Review: It was a banner year for Stuttgart, Germany-based label Parquet, as showcased on Retrospective 2021 which is curated and compiled by label chief Solee. The boss man kicks things off with the acidified dancefloor drama of "Luft", D-Nox & Gai Barone get slinky and hypnotic on "Painkiller", the ascendant Several Definitions is in fine form as always on the tension and suspense of "Orion", while Nors Kode gets ultra deep on the emotive "Lu". Elsewhere, James Harcourt weaves together a sublime tapestry of melodies on "Acceptance" and Aussie Nicholas Booey hands in the mandatory 'heads-down' groove on "Euphoric" (feat Ziggy).

Review: Parquet Recordings' 2020 | Retrospective compilation includes the label's most loved deep melodic house tracks of the year, all handpicked by label head Solee. From the evocative deep house of Shahin & Leiuna's "Paradigm" (Pete Oak Remix) which is perfect for the warm-up or sunset slot alike, to the brooding dancefloor drama of Rinzen & Evan Casey's "Expansion" which nails that Life & Death/Afterlife vibe. Elsewhere, the ever reliable Rauschhaus gets on with the slinky and hypnotic progressive house epic "What We Expected" and Ray T.J. (Sincopat) takes the energy levels into the peak time on the utterly euphoric "Calypso".

Review: The second instalment in the Parquetechno series gets off to a dramatic fashion, with the soaring strings of Cassidy's "Ancestry" and the melodic, atmospheric groove of HA|XO's "Alone In The Club". These are sandwiched between a different type of drama, namely the tough, Terrence Fixmer-style electro-techno groove of Several Definitions' "Enigma". Label owner Solee keeps the intensity levels up with the pulsating, tranced out "Verboten", but the compilation also reveals a flip side to these energetic tracks - audible on the deep minimal house of Djos's Davis' "Shimmer Mist" and the hypnotic, throbbing tech-house that Room Service delivers on "Antrazit".

Planet Earth | March Of The Giants
Planet Earth - (6:42) 124 BPM Hot
March Of The Giants - (7:37) 62 BPM
Review: More deep and melodic house and techno direct out of Stuttgart from Normen Flaskamp aka Solee. He has released on top imprints such as Einmusika, Steyoyoke and Yoshitoshi in recent times but this one's on his beloved Parquet imprint. His latest offering is perhaps his finest yet; "Planet Earth '' is a blissed-out electro number which forgoes the genre's usually dystopian motifs, but a futuristic sense of otherworldliness remains. The second original offering is "March Of The Giants" which is a powerful, straight-ahead techno track which takes a bit of an ominous turn, but this sure is proper dancefloor artillery that's perfect to lead into the peak time.

Sandburg - (8:53) 123 BPM
Review: For many years, Normen Flaskamp aka Solee has stood for quality electronic dance music, very much rooted between melodic techno and deep progressive house. The Stuttgart-based producer, DJ and live act is back on his own renowned label Parquet Recordings, with the mesmerising dancefloor journey of "Bora", awash in layers of sublime synth textures and powerful rhythm arrangements. This is followed up by the moody dancefloor drama of "Sandburg" that's sure to cast its spell on you with its majestic aesthetic throughout. Following up equally impressive outings of late for Bedrock, Suara, Noir Music and Yoshitoshi - Solee remains one to watch!

Review: Stuttgart's Parquet recordings has built a solid reputation across the world with its intelligent yet accessible blend of lush deep house, groovy tech house, melodic techno and progressive elements. Its releases have received support from huge figures across the spectrum of house and techno and has a fantastic reputation - widely associated with some of the most respected and in-demand names in dance music. The label makes its way to the Dutch capital this year for the electronic music community's biggest event that is ADE, with a massive party at Chicago Social Club featuring label boss Solee, D-Nox & Beckers and veteran Gabriel Ananda. This compilation features some of the sonic arsenal that the label will be packing on the night. Highlights come from: Rinzen & Evan Casey's moody Innervisions style dancefloor drama on "Fractal", Marc DePulse's neon-lit and sensual "Pov", the glassy eyed and heartfelt narrative of Several Definitions "M24" and label affiliate Alex Preda's off-kilter and sombre "Vortex".

Kaiser Souzai - "Efairy" - (7:10) 126 BPM Hot
Fede Key & Matteo Gargallo - "Revenge" - (8:09) 126 BPM
Talul - "Infidelity" - (6:59) 123 BPM
Review: The long-running Parquet label taps some of the most respected names in tech-house for this split release. First up, is Kaiser Souzai with "Efairy". Despite its title, the mood is ominous and layered, as a brooding bass and ponderous vocal samples are combined with mysterious textures and rasping percussion. It's an alluring, hypnotic affair. Fede Key & Matteo Gargallo's contribution is based on a similar mood, and "Revenge" resounds to a pulsating bass, washes of eerie synth and a rolling bass. Talul's "Infidelity" completes this superb EP. While not as menacing as the first two contributions, its synth lines are truly evocative and the bass tones have a touch of 80s New Order.

Jupita - (8:10) 127 BPM
Jupita (Ignacy Rome remix) - (6:25) 120 BPM
Played by: Umek
Review: Maxime Dangles' crisp, clear techno is a breath of fresh air. Taking the solid bars of icy synths and resonant pulsing bass of "Diskover" and splicing them into a minimal house atmosphere. The resulting tracks from this experimentation are the perfect epitome of minimal techno, yet the edgy frost is brushed off somehow by the warm influence of years of house music influences. Hauk 'n' Baum discard any semblance of warmth for their remix, crushing cold synths with big, flat beats with an addictive drive. The less-is-more approach of "Jupita" builds into a playful mish-mash of bleeps and blips when left alone; Ignacy Rome's remix is dancefloor techno at its height; harsh with a wry smile, restrained until the end. Delicious.

Born and Left EP

Born & Left (Till Kruger remix) - (6:03) 123 BPM
Born & Left (Zusammenklang remix) - (7:30) 122 BPM
Md_Ma - (6:42) 124 BPM
Sphore - (6:54) 125 BPM
Review: Pastor manages to take influence from a number of sounds on the title track. Featuring stripped back, broken beats, "Born" also offers lullaby melodies - think Dominik Eulberg at his most fragile - and a rolling, drunken vocal. The Zusammenklang version is also an amalgamation of various influences, with the heavy, funk bass of nu-disco underpinning joyous, spine-tingling Kompakt melodies. Till Kruger offers a radically different take; his beats are stomping and amid the searing acid line, it's just about possible to hear muffled vocals. Finally, Pastor's "Md_Ma" is more stripped back, the beats practically microscopic as delicate trance melodies encircle them.

Takt Tick - "July Rain" (V) - (9:43) 127 BPM
Nick Warren - "Flowers" (Solee remix) - (7:54) 125 BPM
Review: Consisting of original productions by Solee, remixes for close colleagues and a few tracks by associated artists, Night Shift goes through a number of styles. "Oasis" and "Aragorn" are based on tough house beats and lead into trancey climaxes thanks to Solee's eerie synths, while "Dubtale" is a lighter, disco house affair. At the other end of the spectrum, Solee delivers an oppressive bass version of Goodspeed 's "Stage Whisper". But if there is a common theme, it's a love of trancey melodies and epic builds - audible on Solee's neon trance meets slinky acid version of Nick Warren's "Flowers" and John Tejada's woozy chord building reshape of Solee's "Legends".

Paralelo (Oliver Schories remix) - (9:02) 126 BPM
Paralelo (Boss Axis remix) - (6:25) 125 BPM
Review: Few dance producers do melodies like Brazilian Gui Borratto, and these versions of Paralelo are in keeping with his uplifting approach . The Solee remix sees spacey, breathy chords build over a splurging acid bass and the includion of a spacey filter means that it strikes a perfect balance between depth, trippiness and dance floor appeal. The Oliver Schories version is more upfront, with its hissing percussion and nagging bass creating a darker mood, which is in turn augmented by chilling strings. Finally, the Boss Axis version sees a return of sorts to Borratto's melodic sound, as chiming bells and a surging, humming bass compete for the listener's attention.
