Review: For the latest release on his label, Rodhad invited fellow Berlin resident Pery around to his studio for some improvised jams. The resulting five-track release, Kallait, takes the listener on a trip through raw, analogue techno. "Kallait 01" is a Mike Parker-style, bleep-laden workout, while the second instalment sees the pair delver swirling synths over detuned kicks. The third volume resounds to grainy drums and a swinging rhythm, while "Kallait 04" sails closer to industrial territory thanks to its frazzled bass and noisy builds. Keeping the listener guessing until the end, the fifth "Kallait" is a slamming minimal track, replete with dramatic analogue stabs.
Review: Verdurous is the second in a two-part collaborative series between Ignez and Rodhad. Bringing together their collective talents, it starts with "Verdurous 01", a lean rolling techno track. Powered by tough drums, it also features dramatic string swirls and acid builds. The second "Verdurous" follows a similar path. Heavy kicks and frazzled percussion provide a platform for the duo to drop hypnotic bleeps and an ominous bass. The third volume centres on a straight rhythm and a nagging bassline as the pair add breathy vocals into the arrangement. On the fourth and final "Verdurous", they venture down a more reflective path. Delivering an esoteric, break beat-led piece it shows that their creative might doesn't have a singular focus.
Review: Rodhad hooks up with newcomer Ignez for the latest release on WSNWG. "Vermillion 01" resounds to chilling strings and punchy drums, resulting in a perfectly weighted, hard-edged club track. "02" sees the pair up the pace, deploying a ponderous bass and firing percussion as the backing elements for grinding riffs. On the third "Vermillion", the intensity levels rise again as incendiary analogue sounds rise to a crescendo before dropping off again. The fourth and final instalment offers a more considered approach. Revolving around a stripped back, steely rhythm, the techno double act adds in dramatic, chilling strings for maximum impact.
Review: Out Of Place Artefacts - a collaboration between German producers Rodhad and Vril, embarks on a new sonic exploration in the project's second installment on the former's WSNWG. Features a wide range of sounds showcasing the pair's strong sonic repertoire, with highlights such as the sublime experimental opener "Pangaea", or the hyperaware IDM of "Nimbus MM", the dark ambient soundscape of "Black Goo", to the intelligent electro programme of "Nibiru" and the downbeat hypnotic techno of "Kosmogenesis".
Review: WSNWG showcases collaborations between label chief Rodhad and a variety of like-minded artists, all recorded in the warm creative environment of his Berlin studio. This release sees him team up with modular synth extraordinaire JakoJako for a full-length titled In Vere. Whether it"s the dreamy IDM of "Helonias" or the evocative ambient soundscape of Orchis, this release is largely experimental much unlike the label"s previous output. However, the duo make room for some dancefloor oriented material, such as the pummelling main room cut "Lilium" or the deep and linear minimal techno of "Passeri" (Floor mix).
Review: For the eighth instalment of WSNWG, Rodhad teams up with Fadi Mohem, who has released on Klockworks and Fjaak's SPANDAU20. Unsurprisingly, this partnership yields four crafty dance floor techno tracks. "210407.1" is a chord-heavy affair that is underpinned by a dense bass and impactful thunder claps. "210409.1" follows in a similar vein, with the pair deploying an insistent stab over niggling percussion and a rolling groove. On "210407.2" they up the pace to deliver a looped DJ tool, while "210407.3" diverts somewhat from the approach thanks to Mohem and Rodhad's use of a stepping rhythm and niggling acid lines.
