Review: 14th Level Of Paradise bring us a four-tracker from Greek producer Konstantinos Vagias, better known as Costa Vaya. If it's bouncy, dancefloor-friendly deep house you're after, then look elsewhere: Vagias' speciality, at least on this evidence, lies in ultra-deep midtempo grooves that will be most at home in the warm-up or on the post-club sofa. The Detroit-tinged 'I Heard This' takes the gold for this reviewer, but the old school synth stabs on 'Nightwalk' also have a certain charm while 'Burning The Midnight Oil' itself could slot into deeper prog/melodic sets - think CD1 of a Digweed or Cattaneo mix comp.
Review: Las Vegas native Frank Richards has over 25 years' DJing experience, which no doubt explains how, though relatively new to production, he's done such a fine job here. A contender for this week's Does What It Says On Tin award, 'Disco Night...' opens with sprightly pianos redolent of early 90s Italo-house, then evolves into a chugging midtempo groove with a looped and heavily treated vocal cut-up, an organic-sounding bassline that funks away quite unassumingly below, and a breakdown with a spoken vocal to maintain the interest. It all adds up to a surprise gem that'd work on disco and deep house floors alike.
