Review: Based in Hamburg, TAU is a label started in 2018 by Benjamin Busse and Friso Traas aka Adana Twins, that has released tracks by scene heroes such as Glowal, Echonomist, The Cheapers and many more. The label presents their second instalment in the 'Spektrum' various artists sampler, which features top shelf material by the likes of: Southern Italian duo Underspreche who deliver the entrancing pizzicato inflected vibes of "My Beloved", German veteran Ruede Hagelstein delivering impeccable dancefloor drama as always on "Aschera", ascendant Berliners Local Suicide teaming up with Duro main man Theus Mago on the dark disco odyssey "Technican" and Watergate's sound engineer in residence Biesmans, who provides yet more successful efforts in his newfound love of music production on the neon-lit Italo acid energy of "Wild Wild World".

Enzo Elia & Aldebaran - "Low Red" (feat Quique) - (5:37) 121 BPM
Enzo Elia & Aldebaran - "Low Red" (instrumental) - (5:37) 121 BPM
Aj Squinza - (7:17) 121 BPM Hot
Volpinata - (7:31) 121 BPM
Review: Enzo Elia, who has put out on Hell Yeah and Freerange, delivers a killer debut for Kompakt. Teaming up with Aldebaran for production and Quique on vocals, "Low Red" is a blistering, moody electro cut that resonates to a frazzled bass and atmospheric synths. On the flip, with Elia flying in solo mode, "AJ Squinza" focuses on a more typical Kompakt cut, with high-frequency bleeps building over a pulsating, electronic disco groove. Remaining in similar territory but beefing up the bass, Elia drops "Volpinata", where mysterious synths twist and turn their way over a heads-down slightly tougher bass. It's not the last we're likely to hear of Elia's association with Kompakt.

Burn-In
Schloss - (8:53) 123 BPM
Paroxetin - (8:32) 122 BPM Hot
Feudal - (8:23) 123 BPM
Review: It was never the most fashionable sound, but Burn-In suggests that in some places, trance is making a stealthy comeback. It's important to note thought that this is not the 140bpm, hands in the air variant. Dating back to the early 90s, Italy boasted a coalescing of house, trance and techno. It is this heritage that Elia, best known for his releases on Hell Yeah, draws on for this debut EP on Multinotes. "Schloss" is an atmospheric, cosmic affair that sees Elia and collaborator IMGL wave epic synths over a teased out metallic groove, while on "Paroxetin", they deliver a somewhat more eerie take on this fusion. Finally, "Feudal" rounds off this idiosyncratic release with the pair also delving into Italo and wave influences for a brooding, bass-heavy groove.

Speicher 102
Enzo Elia - "Gothic Safari" - (7:09) 122 BPM Hot
La Marine - "Flash" - (6:40) 120 BPM
Animal Print - "The Last Night Of Laura Palmer" - (6:46) 127 BPM
Review: Following up a powerful EP in the series' last edition by Brazilian superstar ANNA, Kompakt's Speicher imprint returns with more surefire techno to energise the dancefloor on edition 102. Longtime friends turned studio companions, Enzo Elia (of Balearic Gabba Soundsystem fame) and Musumeci join forces for the first time on "Gothic Safari" and indeed it's quite the nefarious journey, full of tension and suspense and perfect for dancefloor drama. Newcomer from Grenoble La Marine delivers the hypnotic minimal tech-house of "Flash," calling to mind the sounds of Dominik Eulberg or Andre Kraml from the mid-noughties. More mysterious faire awaits you on Animal Print's "The Last Night Of Laura Palmer" - a dose of brooding, Bolivian darkwave theatrics, borrowing from EBM, Italo and techno all at the same time.

Drifting (dub) - (6:24) 125 BPM
Review: His music productions can be found on labels like Free Range, Golf Channel, Engrave, Compost Records and Hell Yeah Recordings. He is Enzo Elia and he's crafted his own style of producing that has taken him all over Europe as well as to Tokyo and Tel Aviv. This new one's for Jimpster's always impressive Freerange imprint where he serves up "Drfiting" and what a fitting title it is for this sublime and ethereal journey track. Woven from a rich tapestry of rich synthesizer work, comprised of soaring arpeggios, atmospheric pads and lush sound design over a steady beat. It also gets a wicked remix by man of the moment: Tel Aviv's mighty Moscoman who turns the track into his usual cosmo-indie-punk-funk thing and is wonderful as always.

Balearic Gabba Edits 4
Hypno (Enzo Elia Barini edit) - (8:10) 123 BPM
Psycho (Enzo Elia That Morning edit) - (6:16) 115 BPM Hot
So I Want To Say (Ta Ta Ta) (Enzo Elia Ultradubabbestia edit) - (8:51) 117 BPM
Review: On his Balearic Gabba Edits series, Enzo Elia is redefining the notion of Balearica. Or, more specifically, taking eccentric source material (in the case of this EP, two proto-trance records by Psycho Team, and an oddball chunk of mid-90s Italian house by Endangered People) and reworking it into something much more Balearic. Not that you could say that "So I Want To Say (Ta Ta Ta)" was particularly Balearic; in fact, Elia's version sounds like proto-trance. This is particularly ironic since the two versions here of Italian proto-trance gems bear little resemblance to the originals. Both, however, are fabulous; the wide-eyed bliss of "Psycho" is only bettered by a piano laden, '89-style breakbeat techno take on "Hypno".
