Let Me Ken (V.I.C.A.R.I. dub mix) - (8:00) 126 BPM

Bad Times - (6:03) 124 BPM
Wonky - (7:59) 126 BPM
Review: We jump from Venice to Edinburgh on this one as Laurence Nolan teams up with Italian imprint: Kina for his long awaited 'Tackle' EP. We begin with the smooth chord waves of 'Wonky' before rolling effortlessly into the deeper, UKG inspired rhythms of 'Let Me Ken'. From here we traverse into the more upbeat rework of 'Let Me Ken', put together by V.I.C.A.R.I. with some seriously flavoursome twists. The intensity remains high as we move into the housey pressure of 'Bing Pow Boom Bing' before we round off with the slower lofi progressions of 'Bad Times' calling time on a very impressive project from the Scot.

Be Another - (7:40) 125 BPM Hot
Review: Ukranian minimal techno hero Yaroslav Lenzyak is up next for German label Kina with "Sometimes I'm Not The One", a reduced acid groove with hypnotic elements that's very much suited to mind melting after-hours moments. There's a great remix up next by Japanese producer/DJ in London: Nobuo Ittetsu, who gives it more of a main room shuffle and follows up great releases recently for the likes of Eastenderz. Back over to Lenzyak on "003", a deep dub techno journey straight into the void and finally "Be Another" which goes for that deeply brooding and ethereal Romanian sound that's just perfect for drifting and wonderful mind games!

Krang - (6:54) 122 BPM Hot
Mungloid - (7:24) 122 BPM
Review: British DJ/producer Rhymos - or Aaron Binstead to his mum - has been floating around the after party scene for some time. In that time, he's become resident at the Junk Club, played alongside Geddes and the Crosstown Rebels clique, and released a handful of EPs. Here he returns to the production field with two tracks of hypnotic, loopy, tech-tinged deep house. The rising and falling synth motifs of 5am head-nodder "Krang" suggest long, slow mixing and blinking, locked-in dancers. "Mungloid", meanwhile, builds a more interesting, old skool influenced take on afterparty grooves thanks to some smart percussion programming, a busy bassline and lashings of gentle rave riffage.

Stories Part 6
Daniel Solar - "Rainy Days" - (7:58) 122 BPM
Lula Circus - "Lamb" - (7:46) 123 BPM Hot
Review: In some ways, "Lamb" by Lula Circus is like many modern house tracks. It starts off as a stripped back groove, hiccupping and stuttering in reference to its mnml heritage, but it soon veers into a disco filtered breakdown. What sets it apart however are the subtleties, like the juddering vocal snippets and their infectious combination with the disco riffs. "Rainy Days" on the other hand sounds charmingly out of time with current trends. Like a techier version of Kenny Hawkes's classic "Sleaze Walking", its walking bassline, live-sounding groove and dramatic strings shine brightly over the monochrome horizon - and when the 'if the sun don't rise tomorrow' refrain kicks in, it feels like the late 90s never ended!

Velvet, The Remixes
Velvet (original mix) - (7:04) 122 BPM
Velvet (David Durango remix) - (7:20) 122 BPM Hot
Velvet (Boris Hotton remix) - (8:07) 122 BPM
Velvet (Tornike remix) - (6:19) 126 BPM
Review: After releasing some typically atmospheric tech-house, Cosmic Cowboys pop up on Kina with a silky-smooth deep house release. The original version of "Velvet", which kicks off the release, sounds like it should be soundtracking some kind of dimly-lit German soft porn flick - though it is, we should add, miles better than the soft focus saxophone drivel usually included on such cheesy late night films. Remix wise, there's plenty to enjoy. David Durango gets lively with the percussion on his sparkling remake, while Boris Hutton infuses the original melodies with some African-influenced instrumentation. There's also a semi-Balearic, stargazing mix from Tonrike, which should satisfy those looking for beach bar tackle.
