Review: Sometime Rekids regular Spencer Parker opts for a classy, life-affirming disco-house sound on 'Ddbb', which continues a run of righteous releases on his Work Them imprint. Although most of the instrumentation is electronic, it sounds authentically 'disco' - think punchy Philly Soul style horn blasts, sweeping strings and warming bass - albeit with the added allure of snappy, early Chicago house style drum machine beats. Old pal Ian Pooley steps up to provide the obligatory remix. What he's delivered is a touch more jacking, percussion-wise, and much more bass-heavy, whilst retaining the revivalist disco feel of Parker's original version. Pooley is a past master at this kind of thickset, disco-leaning house music and it shows - it's a fine remix all told.

Review: El Dorado is P.Leone aka Salvatore Carlino's third and most impressive release for Work Them. On "El Dorado (Bump Yo Ass Off Mix)", he mines the rich musical legacy of his home town of New York. Tough beats, inspired by those drums that featured on dub versions back in the 90s, provide the back drop for a diva vocal sample that's encased in a whooshing, swirling filter. "Dancing To Get Your Back" sees the fast-rising house producer opt for a radically different approach. Underpinned by rough break beats, it features insistent, deft filters and, bubbling beneath the surface, rave stabs from the hazy early 90s.
