Review: Sydney-based L Neils signaled his arrival on the scene late last year, dropping an impressive two-tracker of spacey, house-tempo tech-funk on Baroc. This follow-up for Echovolt explores similar territory. He begins with the vintage intelligent techno electronics, rolling grooves, Motor City chords and bubbling bass of "7th Chapter", before moving further towards Detroit techno territory with the intergalactic shuffle and tactile synth bass of "Untitled". There's a looser, wonkier feel to "MKMKMK" - think tumbling melodies, yearning chords and cymbal-heavy rhythms - while the clanking "Beta" ensures the EP finishes on a triumphant high. Clearly influenced by early '90s British techno, it pops and fizzes with alien electronics and electro-influenced beats.
