Review: Manchester's Jozef K (Firehouse/Last Night On Earth/Chiwax/Acid Test) remains one of the UK's resolute talents, proven by over two decades of experience as a DJ/producer. He lands on W&O Street Tracks with "Ain't Scared Of U Mothaz", joining the dots between New York and Chicago with Todd Torry style stabs (sure to get the hands in the air), backed by a lowdown tom- driven percolator jack in the vein of classic Cajmere - and that cheeky monologue atop! Backed with a remix from Chicago's Alinka (Twirl), as well as the sensual deepness of "Gotta Have U" (ft. Jade Parker) and the bittersweet/emotive vibes of "Walked On Water/Ran Through Fire".

Review: Jozef K doesn't perhaps get the props he deserves, despite a lengthy career and an extensive discography that includes killer cuts on such labels as Chiwax, Let's Play House and Skint. He's in prime form on this two-tracker, which not only marks his first release of 2021, but also his debut on Tensnake's True Romance label. Title track 'Ichika' is simply brilliant, with the frequent Winter Son collaborator wrapping an energetic, sub-heavy groove in effortlessly dreamy chords and the kind of wonderfully emotive, undulating synthesizer lead lines that sound particularly potent when the sun is rising above, or sinking below, the horizon. In contrast, 'Play' is a touch quicker and more intergalactic in tone, with delay-laden drum fills and spacey chords catching the ear.

Review: Throughout his career to date, Jozef K has been a serial collaborator, releasing a string of well-received EPs in cahoots with regular studio buddy Winter Son. It's notable then, that this first outing for Tensnake's True Romance label sees him on a solo mission. It's a rather fine EP, all told, with opener "Sunshine Music (featuring Lauraell)" brilliantly wrapping swirling, filtered instrumentation and drowsy vocal samples around a tough but atmospheric rhythm track laden in well-placed delay and reverb effects. Elsewhere, "Within My Soul" sees the producer brilliantly build energy via fizzing, effects-laden string stabs and jacking drum fills, "Paris NYC" is a fluttering deep house/French touch fusion and "You Should Have Said Goodbye" is a warm and hypnotic trip into classic U.S deep house territory.

Review: Joseph Kindred aka Jozef K follows the recent Devotion release on Pfeiffer with this stand out slab of Chicago-related house. On the title track, an unnamed narrator explains the origins of the city's house sound over a fittingly lo-fi drum track that is laced with warbling 303s. "Shanghai Stone Sorcerer" is just as tripped out, with Kindred fusing acid lines with crisp break beats and a hedonistic sample urging listeners to 'open your mind'. Lauren Flax has been tasked with reworking the title track, and under her influence, it morphs into a wonderfully deep, wigged out techno track.

Review: Having spent much of the first four years of his career collaborating with pal Winter Son, Jozef K finally made his solo debut in late 2017. Since then, he's served up polished individual productions on Viva Music, True Romance and, with this tasty two-tracker, Pfeiffer. We can imagine plenty of DJs spinning "Devotion", this EP's opening cut. A spine-tingling, piano-heavy rub that seemingly doffs a cap to two old school classics (Nomad's "Devotion" and Inner City's "Good Life"), the track bubbles along before ratcheting up the madness via heavy sub-bass, sweaty vocal samples and punchy blasts of hip-house style breakbeats. Jozef K indulges his penchant for life-affirming piano riffs further on "Anti-Star System", an unfussy, retro-futurist house treat built around a suitably epic breakdown midway through.

Review: The work of a UK duo, "May The Lord Have Mercy..." is the kind of deep, evocative house tune that could easily cross over. Layered chords envelop the driving rhythm and doubled up claps, while eerie chants hover gradually into earshot. It's like Patrice Scott with a twist of 90s prog drama. "Like Falling Angels" is cut from a similar cloth only on this occasion the synths are darker and more menacing, but the same driving rhythm and rattling percussion prevail. Luke Hess gets to grips with the title track, plunging it into a blacked out dub space illuminated only by acid flecks, while Basic Soul Unit turn "Like Falling Angels" into trippy, jacking affair, littered with chopped up vocals and repetitive synth stabs.

Review: As a producer, Mancunian Joseph Kindred's records have been played by Jackmaster, Dubfire, Joris Voorn, Maya Jane Coles and countless others. To top that, he's released across labels such as Acid Test, True Romance, VIVa and now this brand new scorcher on Sasha's Last Night On Earth. Mind the dramatic title, "By Love They Will Quench The Fires Of Hate" is quite a fitting one for this epic serving of dancefloor drama - equal parts tension and suspense. This is followed by the slinky and hypnotic journey down the spiral that is "Forgotten Angel" (original mix) which also receives a stellar rework by Lossless boss Mathias Schober - his Bass Tool remix optimised for DJ use and goes properly deep.
