North Pole - (7:49) 120 BPM
Review: If you're already aware of this Irish label's output, then most of 085 will appeal to you. Indeed both "Aurora" and "Empty Room" adeptly capture what Gobsmacked is all about. Stomping, at times doubled-up beats lay the basis for bursts of white noise and building air raid sirens that suggest a youth spent listening to hard Robert Armani-style ghetto techno and as well as big room minimal. "Zubr" is similar in sound, but the approach is different with the focus on a visceral bassline. However, "North Pole" shows that Gobsmakced also delivers the occasional surprise and its more laid-back tempo, coupled with atmospheric sound scapes, shows that the label isn't solely about peak-time bangers.
