Review: Irish producer Mark Laird is the latest rising star to contribute to Shall Not Fade's excellent Killer Cuts series. Random is perhaps not as skittish as the title suggests, but the EP is certainly an eclectic affair. He begins in energetic and confident fashion via the stomping ghetto-house-meets-DJ-Mujave goodness of 'Bet', before blending Todd Edwards style garage and Dance Mania heaviness on 'I Just Wanna'. '4 Cruisin' is a lusciously glassy-eyed chunk of retro-futurist deep house headiness, while 'Woosh' is a seriously great slab of two-step/rave-era piano-house fusion. 'Ghetto Booty', an entertaining bounce through DJ Sneak territory full of bumpin' beats, nagging organ stabs and weighty bass, completes an excellent package.
