Past Forward
Bubbles - (4:43) 110 BPM
Review: Canadian tech house hero Nathan Barato is up next on Hot Creations, stepping away from his usual tough rolling tech-house sound for this full length. One half of duo The Roaches (with fellow Torontonian Carlo Lio), Barato has also released for the likes of Rekids, Cajual, Saved Records, Snatch and his very own Roots And Wings Music. He brings with him an old-school, energetic bounce throughout Past Forward, inviting some top names to join him for the ride. Kicking off with the early Chicago vibe of "Over You" featuring Montrealer Wayne Tenant, the freaky "She's A Rockstar" featuring Room 303, through to some hyper-boompty antics with Keith Rafael Perez, better known as Kid Enigma on "In Ya Soul" and even moments of super sexy deepness - as heard on "Don't Say It" featuring Mikey V.

Theme From S'Express (Tuff City Kids remix) - (6:53) 118 BPM
Theme From S'Express (Tuff City Kids Acid dub remix) - (5:44) 118 BPM
Review: Well consider us surprised to say the least: we'd have never of thought that the acid house anthem "Theme From S'Express" would get a re-release on Jamie Jones' Hot Creations powerhouse - not to mention some absolutely killer remixes. Originally released in 1989 and produced by the legendary Mark Moore (in collaboration with Pascal Gabriel) from their debut studio album, Original Soundtrack. It peaked at No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart in April 1988 for two weeks and is considered as one of the earliest electronic music songs to incorporate sampling. The remixes come courtesy of Greek tech house hero Detlef - whose version is respectful to the original, but gives it an adequately modern reshape and works that 303 acid darn well. Lauer and Gerd Janson's Tuff City Kids remix keeps it in the late '80s realm, like they always do so well. It incorporates some steel drum presets and a hot Juno bassline.

Metaboman - "Next Please" (original mix) - (4:41) 116 BPM
Review: Two heroes of the new breed kick off a new mix series for Jamie Jones' esteemed Hot Creations imprint. Jones began Paradise at DC10 (Ibiza) five years ago and it's gone on to be a huge success, inviting the biggest names in the business to come play alongside his crew of residents. The first mix is courtesy of Toronto's Nathan Barato, a frequent collaborator with local heroes such as Carlo Lio and The Junkies and whose career has been on the rise with releases on Cajual, Saved, Circus and Defected. Highlights include the Derrick Carter classic "Where Ya At?" (Mix Originale), Makam's brooding "Loleatta" and Jared Wilson's rusty acid odyssey "Girl, I'm Waitin". UK talent Patrick Topping this year completed his third summer as resident at DC10 in Ibiza for Paradise. Here Topping showcases the sound and style of his sets with high energy from the word go. His mix features several of his own productions guaranteed for maximum dancefloor impact, as well as Metaboman's lo-slung and exotic "Next Please" through to Dave Clarke's massive remix of Jark Prongo's "Movin Thru Your System".

Blinded By The Sun
I Can't Help Myself - (3:59) 114 BPM
Find Love - (3:46) 117 BPM
Review: Irish tech house legend Phil Kieran returns with a full length for the Hot Creations powerhouse entitled Blinded By The Sun. It features ten generous servings of groove therapy, covering a wide variety of moods. There's of course the hot lead single "Make A Change" featuring its bouncy and infectious groove, the indie dance of the title track (featuring some hot vocals!) or "Solar Storm" featuring the amazing vocal talents of Zimbabwe's Wilson Magwere. While elsewhere there's more quality, rest assured. For instance some woozy, Crosstown Rebels style poptronica on "Find Love" and some deeply emotive house aimed squarely at the dancefloor on "Realities Forgotten".

Blame Game
Blame Game - (8:03) 118 BPM
Played by: Borgie
Review: With his swarthy looks, slick DJ photos and tales of being electrocuted by a neon sign when he was young (a true story, apparently), Montreal's Greg Pidcock was almost tailor-made for Hot Creations. "Blame Game" is, unsurprisingly, typical of Hot Creations recent output, delivering a subdued, shuffling fusion of sludgy, spoken word vocals, darting melodies and woozy, minor key chords that seem to last an eternity. Hobo remixes, delivering two contrasting versions. First, there's the Shamed Mix, a more uptempo excursion that thickens up the bottom end, adds a rave-inspired riff and makes a little more of Pidcock's woozy vocal. The Named Mix, meanwhile, sticks closer to the original, messing around with the melodies and drowsy chords to maximum dancefloor effect.

PBR Streetgang - "Downstroke" - (7:22) 119 BPM
Bubba - "Dance With Me" - (6:48) 119 BPM
Review: Whatever you think about Hot Creations - and opinions are, of course, divided - you can't deny that Jamie Jones and Lee Foss's label has been a game-changer. Their combination of contemporary house grooves with classic house, disco, boogie and garage influences now dominates dancefloors the world over. This label retrospective tells the story of their runaway success between 2011 and 2012, offering up three hours of unmixed floorfillers from the likes of Waifs & Strays, Miguel Campbell, Burnski, PBR Streetgang, Jamie Jones and Lee Foss, plus a smattering of lesser-known gems. For those who missed the label's formative years, there's also a tasty bonus mix of early material from Russ Yallop.

Electricity EP
Lee Foss & MK - "Electricity" (feat Anabel Englund) - (5:35) 115 BPM Hot
Lee Foss & MK - "Goodnight Moon" - (5:33) 119 BPM
Review: Hot Creations head honcho Lee Foss keeps up the not inconsiderable current momentum of both his profile and label, with this new single featuring MK. Going straight for the pop jugular, "Electricity" is a catchy 4/4 number that, considering the big, multi-layered vocals of Anabel Englund, is aimed more at the radio than dancefloors. "Goodnight Moon" is a great end of night celebratory, if emotionally tender, melodic house. "Could Be" continues with the melodic theme, but it's "B5 The Dinks" with it's slammin' beats, pumpin' bass and infectious guitar lick that will be setting dancefloors alight.

Benediction
Benediction - (6:41) 116 BPM Hot
Review: Ah, Hot Creations, home to the hippest house music that cites disco and 25 year-old club anthems as its inspirations. Here, label head honchos Jamie Jones and Lee Foss revive their Hot Natured project for a sweet stroll through smiley vocal house territory in the company of one-time electrofunk revivalist Ali Love. "Benediction" is good for what it is - a vaguely deep, pleasant Hot Creations record - but the real killer here is the remix of former single "Forward Motion" by crusty old US garage head Mark "MK" Kinchen. He recalls those glory days of tough but groovy MK dubs with a rework straight out of 1993.

Rockin' Beats
Not That Kind Of Girl (MAM remix) - (6:00) 118 BPM
Review: Campbell delivers some proper party music on "Beats". The groove is housey and the vocodered vocal somewhat daft, but the refrain "we're rocking Ibiza" ensures that it remains memorable. The Shadow Child remix is a different proposition, thanks to its lithe break beats and mournful melodies, inspired by MANDY and Booka Shade. "Not That Kind of Girl" features a soulful vocal sample combined with an electro funk bassline and heavy claps to re-create the party sound of 80s Miami. Meanwhile, the MAM version primes the track for modern dance floor usage, with straighter 4/4 drums underscoring the soulful vocal.

Jesse Don't Sport No Jerri Curl
Dejen De Corner Tanta Pinga - (5:29) 118 BPM
Review: The slight misspelling of a famous 80s haircut aside (note to Jesse Perez: it's JHERI curl), this newie from uber-cool house imprint Hot Creations is undeniably fun. The lead cut is decidedly wonky - the main organ seems to enter the fray out of time, before getting locked in to the groove 20 seconds later - but bristles with late '80s hip-house intent. It has a real late night, warehouse party feel, and will no doubt prove popular with anyone who plays all night raves at illicit, backstreet locations. Flipside "Dejen De Corner Tanta Pinga" offers a darker, murkier take on late '80s Chicago house, all pitched-down vocals, bumpin' 909 bass and clattering analogue percussion.
