Review: Chowdown return here for an exciting fifth release here, as they bring forward the super experimental sounds of Architect for four tracks of potent pressure. We begin our journey on this one with a brass driven hip-hop exploration throughout the dramatic composition of '2AM', before diving into the more scattered drum switches of 'Spartan Laser' and almost moombahton inspired designs of 'Telekinesis', which adds a whole new spectrum of sounds to the release. As well as this, we are gifted an additional 'Cave' mix of Telekinesis', adding a more club element to the original creation.

Quinine
Plasma - (5:32) 140 BPM
Loosed - (4:06) 137 BPM Hot
Quinine - (4:53) 120 BPM
Gauntlet - (4:40) 120 BPM
Review: We were very hungry for another Chow Down seving, and how happy we were to see this brand new four track creation from Grizzle land in the store. We kick off with the explosive purple flavours and electric synthesis of 'Plasma', which combines grimey vocal slices and euphoric melodies to create something magical. Following this we have some more tasty ideas across the stripped back structure of 'Loosed' and the smooth, slightly slower harmonies of the title track 'Quinine'. We then finish up in real style across the stunning soundscapes and synth designs of 'Gauntlet', pushing the boat out even further into the wave genre.

Money Tree EP
Money Tree - (2:47) 140 BPM
JuJu - (2:52) 135 BPM
Speaker Bugs - (4:09) 140 BPM Hot
Grinding Tribe - (3:43) 140 BPM
Review: Ozwald touches down on Chow Down for the label's third EP to date, making this also the artist's this release since his debut last year. The vibe here is very much on a 'hybrid' tip, mashing up UK styles with a suave touch, never shy to push the boundaries of grime to their edges. The title track "Money Tree" is a wacky broken beat number with a funky, jazzed-out edge, but the sounds of "Juju" have a lot more in common with early era two-step. "Speaker Bugs" is a fast-paced, teched-out number that adds techno to the already buzzing mix, while "Grinding Tribe" goes on a mad, baseline-house kinda flex, sounding like garage, house and two-step all mixed up into one fiery cocktail. Banging!

Fallow & Chalice EP
Fallow - "Blitz" - (4:08) 93 BPM Hot
Fallow - "Northern Don" - (4:00) 142 BPM
Fallow - "Operation Dark Fruit VIP" - (3:16) 93 BPM
DJ Chalice - "Rewind Me" - (4:21) 67 BPM
DJ Chalice - "Artois Anthem" - (4:24) 67 BPM
DJ Chalice - "Raise Ya Chalice" - (3:38) 137 BPM
Review: Chow Down serves up its second release with the adventurous grime exploits of Fallow and DJ Chalice, twisting out all kinds of audacious bass shapes that would set the dance alight at parties such as Boxed. Fallow takes the A side with confidence, fresh from a release on Blood Frenzy, and "Blitz" shows the emergent producer is taking no prisoners with a hail of bullets and haunting Indian classical samples. "Northern Don" is a more wobbly synth-rich beat, while "Operation Dark Fruit VIP" amps up the grime strings. DJ Chalice has a lighter touch, bringing in some sunnier melodics and embracing the RnB influences on "Artois Anthem".

Dirty Dubstep/Trap/Grime
Anz EP
Panrico - (3:13) 93 BPM
Clanger - (4:13) 140 BPM Hot
Fencin - (3:49) 140 BPM
Loa - (3:41) 93 BPM
Review: Manchester-based producer Anz makes her release debut here with some bold meditations on where bass music is at right now, making a strong case for how much talent is coming out of the her city at present. "Panrico" is a killer opener, rocking a set of steel drum licks before a mighty fine drop into globulous bass and frantic drums. "Clang" aligns itself with the underground grime scene, although the beats also sport a touch of B-more booty about them. "Fencin" makes the most of massive monosynth tones in a distinctly purple-tinted dubstep throwdown that would have Joker nodding his approval no doubt.
