Review: Foliage Records presents the next version of their compilation series Deep Rooted via Bristol legend Sean McCabe! This eighth edition unearths some fresh gems from trusted stalwarts like Atjazz and Jimpster, with Sean McCabe himself throwing down twice with Karmasound in "A New Day" alongside others like Harold Mathew's Jr in a extended vocal mix of "This Place" to something else with Turbojazz and Monica Blaire in "Don't Look Down". Review: El-B and his supernatural crewdem, show us just how well they understand the UK bass scene. El-B is a solid contributor to the foundations of dubstep, and here in 'Celly' we can hear the dark, ominous wobble we associate with the early days of the sound, the 2 step drums and ragga vocal bring a party element to an otherwise somber track. Collaborating with Vandal for 'Hostile' we hear a fat, juicy sub, covered in layers of reverb and echo while sweeping atmospherics give us the uncomfortable feeling of being followed. Blaze's 'QD1' is all about the bass, short blobs of deep sound make up the main body of the track, with sharp drum to slice through the soundscape. 'We See You' sees El-B come with our favourite track of the EP, shuffling 2 step is decorated with eerie chords, drippy hollow sound effects and a dark bouncy low end.

Review: Given their well discussed love of vintage U.S house and garage, it's little surprise to see Bicep taking on the potentially tricky task of remixing Blaze's 1996 New Jersey classic, "Lovelee Dae". Wisely, the Belfast boys have retained many of the original's sumptuous elements -sweeping strings, rich chords and summery vocal included - and expertly fused them with carnival-friendly drums and a deliciously tactile, Italian house style bassline. The fine vocal mix is accompanied by a similarly impressive Dub, where the duo makes merry with floating, delay-heavy vocal snippets, filters, and their own dense, party-rocking rhythm.

Review: Having seen his vintage remix of DJ Dove's "Come On" (originally produced with 20:20 Vision partner in crime Carl Finlow, and first released in 2000) make an unlikely dancefloor comeback last year (not a huge surprise, given its quality), Ralph Lawson has decided to trawl through his box of long-forgotten DATs for more forgotten gold. Bar a handful of recent reworks (including a fine re-tweak of a little-known, Andres-ish Prophets of Sound rework), all of the remixes on Dusty Dubs & Gold Dust by Lawson and Finlow at least 10 years ago. That most sound surprisingly fresh is testament to their quality. Highlights and naturally plentiful, from the skittering, hard-to find mix of Wolf 'N' Flow's "Feeling moody", to the raw house-boogie vibes of their magnificent Blaze rework.
