracks from the likes of DJ Funk, Paul Johnson, DJ Rush, Jammin' Gerald and Wax Master Maurice (whose bizarre but brilliant "Bounce That Body" is a highlight).

Review: If alien, otherworldly club workouts with an exotic and intoxicating twist set your pulse racing, you need Thomas Jacksson's latest EP in your life. For proof, check opener 'Belgian UFO Wave', where progressively more psychedelic and intense 'acid' motifs and trippy, post-bleep electronic melodies dance atop a raw, stabbing bassline and hypnotic, locked-in beats. Or, for that matter, the hallucinatory electronic riffs, restless beats and mind-mangling TB-303 lines of 'Young Woman in Kashmir'. The intoxicating, enveloping early morning darkness continues on the weirder and more bass heavy 'Aphex Twinkie', while 'Back In Guadalajara' is a moody and stomping workout that subtly builds in waves.

Review: Returning to Damien Lazarus' Crosstown Rebels label, Jonathan Kaspar presents his latest EP, "We Come", delving into melodic techno realms. With prior contributions to other major indies like Cocoon and Kompakt, Kaspar's signature confidently navigates a big room, dubby trance, and crunchy electro sound with straight up house inspirations. Resisting easy classification, Kaspar weighs up his genres, taking in "Flash Point" as a standout track, with ducking and distortion, plus sidechain, central to the mix here next to some lovely syncopated stabs Additionally, Paul Brenning's rendition of "Transposed Sky" deserves some close attention for its unique flip treatment. Review: In the words of Fatboy Slim 'everybody needs a 303', but few people can meet this need better than Thee Mike B. On the title track, the LA DJ/producer drops a searing, gurgling 303 as the backdrop for a hazy, frazzled tale about real-life acid indulgence. Lubelski's version is more linear and dancefloor-focused, with the 303 lines woven into a chord-heavy, niggling techno rhythm. Meanwhile, Salva veers in an electro direction for the second remix, with crisp break beats and shuffling 808s providing the basis for a combination of dazed vocals and raw acid lines. If you emerge with your sanity intact, there's also a tripped out acapella to contend with.

Review: Freaks & Beaks was Claude Von Stroke's last artist album, released in autumn 2020 at a time when the world was grappling with the impact of the pandemic. Now, two years later, with clubs and festivals re-opened, Dirtybird drops dance floor-primed remixes of tracks from the long player. The VNSSA remix of "These Notes In This Order" is a tough, pulsating slice of techno, while in contrast, for the reshape of "Youngblood", Rodriguez Jr. drops a stripped back, bleep-heavy workout. Nikki Nair has shot to prominence over the past few years, and this version of "Flubblebudd" shows why - based on a frequency shifting sub-bass, it's a distinctive electro track. Frankie also delivers a fine, off beat minimal take on "Frankie Goes To Bollywood".

Review: Denis A is a Moscow-based producer whose previous efforts have appeared on top labels like Bedrock or DAR, and he rather boldly claims that he is the founder of musical style known as 'hypnoteric'. The SPACE Moscow club musical director and resident serves up some surefire arsenal for the peak time on his new Quartet EP - which lunges straight for the jugular from the first beat. From the tension and suspense of the title track, that serves up some epic dancefloor drama straight off the bat - complete with hypnotic melody and glacial atmospherics throughout. It then receives and absolutely barrelling rework by ascendant Japanese producer Drunken Kong, who gives it the proper Drumcode treatment of old - this one is expertly executed for the peak time if we have ever heard it! Second original offering "Iceland" goes down a more progressive route on this slinky and hypnotic trance-inducer that is perfect to take down the energy on the dancefloor - when the morning sun starts to appear through the blinds.

Review: Formerly one half of acclaimed duo Footprintz, Clarian North has really come into his own since flying solo, with some terrific releases over the last few years on Turbo, Balance Music and of course Kompakt - Time Safari being his third release for the Cologne based institution in only a mere couple of years. The EP was said to be a two year long process, from recordings made in South Africa with collaborators Richard Marshall and Blane Venter along with many locals along the way. From the futuristic, electro-influenced groove of the title track, the hypnotic and enchanting tech house of "Ancient Cave" awashed in shimmering delightful melodies to epic closer "Early Life", it's a sublime journey from start to finish.

Review: Los Lagos is Orb member Thomas Fehlmann's first solo album in eight years. Like his collaborations with Alex Patterson, it is a sprawling affair that sees the veteran producer head "wherever my heart drives me". This approach yields a multiple of different directions; there's the scuffled, offbeat techno of "Lowenzahnzimmer" and "Triggerism"; the jerky, jazzy "Window" and the digital dub on "Morrislouis". The album also sees Fehlmann team up with Max Loderbauer, another long-term collaborator, to create the jarring, stepping "Tempelhof". At the other end of the spectrum, his creativity focuses on sun-kissed abandon articulated on the effervescent, layered groove that is "Freiluft" - the most impressive embodiment of the freewheeling approach that pervades Los Lagos.

Review: Dream House was released last year by acclaimed German duo Kristian Beyer & Martin Wiedermann aka Ame to much acclaim. The splendid tracks that comprised this evocative home listening journey are now remixed by some of the scene's top names and aimed squarely at the main room dancefloor. On Part I, we have Berlin-based artist (and Keinemusik main man) Rampa take "No War" deep into the exotic, in dreamy and majestic fashion, while Diynamic chief Solumun delivers two versions of "The Line" - Frank's Vote being a vibrant neon-lit perspective with an '80s influence, while Kristian's Vote has a more ethereal deep house vibe full of sweeping layers of arpeggio.

We were really feeling Artist Code 414C4D's slinky and hypnotic "El Dia De La Pantera", the moody and epic dancefloor drama of Artist Code 4D422E on "Liquid Room" as well as the deep late night mood music of Artist Code 414C46 & Artist Code 524F43's "In Da Hood" (extended mix), the dystopian electro battle beats of Artist Code 4D5452 on "Verum Verbum" and the spiritual life music of Artist Code 505241's "Get A Life Back".

Review: Oliver Huntemann's Senso Sounds label out Hamburg drops its best frequencies of the year for its annual round up. Large, heavy and progressive as f***, Andre Winter & Heerhorst go deep in "Time-Out", next to the likes of Marco Resmann, Citizen Kain and Timo Maas! The always groovy Timid Boy lands with the stripped back "The Force 2020" alongside Carlo Ruetz' synth heavy "Purple Sky" and Maksim Dark's bassline-centric "Energize". Huntemann himself turns in a minimal beat turned arpeggio-driven epic in "Tranquilizer 2.0" with Raul Facio, BOHO and Frankyeffe keeping it real with their stadium/club-ready numbers. Review: Well isn't this a marvellous meeting: progressive house legend turned techno's dark lord Dubfire collaborating the pioneer of dark journey tracks (long before the Life & Death crew): the man from Bremen and Senso boss Oliver Huntemann. The dynamic duo team up for "Humano" where some ping pong delayed tom drums drenched in reverb create tunnelling trance induction atop of a slinky tech house groove; druggy dancefloor drama indeed! There's also some killer remixes on offer. Brazil's Victor Ruiz serves up his absolutely bangning peak time rendition while American producer Shaded's "Summer Skin Remix" certainly honours the trademark sound of both producers on this seething and slow burning dancefloor journey guaranteed to cause a headrush or two!

Review: Helmed by veteran German DJ Oliver Huntemann out of harbour city of Hamburg , Senso Sounds is undoubtedly the go-to label at present for the more dramatic and brooding side of contemporary techno. We have heard strong evidence of this thanks to recent efforts by fellow countrymen Andre Winter, Carlo Ruetz and Distale - but it's now over to Los Angeleno Shaded. The man from Newport Beach is no stranger to the label, with several releases thus far in addition to great appearances for Rukus, Turbo and SCI+TEC. Prepare to surrender to the void upon hearing "Ripple" with its high octane and tunnelling aesthetic, while "Sumbody" goes full throttle with its hypnotic and adrenalised style of druggy groove.
