Review: Peppermint Jam have been successfully housing it up for about 20 years now. Lately they've been releasing a slew of compilations and this one explores the deeper end of their output. Despite the specific remit, it still covers a surprising amount of ground: from the haunted urban D&B of "Lay It Down (Triads mix)", funky Latin house "A World Celebration", smooth, luxurious deep house "Look Inside" and super ecstatic jump up party anthem "Check It Out". Looks like 'deep' can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people.

Review: Jacking funky house with more than a taste of silky Philly soul on this new release from the Peppermint Jam label. BMR's original gets pepped up nicely by Boris Dlugosch and Michi, while the "Knee Deep dub" makes great use of some affecting filter builds and showcases those tight disco loops once shorn of Felicia's commanding vocals.

Review: A canny reinterpretation of a song by '80s jazz-funk troupe Level 42, BMR's disco-house gem "Starchild" is put through its paces by Boris Dlugosch & Michi Lange Star, who pep up the drums and make the popping bassline the star on their revisit. DJ and remixer Bob Sinclar also comes through with a storming, club-rocking extension that majestically loops a hung note for an obscene amount of time over a French house beat.

Review: Peppermint Jam has gone reissue crazy of late, popping out vintage club tracks from the label's 1990s heyday. This latest release actually comes from slightly later - 2001, in fact - and sees long-forgotten production alias BMR (aka house heavyweight Boris Dlugosch and pal Michi Lange) join forces with slap-bass loving Brit jazz-funkers Level 42 for a cover of the latter's much-loved "Starchild". It's tastefully done, smoothly turning the original into a bumpin' chunk of uplifting vocal house with a twinkling, starry twist. There's a solid Dub included for those scared of vocals, as well as a good old-fashioned DJ tool in the shape of the hypnotic "Ping-o-pella".
