Review: There's not been so much material from Lowtec in 2013, so this sizable delivery for Brainmath comes as a welcome treat for all fans of the wayward German producer. He's on unpredictable form as ever, with "Carbon Copy" matching his twitchy rhythmic tendencies with somewhat anthemic chord stabs. "Drone One" meanwhile uses cavernous reverb to create a sense of foreboding around punchy notes pealing out over an unshakable kick thud in a sparse track still weighty in its presence. "Silver" gets into a dystopian acid funk, while the vocal lick adds a UK flavour reminiscent of his work for Nonplus, and "Joni" heads for outer space with its cosmic electro rasp to ensure there's no shred of repetition across the EP.

Who Loves You
Who Loves You - (4:58)
Review: Ramp's Brain Math sublabel has been responsible for some of the more experimental takes on bass music over the past few years, and Canadian producer Kevin McPhee is a logical addition to the canon. Although only one track, "Who Loves You" more than makes its impression, with some dusty, subdued piano led beats and deep bass that recall James Blake and Airhead's contribution to the label.

Review: A super exclusive, one track only release from Brackles on the Brainmath imprint can do nothing but excite and intrigue any avid electronic music fan. Blending a garage sensibility with dubstep and a touch of UK funky, Brackles really hits the nail on the head with this one. A simple intro dominated by sweeping atmospherics, a delicate bleepy melody and thumping drum kicks gets the party started before the track develops into it's full embodiment, with swelling vocals, pattering beats, murming bassline and sci-fi SFX adding a bizarre background note. Get to know if you don't already.

Review: After the devastating techno excursion of his last outing on Hemlock, Untold slides up to Brainmath with this stand-alone cut of mutant rhythmic madness, once again demonstrating his power in subverting all around him. It's the kind of pared down broken beat that defined the initial upsurge of Hessle Audio output, as woody percussion and nutty sub bass plonk around with a spread of sonic decoration. The care taken in deploying these elements is plain to hear, as the fine detail blends into what comes on like a primal DJ tool for the next century.

Review: A much anticipated release from Ramp Recordings subsidiary, Brain Math, which brings together the best in limited edition vinyl releases from 2008-10 from a star-studded cast, including stunners from James Blake, Roska (under his Bakongo alias), Brackles and SBTRKT. "Paper Street" gets the ball rolling with a Burial-like air, and is juxtaposed against Brackles' infectious "6am El Gordos". "Pembroke" has that discernable Blakean style, complete with synth haze, distorted vox and clip-clop beats. "Laika" (SBTRKT's first release, don't you know?) adds a dose of mischief, before Spiders take things dark and murky, with eerie SFX a-plenty, and the compilation is rounded off with Zomby's "Rumours & Revelations".
