Review: Dirty Culture is Amsterdam-based Romanian Tudor-Radu Barbu, who is next up on Argentina's Myhouse Yourhouse with the impressive Club Split #2 EP. TheSounds label boss provides two originals such as the emotive late night deep house of "Why Do I Deserve The Science To Feel Better About" and its hypnotic finger picked guitar licks throughout, as well as the afterhours minimal funk of "Amsterdam In A Box". As if that was not enough, you have two more tracks by local producer RO_MO from Mar Del Plata serving up some 'dance manners of South American Clubbing Zeitgeist' in the form of the swing-fuelled and bass-driven tech house of "Friy" followed by "2 Mananas" - a trippy microhouse jam that's perfect for getting weird in the morning hours.

Review: Dirty Culture aka Tudor-Radu Barbu has released on a wealth of labels, including 1trax and My House Your House, and now he makes his debut on PURISM. Drawing on classic tech-house from the late 90s / early 00s, he favours a groovy, techy sound throughout; the title track is a sparse, angular affair, while on "Late Nite Baking", he goes deeper to drop a warm, rolling groove. The interestingly-named "Branding Your Fire On My Lips" resounds to tight drums and firing percussion, while supported by a dense bass and the driving, techy "Aquarium" closes out this fine underground house EP.

Review: 5 Years shows that this label's remit has been wider than most. While there are a number of drummy, toolish tracks on offer - the most notable being the dense tribal drums, disco filters and 'no way to me' vocal sample of Stu Patrics' 'The Girl Next Floor' - the most rewarding tracks are those that divert from the dominant script. Dzeta N'Basile & Spieltape take inspiration from the time-stretched basslines of 2-step for "Know You", while Dirty Culture's "As I Walk" is a killer deep house jam, replete with soulful vocals and fluttering, jazzy piano keys. However, the real highlight is the deep, breezy techno of Elzy's "Kuntao".

Review: This compilation spans a range of sounds, but is testament to the fact that despite its diversity, Affin has always been a byword for quality underground dance music. From the stepping, understated "Minus One" by Truncate to the woodwind-led house of "Stalking You" by James Hunter and the gorgeous, jazzy, filtered groove of Jamal Moulay's "Le Push", 100 does a lot to showcase the label's penchant for deep dance music. Joachim Spieth's "Sensual" boasts hypnotic Basic Channel-style chords, but the beats are tougher and denser. Reggy Van Oers's "Centipede" veers further down this chord-driven, dubby techno path and Affin also celebrates the harder end of techno with the utilitarian, Berghain-influenced linear sound of Chemie & Ian Kran's "Nucleated Thought".
