Review: Jamaica's Equiknoxx have spent the last decade re-inventing dancehall for the 21st century, delivering a swathe of releases that look further afield than Kingston for inspiration. Bird Sound Power is, somewhat surprisingly, their first appearance on vinyl, and sees them pop up on Demdike Stare's experimentally-minded DDS imprint. Featuring a mix of brand new cuts and previously released - but largely unknown - jams, it's a set that impresses with both its' rhythmic dexterity, and its' obvious inventiveness. Their 'riddims' veer from the punchy and rolling to the weird and out-there, with cute electronic flourishes, IDM influences, ambient chords and trill birdsong all adding to the humid, thrill-a-minute mood.

Review: Long-standing collaborators Binga and Shafique continue to go pound for pound on this bulbous nine-track EP. Eight originals and one stone cold Perez remix, this one's a danger session as a vibrant, dancehall thrust sizzles throughout. Highlights include the dreamy chorus on "Check Di New", the Carpenter style motifs on "Pot Ah Bubble", the squid bass and textured twist on Rider's smoky vox on "Rootsman Tonic" and the incredible surge of emotion on "Chinchilla" thanks to its beautiful rising chords on the finale. And that's before we even get to Alix's deep space twister take on "Highly Blessed". Nothing short of essential.

Review: More fusion from the elusive Manny soundboys Think Tonk as they continue to melt down the essence of jungle, drum & bass and bashment. "Ride Out" is their shiniest dancehall stepper to date with an autotuned vocal that's almost foxy in its male prowess. The remixes pay full respect as Benny Page gets his sunshine D&B skank on while Zed Bias gives V two slinky 135 garage jams. Strap up, this one's riding for a long time to come.

Review: It's been a hot minute since we last saw a brand new dancehall project that excited us as much as this one as Blackout JA teams up with Liondub International for a twelve track selection, channeling dancehall music into 2021. The list of collaborators for this one is the first thing that stands out for us, with the likes of Daddy Freddy, Ranking Joe, Blakkamoore, Echo Minott, Sophia May, YT, Ricky T & a bag more all getting involved with wicked contributions. It's an album that represents why dancehall still holds a key place in dance music in 2020. There are a couple of clear highlights for us across this release, with 'Love Dancehall' alongside Navigator & Sophia May being a really cool throwback to the original toasted dancehall sound, followed up by the super crunchy arrangements of 'Hidden Truth' with Souls Liberation providing a perfect outro track.

Review: It's always a joy to hear of a new release from the mighty Rumble (aka Marcus Visionary and Liondub). Yes back they are, and they're brandishing a brand new weapon, "Gyalis", strengthened by the help of Mr Lexx, Suku Ward and their mics. The original tune sees the latter pair duel, with the former's dominant bassy tones and the latter's higher, toaster shout-outs actually working together perfectly. Underneath the vocals is an electronic dancehall bassline with light, DnB-meets-ska beats, and there's even a "Riddim" dub version thrown in for good measure.

Rumble feat Suku (Ward 21)
Review: Rumble is the new team of Marcus Visionary and Liondub. Their plan is to showcase vocalists from Jamaica, New York and the UK and to fuse the sounds of dancehall, hip-hop and DnB. Siren is their first offering and they've started with a banger - roping in the legendary soundclash MC Suku (aka Ward 21 of Kingston, Jamaica). The original of "Siren" is a buzzy, high-energy electronic skank that's guaranteed to get the place totally lit. Elsewhere the club mix gets looser with dem riddims, the DnB mix is what it says on the tin, but the dancehall version is totally pure joy.

Review: As always with the Liondub International crew, we are in for an absolute cracker with this one as they unveil an 18 track vocal pack, exploring the super lively 'Soap Riddim', one of the most dancefloor-ready instrumental designs we have heard in years. The lineup they have managed to assemble for this collection is pretty outstanding, featuring the likes of Patexx, Javada, Suku Ward, Red Fox, Junior Dangerous and many more, all of whom deliver lively vocal performances. This is a perfect tape pack for any dancehall DJ looking to turn up the flavour in the dance, with our highlights being Daddy Freddy's highly energetic performance on 'Danger', next to Blackout JA & YT's vibrant back and forth display on 'Greatest Treasure'. You can pick and choose your favourites, but this is a riddim that is going to cause some real dancefloor damage

Review: Blackout Ja and Liondub unleash the first of their Blacklion Movements project and it's a big one; "Greatest Treasure" sees Blackout rolling out his distinctive gravelled tones, going toe-to-toe with another vital voice in modern day dancehall YT, while Liondub lays down a slinky, sexy dancehall rhythm. Weighty enough to buss up a system, roomy enough for both MCs to give all ladies in the dance a heartfelt salute, intimate enough to get everyone dancing up close... With Valentines Day en route, the timing of this could not be better. Treasure this.

Review: What a crazy link up we have here as Lost City joins forces with the monstrous vocal talents of Capital D for a speaker-slapping new single by the name of 'Crazy In Love', coming to us courtesy of the wonderful Liondub International team. Think dancehall, but electronic, and you are a third of the way there with this one as we are greeted by dizzying snare slaps, grizzly bass energy and a rave-ready toasted vocal line from Capital D. Review: The US is popping with drum & bass right now and Liondub International has been leading the charge for many years. This epic LP from LA duo Lost City is proof; a huge album with some of the biggest vocalists in the bass game (Navigator, Rider Shafique, Capital D, Spyda, Riko Dan, Blackout JA, the list goes on) it reflects the widest parameters of the genre with a special focus and celebration of drum & bass jungle's soundsystem roots. Highlights include the Shafique fronted dancehall stepper 'Focus' the sexy soul of 'Under Control' and the already massive 'Sicko' with Ward 21.
