Review: Strangely, veteran soulful house vocalist Kenny Bobien has yet to release a full-length studio set, despite a career that now spans some 17 years. Still, at least we have Defined, an expansive, 13 track retrospective that showcases many of his best moments from arguably his most successful period, 1994 to 2005. Those who are already familiar with Bobien's urgent, soaring style will be immensely pleased - for the most part, Defined flits between huge gospel house belters ("I Shall Not Be Moved"), jaunty soul updates (Patti LaBelle cover "You Are My Friend"), skippy trad garage ("Rise Above The Storm") and impeccably produced smooth grooves ("Father").
