Review: Midnight Riot's ongoing 'Disco Made Me Do It' compilation series reaches volume seven. Like its' predecessors, the 20-track set prioritises fun and frolics, blurring the boundaries between disco, electrofunk, nu-disco and house via a mixture of unreleased cuts, high-grade remixes, exclusives and familiar favourites. There's naturally tons to get the blood pumping throughout, with the many highlights including Opolopo's deliciously squelchy, sun-soaked and soulful take on Danny Kane and Princess Freesia's 'I Love The Way You Do', Yam Who's fantastic, early '80s disco style rework of Bazza Ranks and Venessa Jackson's 'Talk Is Cheap', the synth-heavy nu-disco perfection of Sammy Deuce's 'Give Me Love', and the low-slung, party-starting brilliance of Brothers In Arts' 'We Got The Funk', featuring the distinctive vocals of Freakpower's Ashley Slater.

Review: Few can touch Natasha Kitty Katt when it comes to tuff, strutty disco-tech, but last year's 'Kosmic Oscillations' brought us a glimpse of her deeper side. On this remix package, Ali Aitken funks things up and adds a spoken male hypnobabble vocal, Dexter Jones's Cosmic Glue Mix takes us to the disco/souful house borders, while the Nite Owl Remix is a smoother ride that leans towards the melodic side of things. All three are plenty playable, but the standout for this writer is the deep, throbbing Antenna! Ghetto Disco Mix, which features what appears to be a sampled interview with Ms Kitty Katt herself.

Review: Glitterbox fave drops two tracks of solid gold disco action on Ghetto Disco, the Edinburgh-based label she runs with her father Dennis Probert. Re-edits are Ghetto Disco's stock-in-trade, so that's presumably what these are, though the original source material isn't clear. But what we can tell you is that 'Twisted Katt' is an unhurried, chugging affair that sports a looping female chorus, as well a snatch of male vocal from Bohannon's 'Me And The Gang', while the accompanying 'Cosmic Bitch' is a very serviceable slice of Joey Negro-esque disco house topped with some killer strings.

Review: Glasgow's Shaka Loves You has rightly earned a reputation as disco-centric duo on the rise. Because of this, it's little surprise to see them at the controls on Bomb Strikes' first foray into the disco-focused compilation market. The Scottish pair have naturally pulled out all the stops for the occasion, selecting 20 hot-to-trot cuts that aptly blur the boundaries between disco, funk, nu-disco, electro and boogie. Highlights include, but are in no way limited to, the hazy, sun-kissed soul of Lack of Afro's "Back To The Day", the thickset P-funk revivalism of Kraak & Smaak's "Dynamite" and the rubbery disco-house-meets-UK soul flex of the Reflex's remix of Omar's "Vicky's Tune". Throw in a tasty selection of the pair's productions and you have a suitably strong collection.
