Review: Consisting of original productions by Solee, remixes for close colleagues and a few tracks by associated artists, Night Shift goes through a number of styles. "Oasis" and "Aragorn" are based on tough house beats and lead into trancey climaxes thanks to Solee's eerie synths, while "Dubtale" is a lighter, disco house affair. At the other end of the spectrum, Solee delivers an oppressive bass version of Goodspeed 's "Stage Whisper". But if there is a common theme, it's a love of trancey melodies and epic builds - audible on Solee's neon trance meets slinky acid version of Nick Warren's "Flowers" and John Tejada's woozy chord building reshape of Solee's "Legends".

Review: Few dance producers do melodies like Brazilian Gui Borratto, and these versions of Paralelo are in keeping with his uplifting approach . The Solee remix sees spacey, breathy chords build over a splurging acid bass and the includion of a spacey filter means that it strikes a perfect balance between depth, trippiness and dance floor appeal. The Oliver Schories version is more upfront, with its hissing percussion and nagging bass creating a darker mood, which is in turn augmented by chilling strings. Finally, the Boss Axis version sees a return of sorts to Borratto's melodic sound, as chiming bells and a surging, humming bass compete for the listener's attention.

Review: As far as album titles go, III isn't imaginative, but it is Boratto's most diverse album. There are still traces of the Brazilian producer's sound of yore, especially on "Stems From Hell", where a mournful melody is expertly teased and played out over a minimal groove or on the grainy, fist-pumping bassline of "The Drill". For the most part though, it marks a departure for him. "Galuchat" is an excellent low-slung, atmospheric house track, "The Third" sounds like his attempt to make an ambient lullaby and at the other end of the emotional spectrum is "Striker" a Gothic, rumbling bass workout. Best of all though is album closer "This Is Not The End": featuring Luciana Villanova on vocals, it's a beautiful indie song -surely it'll guarantee Boratto his deserved place in the pop charts?

Review: As its predecessors had done, this latest instalment in Kompakt's annual compilation series gives a good snapshot of where the label's at in the summer of 2011. There's the usual mixture of melodic ambient pop, techno club hits, shuffling deep house and expansive electronica, with familiar favourites (Michael Mayer's brilliant remix of WhoMadeWho, GusGus's "Over", Matias' Aguayo's lo-fi dance-rock groover "I Don't Smoke") being joined by a smattering of unreleased cuts. Highlights come thick and fast, with Superpitcher's previously unheard "White Lightning", Jargen Paape's dream-like "Pray" and Mohn's slo-mo wonk-fest "Tiefnatal" most impressing. If you're after a high quality collection of emotion-rich, cutting-edge electronic music, look no further.

Review: Trust the Brazilians to give tech-house a sexy makeover. This eighth (count 'em) compilation from Sao Paulo's Lo Kik Records is about as sensual and fun as tech-house gets. It's full to bursting with the sort of gently uplifting, tech-tinged grooves that offer a sunnier alternative to the 'by numbers' fare often served up by European labels. The artists involved are hardly household names - Paolo Mojo is about the most famous - but that almost adds to the excitement.
