Review: The latest release Gudu is an idiosyncratic affair, with the title track setting a distinctive scene: based on a rolling groove, it sees Dea layer wave upon wave of sounds over staccato drums, a walking funk bass and crashing cowbells. On "Zaria Sto Chaos", Dea follows a different artistic trajectory. Utilising a pulsating disco groove and clipped drums for the track's basis, he drops celebratory piano keys and a mysterious vocal sample that winds its way through the arrangement. "Mahfudzot" also features indistinct vocals, with hypnotic chants wrapped around tribal drums - it makes for a left of centre take on modern disco. Rounding off the release is seminal French artist I:Cube with a suitably offbeat, dreamy take on "Mahfudzot".
