Review: For as long as we can remember, Defected's annual Miami Music Week compilation has done a brilliant job showcasing tracks that we'll be dancing to a lot in the following weeks and months. Predictably, this year's volume is no different. There's the usual mixture of alternative remixes of familiar favourites from the previous 12 months (see David Penn's remix of Sophie Lloyd's gospel disco anthem "Calling Out" and I:Cube's brilliant revision of Peggy Gou's "It Makes You Forget"), previously released anthems (Horse Meat Disco and Amy Douglas's "Let's Go Dancing" and Ray Mang's delicious disco mix of Phenomenal Handclap Band's "Judge Not") and suitably big tunes that will soon become peak-time staples the world over (see the tracks by Bawrut, Low Steppa, Bsicits and Mighty Mouse).

Review: An Atlanta trio, DJs Jamal Ahmad & Mark Angel and keyboardist/musician Darren "DJ" Wagner are inspired by the story of Dangerfield Newby, one of five African-Americans in the John Brown party. Their album Hariet boasted "What Am I Here For?" amongst its tunes and here it gets the remix treatment. "KZR's Defected Stripped Down Mix" is a deep and moving slice of pared back soulful house and the "Original NDATL Vocal" cut is a jazzy piano house jam with extra swing. Another bonus tune, "Swinging With The New Jacks" becomes a loungey instrumental stomp in the Kai Alce Distinctive remix.

Review: Italian house producer Riva Starr arrived towards the end of the fidget boom and has been slaying dancefloors ever since. He's not been afraid to tackle different styles too and this bravado has captured the attention of Defected how have signed him up for this latest three tracker. "Raw Feel" is very much that - a low-slung, raw, vintage groove with hypnotic vocals (can you guess the classic sample?). Elsewhere the title track recalls Groove Armada at their moodiest and finally "Body Movin" is all about rolling, almost tribal, funky house fun.

Review: Berlin tech house hero Daniel Steinberg returns with another sure-fire groove in the form of "Let Me Down", on the legendary Defected, no less. It's about time for Steinberg, who has been at it for over a decade now. It's the killer remix by fellow Germans and rising stars Tube & Berger here though, who give the track a truly massive, stadium size remix which has the potential to be one of this year's house anthems. With that huge bassline, soaring diva vocals and absolutely mental synth solo in the middle, it's gonna be one of the those tracks you're gonna be hearing a lot of: trust us!

Review: It's been a while since we last enjoyed brand new Copyright originals, but the wait's been seriously worth it. The duo have hinted at a return to their deeper, groove-laden roots and both "Move Over" and "Submarine" rep this direction consummately. "Move Over" bounces with a mid '90s bassline while laser-reaching arpeggios tickle and tease in the same way early Deep Dish productions did. "Submarine", meanwhile, chugs with the help of some great dubbed-out percussive textures and expert vocal sample choppery. Two killer tracks, two guaranteed ways to hypnotise your floor this summer.

Review: Big step up here for the one like S Chu, who lands graciously on his feet for the world-dominating Defected imprint. One track, but that's all it takes if the quality is sky high, and it sure is on his big debut. "Closure" is all you could possibly want from a deep house track: soul, driving beats, gentle pianos and just the right amount of nuttiness in the synths - something which S Chu fully achieves thanks to Terri Walker on the vocals.

Review: Circus ringmaster Yousef follows up "Beg" with this wonderfully sedate, somnambulant vocal 'moment'. Delivered with a nod towards the legacy of John Ciafone, it's a sexy end-of-night special or a dreamy mid-set zone out. Remix-wise Defected complement Yousef's sterling work with an all star cast: Catz N Dogz add their bellowing Dirtybird bass while Fred Everything adds two hooky, beefier versions that stay true to the original's deep intentions.

Review: Hitting the summer with a two-pronged attack, Copyright have certainly left their mark on 2012's sunny season. Igniting the vibe in May with "You Got Me", they're keeping it burning with this beautiful slice of electronic soul. Ann Saunderson's vocals work perfectly over the simple-but-effective three chord riff, armed with striking, sing-along lyrics her dulcet tones have echoed around the walls of Pacha long after they close the doors on another sexy night. Perhaps a tiny bit more synth-driven and less organic than Copyright's previous, this is a most refreshing moment in house music.

Review: After impressing on Steve Lawler's Viva imprint rising Spanish producer David Herrero joins the ever expanding Defected empire with this two track EP of peak time vocal winners. The title track "Spanish Lick" is the cheekier number here, teasing out a 'Lollipop' vocal loop over a nicely layered jacking groove, with some piano touches perfectly suited for the terrace. "Clap Your Hands" drops carnival style drum programming over a heavily chopped vocal rhythm that's backed with a truly nagging lively bassline, whilst reverbed stabs of steely percussion provide some refreshing idiosyncrasy to proceedings.

Review: Absent for a long time on Defected's roster, ATFC's Aydin is back finally with the disco-main room stomp of "Dazzle". Fusing some chopped, orchestral disco hits to a driving tech beat is a masterstroke, but it just gets better and better as he slyly loops parts from the sequence until they engulf the entire mix and rise to a huge, delirious climax. Backing "Dazzle" up is the samba-house of "Can You Feel It" which keeps the bass low and moody while cowbells and Latin percussion hits rattle away gloriously to keep things driving along nicely. Good to see a long-term funky-house don back on great form.
