Soul Seeker EP
Soul Seeker - (5:49) 134 BPM
Aural Singularity - (5:27) 131 BPM Hot
Paranoid Skyline - (5:45) 134 BPM
Psychotic Impact - (5:47) 134 BPM
Review: One of Planet Rhythm's most consistent emerging artists, Steve Parker returns to the label after 2022's X-2222. This four-tracker sees him cover a range of styles. The title track is a fast-paced, lean rhythm, featuring insistent chords and firing percussion. On "Aural Singularity", the focus changes as Parker goes deeper to conjure up a lush dub techno workout. While the tempo is slower, it remains an effective club track. "Paranoid Skyline" also embraces dubbed out soundscapes, but Parker fuses it with relentless percussion and swirling filters to ensure it packs a strong dance floor punch. "Psychotic Impact" is more linear and led by looped chords, demonstrating that when it comes to tough but soulful club techno, Parker has few peers.

X-2222 EP
MONOFUNCTIONAL (original mix) - (5:51) 133 BPM Hot
HYPERSPECTRAL - (6:04) 132 BPM
X-2222 - (5:22) 134 BPM
FLASHES - (5:41) 136 BPM
ALPHA WAVE (Digital Bonus) - (5:53) 133 BPM
Review: Planet Rhythms on a real roll right now and Steve Parker continues the legendary label's current fine form with this new and powerful four-track offering + a digital bonus. Parker is an exponent of classically inclined techno with subtle twists. 'Monofunctional' kicks off and is a hefty warehouse cut with dub weight and frazzled synth work warming up the frosty hi-hats. 'Hyperspectral' is urgent and tense with its tight synth loops and clipped, punchy drums. 'X-2222' is more edge-of-your-seat dark techno brilliance and 'Flashes' then lights up the rave with its synth stabs and rusted drum loops.

Review: 2020 is a year that many people will want to forget, but as this compilation shows, it was still a time of remarkably creativity. This is borne out by Regent's "Drama", a crystalline, tranced out groove, while in stark contrast, Vinicius Honorio's "Rock Da House" is a visceral jacking affair that has echoes of DJ Rush. In between these two ends of the spectrum are deadly effective club techno contributions from Yan Cook, with the turbo bass-led "Order and Steve Parker's acid-heavy "Resonate". Best Of also impresses by covering wide range of styles - as A.Paul's rolling "Incidence" and Re:Axis bleepy "Unveil" ably demonstrate.

Acid Machine EP
Acid Machine - (7:00) 130 BPM Hot
Planet E - (6:37) 128 BPM
The Prophet - (6:46) 130 BPM
Horns Of Jupiter - (5:11) 128 BPM
Singular Dimension - (4:09) 103 BPM
Review: The latest release on Odd Even mines the rich heritage of 90s techno. The work of Steve Parker, who has featured on household labels like Ovum and Synewave, it moves from the layered 303 builds of "Acid Machine" and "The Prophet" into the rolling, tribal drums of "Planet E" - which doesn't resemble material on Carl Craig's label. The brilliantly-named "Horns of Jupiter" sees the Portuguese artist deliver a tranced out jam, with echoes of early Music Man, while closing track "Singular Dimension" is the most impressive. Layered, droning soundscapes unravel in a majestic fashion, like the stellar ambience of Richie Hawtin's F.U.S.E project.

Jean Ramesse - "Jobby Noir" (Perc remix) - (7:47) 126 BPM
Review: Hans Bouffmyhre's label blows out five candles to the sound of this pounding, relentless compilation. In true Sleaze fashion, Audio Injection and Monoloc deliver hypnotic, driving grooves full of grinding noises and powered by rolling drums. Flug ventures further down the wormhole with "Inside Of My Brain Cells", a tunnelling, pulsing groove that re-defines 'heads down', while some of techno's most respected artists also contribute as remixers. Par Grindvik's take on Gary Beck's "Standing On My Foot" is a chord-heavy roller; DVS1 delivers a prowling bass-led interpretation of Billy Johnston & Gennaro Mastrantonio's "Space", while the best reshape comes from Perc. The UK producer re-imagines Jean Ramesse's "Jobby Noir" as a tight metallic stepper with the same kind of robotic charm as Forward Strategy Group's work for his Perc Trax label.
