Review: Weapons Of Desire kick off what is presumably a new series of various artist releases under the Machine Funk banger, and do so with a right royal collection of dance music punks. Drvg Cvltvre, for example, is a Dutchman who makes dirt, sleaze and noise an art form in his techno tracks, and the brilliantly brainless 'I Hate Thinking' is proof of that. UK hardware lover Perseus Traxx also brings plenty of lo-fi brilliance to his 'Hi-Tech', while Rennie Foster's 'Deposition Acid' achieves some hypnotic brilliance with the 303. Add in more rough and ready excellence from Type-303 and Bad Outfit and you have a hefty EP.

Review: Canada's Rennie Foster isn't afraid to break new ground - he's already bravely pushed saxophone acid for example. Here he's moved on to retro hip-house, with the classic mix of "Do It Like Hip Hop" fusing 90s organ-bass house (think Robin S) with vintage interview clips of rappers explaining themselves. It's a potent mix that lends itself to a more thoughtful dancefloor experience. Electro-house producer Spiltmilk, rolls up with a stripped back 4/4 version with some pretty squelchy low-end.

Review: What better way to celebrate a decade in business than by getting Chicago deep house legend Larry Heard to select and mix a double-disc compilation of label highlights? Hats off, then, to Rebirth, who managed to persuade Mr Fingers himself to deliver his first commercially available DJ mix. As you'd expect from both label and DJ, it's a wonderfully atmospheric and melodious affair, with Heard selecting and blending emotion-rich tracks and mixes from Chromatic Filters, Bocca Grande, NuFrequency, Tevo Howard, Motor City Drum Ensemble and James Teej. The first disc, in which Heard races through 28 tracks in just over 70 minutes, is particularly memorable.

Review: How does a producer go about make the acid sound vital again? If you're Canadian artist Rennie Foster and new school house head Dan Shake, then you mix up squelchy 303s and resonating claps with a soaring sax solo, as they do on "Traders". The acid line becomes a low end blip on "Traders II" as Shake's glorious keys and yearning saxophone take centre stage. Foster has commissioned Samuel Session to remix the title track and the 'chord' mix is very much in the Swedish producer's usual style, with a pumping rhythm underscoring surging chord builds. However, on the 'trumpet' version, Session lets the sax squalls take hold and rounding off the release is Myles Serge's remix which has echoes of NWAQ's evergreen deep house track "Trespassers", where hypnotic chimes emerge through dense, filtered textures.
