Review: For their latest remix compilation, Californian label Dirtybird has selected some of its standout tracks over the years that have left a special mark, tapping some of the scene's finest for their reinterpretations. Highlights include Innervisions co-head Dixon's moody, tension-filled dub mix of "Urban Animal", Chi-town legend DJ Sneak bringing his unique brand of boompty-funk to a rework of label boss Claude Vonstroke's classic "Deep Throat", as well as veteran Harry 'Choo Choo' Romero's dancefloor drama version of Scavazza's "Shake Your Hearts" and label staple J.Phlip's version of Luca Lozano's "Berlinetta" among many others.

Review: In the words of Fatboy Slim 'everybody needs a 303', but few people can meet this need better than Thee Mike B. On the title track, the LA DJ/producer drops a searing, gurgling 303 as the backdrop for a hazy, frazzled tale about real-life acid indulgence. Lubelski's version is more linear and dancefloor-focused, with the 303 lines woven into a chord-heavy, niggling techno rhythm. Meanwhile, Salva veers in an electro direction for the second remix, with crisp break beats and shuffling 808s providing the basis for a combination of dazed vocals and raw acid lines. If you emerge with your sanity intact, there's also a tripped out acapella to contend with.

This is the third chapter of their Year compilations and, once again, we're presented with a heavy assortment of gnarly rhythms from players like Kid Kamillon, Damn Kids, Kito, Three Mike B. The thing is, if you're looking for a good dose of contemporary base that sits all under one hefty compilation, you've pretty much struck gold with this.
