London based No Fuss Records is backed by Saison duo Leigh Darlow and Matthew Bandy. The label concept is simple, a No Fuss approach to good music. Matthew & Leigh aim to bring their long standing experience in music to create a platform for the projects they love. The label pulls its musical influences from Matt & Leigh's early beginnings in clubland and the rave scene via London & the Midwest (U.S.A).
Review: After a three-year break, talented Italian musician, producer and arranger Michele Chiavarini has decided to bring back his occasional Jazzcodes project, which in the past has offered up singles on SPRY and Quantize Recordings. In its EP-opening 'extended mix' form, 'Jazz Was Dancing' is a superb slab of 'Tourist'-era St Germain style jazz-house rich in dusty samples, jaunty piano riffs, rubbery double bass, restless jazz guitar solos and dusty vocal samples. No Fuss founders Saison (AKA Leigh Darlow and Matthew Bandy) deliver the accompanying remix, wrapping choice elements of Chiavarini's original (piano, bass, the heady spoken word snippets, choice samples of the guitar solo) around a chunky, driving house groove. It's really good, all told, though lacks some of the swing and musical intricacy of the original mix.
Review: Oscar Barila has been serving up solid singles and EPs for the best part of 15 years. In the process, he's notched up releases on a wide range of labels including Plastic City, Nite Grooves, Moiss Music and Large Music. Here the Valencia-based producer brings his brand of peak-time ready club music to No Fuss for the first time. He's brought his A-game too, as title track 'The Art of Jazz' - a rolling, warming slab of deep house smothered in hazy electric piano riffs, twinkling solos and starry synth sounds - so emphatically proves. The fun continues elsewhere across the EP, where slap-bass propelled deep house stomper '(Like) Magic is followed by the tactile, immersive, spacey and string-drenched wonder that is 'I Have To Leave'.
