Review: With recent releases for Internasjonal and Tim Sweeney's Beats In Space Records, Los Angeles based producer Secret Circuit (otherwise known as Eddie Ruscha) has had a breakthrough year with his brittle synth jams, taking inspiration from Balearic disco and minimal wave alike. However, he's been a prolific producer since 1996, and this record on Emotional Response, entitled Tropical Psychedelics, collects productions from Rusha up until 2010 that have previously only seen the light of day on cassette releases. Described by the label as a "Balearic-Tropical-Afro-Psychedelic whirl", the album packs a rich palette of analogue textures into its ten tracks, from the Afro dub of "Afrobotics", through the hazy, beatless combination of piano and analogue synth on "Psouvenirs" to the psychedelic tropicalia of "Foggy Twilights".

Review: Anything Eddie Ruscha touches is generally worth checking, and this latest outing for Lectric Sands offshoot It's A Lectric World is no exception. Ruscha kicks things off with the Electric Dub, an untypically funky fusion of his usual vivid psychedelics, exotic vocal samples, crunchy guitars and an undulating disco-rock groove. The Original Rub - all bubbling electronics, muted guitar licks and deep house warmth - adds a little Balearic disco flavour, before Ruscha returns to more familiar territory with the delay-laden and pleasingly out-there Lectric Dub. Finally, he reaches for the marimbas on the Pleasing dub, an afro-influenced blast of wide-eyed Balearic sunshine complete with lilting pedal steel.

Review: When Juno Plus spoke to Emotional Response boss Stuart Leath recently, he talked excitedly about his latest time intensive project - trawling through boxes of old cassette recordings from L.A multi-instrumentalist Eddie "Secret Circuit" Ruscha to compile a follow-up to 2012's brilliant Tropical Psychedelics compilation. Predictably, the resulting collection is nothing short of brilliant. Typically eccentric, melodious, atmospheric and bristling with interesting ideas, Cosmic Vibrations delves deeper into Ruscha's archives and comes up with gold. Highlights are naturally plentiful, but keep an eye out for the psychedelic ambience of "Electric Brain", the analogue electronic explorations of "Nova Laser", and "Shockers", an acid-flecked chunk of chiming Balearic deep house with exotic, Arabic touches.

Shockers (The Samps remix) - (5:30) 60 BPM
Underdogs (Tom Noble remix) - (6:42) 52 BPM Hot
Roll (Aritocrat P Child Re-edit) - (6:55) 61 BPM
Review: Emotional Response open the Secret Circuit archives to some of Eddie Ruscha's contemporaries from the City of Angels for a fine exercise in how to do a remix 12". First up is Suzanne Kraft, aka Diego Herrera who forms one half of Blase along with Ruscha; in his hands the crazy afro-stylings of "Afrobotics" are pulled towards the dancefloor, adding percussion and sirens, forging the originals vibes in to a ethno-beat club jam that is all about that heads down moment. Next up The Samps turns "Shockers" into a warped mesh of psychedelic dance, whilst Superior Elevation's Tom Noble adds some killer boogie vibes to "Underdogs". Finally Sun Araw man Cameron Stallones appears under rare alter-ego Aristrocrat P. Child to re-edit "Roll" in superb fashion.

Invisible Family EP 1

Higamos Hogamos - "Mini Pops" - (6:16) 125 BPM
Tim Love Lee - "Trip Triangular" - (9:00) 108 BPM Hot
The Poncho Brothers - "Airbed Drifter" - (2:56) 106 BPM
Review: New label Invisible Inc has decided to try and hit home hard from the word go, filling this debut "sampler" EP with cuts from artists they'll be working with over the coming months and years. Los Angeles based artist-turned-producer Secret Circuit kicks things off, delivering a typically saucer-eyed blend of yearning synthesizer melodies, elastic synth-bass and dreamy pads. Higamos Hogamos doff a cap to synth-wave and minimal-wave on the wonderfully atmospheric, modular-heavy soundscapes of "Mini Pops", before hirsute eccentric Tim 'Love' Lee melds twinkling ambience and dubby, soft touch grooves on the picturesque "Trip Triangular". Finally, the Poncho Brothers skillfully combine dub disco rhythms, Balearic synths and stoned electronics on the brilliantly named "Airbed Drifter".

Rhythmatic Generator - (4:31) 120 BPM
Memory Melt - (4:15) 110 BPM Hot
Review: Glasgow outfit Invisible Inc's latest release comes from Los Angeles' Secret Circuit, a producer whose trippy, loved-up and decidedly colourful compositions have previously graced such labels as Emotional Response, Beats In Space and Stones Throw. The four tracks showcased here are typically diverse; contrast, for example, the reverb and delay-heavy ambient house shuffle of "Gothic Rainbow", with the twinkling pianos and cascading jazz guitars of Balearic closer "Memory Melt". Best of all, though, is up-tempo number "Rhythmatic Generator", which effortless blends elements of psychedelia, intelligent techno, ambient and dub disco into a spiraling, out-there anthem.
