Review: Beringei's first outing on WotNot Music, summer 2019's The People, The Place, was a bit of a slept-on gem - a fine three-tracker that expertly joined the dots between dub disco, Afro-fired broken beat and soft-focus future soul. There's a similar fusion feel to this similarly inspired follow-up. Opener 'Piece of Mind' is utterly delicious, with Beringei crafting a warming deep house jam out of live instrumentation (bass guitar, electric piano, spacey synths etc) and the hazy, loved-up vocals of Andres Alcover. William Florele adds his effortlessly soulful vocals to title track 'Without You', a deep and spacey broken beat treat, while closing cut 'Hearts (Our Love)' is a dusty chunk of downtempo drowsiness heavily influenced by stoned instrumental hip-hop.

Review: It's been some five years since we heard music from Brighton in the UK's Jonny Wildey who delivers WotNot music its first release since 2018. It follows Alphabets Heaven's 2015 Wanderer release, also on WotNot, with Cielo reinvigorating the project with three beat down, swampy and experimental flavours of augmented urban beatmaking. There's Warp and bleep-styled tropical techno-electro trips here to be found, such as "Slouchy" with its subtle hardcore and rave influebces threaded between the slower, trippy and percussive BPMs and modern pop-like arrangennts of "Hulu". Touching slightly on baile funk genres and softer industrial mallet percussions too, Alphabeat Heaven returns with a new groove.
