Review: Gabriel Ananda's latest release disproves the widely-held belief that there is no difference between live shows and studio productions, or that performing in front of an audience requires little more than pressing a space bar. In its 'studio' version, "Alpha" is a lush, bleepy serving of Ananda's signature melodic techno, but, compared to the 'live' take, it sounds clean and considered. By contrast, the live version is rougher around the edges. The same epic melody line is at its core but the rolling rhythm is raw and grainy. Reinforcing this point is "Smash". Also recorded live, its slamming rhythm and insistent filters pack a mean punch.
