Review: Cadenza's head honcho Luciano has arranged a special series of EPs to coincide with the 15 year anniversary of his imprint, launching the first one here to begin the festivities. This is the chapter dedicated to the summer season and contains five enchanting tracks with exquisite sounds. There are moments of lush and hypnotic freefall like on "The Amazing Lilou" or dive deep into the exotic on "Hiding Hearts" or "La Tirana Del Oriente" with their wonderfully employed classical instrumentation. Elsewhere, lose yourself in the sonic sorcery of "Magik Mechanics" which is classic Luciano - superb melodic minimalism. Each episode of the series is coming out in a different season of the year.

Review: Colombian producer and DJ Pablo Cahn-Speyer arrived on the scene around 2010; seemingly out of nowhere yet made a big impression on the scene with his brand of latin infused tech house on Luciano's revered Cadenza imprint. Just like his initial presence, he then quickly disappeared into obscurity; possibly returning to his hometown Bogota after a brief spell in techno capital Berlin. But the great news is that he's back on Cadenza once again, after a four year hiatus: his last release was on New York City's Serkal in 2013. His new track "Soul Rain" is an epic and euphoric tech house anthem that's sure to case some serious heat on the dancefloor. This one builds in suspense gradually before the big drop comes. It's packed full of shimmering synths and soulful tones. The remix up next by Paco Osuna proves just why he is Barcelona's finest: a typically rolling and percussive DJ tool with The White Isle in mind.

Review: Well isn't this quite the collaboration: Cadenza boss Luciano teams up with NYC house legend David Morales on "Esperanza". Morales and Luciano composed the track together, but then each one refined their own personal mix. The "Luciano Flow Latino Mix" is a groovy and hypnotic cut that's perfect for open air extended sets this Summer from The White Isle to Berlin: you can expect to be bearing this one a lot, hypnotic stuff! It's then over to the Def Mix main man, following up those tremendous editions of The Red Zone series on Radio Slave's Rekids imprint last year. Morales carries on with his tremendous new style on this dark and tunnelling techno cut, full of heady and cavernous textures, thunderous/reverbed drenched drums and generous white noise build ups for added drama!

Review: Spanish hypnotic techno legend Eduardo de la Calle on Cadenza? You bet! Don't forget he's released for Luciano's revered imprint before: back on 2013's Precursors EP, remember? De La Calle can do now wrong as well know. The Analog Solutions head honcho serves us with "Pink Water" a stripped and atmospheric cut with sonar like synth textures, tripped out tape delays and drifting monosynth melodies: business as usual really! On "Madhusudhana" he gets more fierce with this adrenalised groove with a dark entrancing bassline and Jeff Mills style majestic strings.

Review: After years of putting out Ibiza-friendly house, it sounds like Luciano is retreating back to his abstract techno roots. This can only be a good thing, as his landmark releases, both on Cadenza and Peacefrog, focused on the road less travelled. Indeed, "Arizona Green Song", which features Marlowe on vocals, is reminiscent of his early material, with gentle bell ringing and off-beat drums signposting an undulating groove that meanders and wanders for over ten minutes. In a similar vein is "Bell's & Tonic" featuring Dani Casarano. Like his Lucien-N-Luciano album, it is built on complex, dissected rhythms, evocative melodies and touches of jazzed out weirdness. Welcome back to the weird zone, Luciano.

Review: Spanish producer De La Calle sometimes comes in for criticism because of his liberal sampling of other producers, but there is no such activity going on here. "Broken Bonus" is the only toolish track on offer, its dense drums and broken beats making for a DJ-friendly composition, Elsewhere, de la Calle delivers a more musical take on techno, and "Altar De Sacrificio" is a pulsing groove led by acid lines and smart filters. However on this release, the most impressive music is home-listening oriented. "Somewhere In Your Arms" is a mellow arrangement, its warm chords and rich pads making for de la Calle's most introspective - and rewarding - work to date.

Review: De La Calle may not seem like the most obvious choice for an appearance on Luciano's label, but the path he follows on "Precursors" is in keeping with Cadneza's trippiest moments. Indeed, "Pink Water", with its lopsided groove, weeping synths and shaking percussion is totally out there and at odds with De La Calle's straighter dance floor work. It's not a one-off either, and while the rhythm on "The Sneak" is more rolling and straightforward, it provides a basis for a tripped out coda that changes tone throughout. By contrast, "Madhusudhana" is a throbbing dubby groove powered by hissing hi-hats and a volley of claps.

Review: Luciano's label delivers more of the same drum-heavy, undulating grooves that it is known for. "Bonheur Part 1" is all dense drums and hissing percussion, but the key difference here are the liquid trancey melodies that shimmy in and out of the arrangement. On "La Playa (Part 2)", there are heavier drums, this time accompanied by snappy rhythms and embellished by bubbling melodies and jazzy piano flourishes. But it's on "Detector" that Uner sets himself apart from the tool house pack. The beats are still stripped back, but the textured melodies and emotive series of break downs will remind listeners of deep, Detroit techno-soul.

Review: In recent years Swiss-Chilean DJ Luciano's stock has risen to the point where he has enjoyed an Ibiza residency and has broken into the dance music mainstream. However, this release signals a move back towards the abstract minimal approach that Luciano made his mark with on Blind Behaviour. "Cachai" is still geared towards the dance floor, but its lithe, stripped back beats flit about the arrangement like sparks coming off a camp fire. At the same time, soulful vocal samples and Moog melodies enhance the track's ethereal feeling. On the flip, "Dance Unity" is a rhythm-heavy affair, but its dubbed out drums and niggling acid means it has the same otherwordly feeling as "Cachai".

Review: Patino's latest offering for Cadenza dispenses with the notion that Luciano's label is merely a Latin-fuelled tool house outlet. "Your Lips, Underwater" sees Patino lay down a throbbing bassline and nagging acid licks as a backdrop for a sultry female vocal. It's an impressive track, but it doesn't compare to "Hunter". Featuring Astrid on vocals, the backing track is stripped back and understated, making way for a fragile but seductive vocal that cries out "captured by the waking city, I'm always haunted, always haunted". It's a prelude for Patino to drop the most dramatic string and piano combination since Carl Craig's take on Beanfield's "Tides".

Review: Charles Siegling goes back to his house roots for Heart Of Flesh. The title track is a repetitive, rolling groove, featuring subtle filter builds and a woman crying 'give them a heart of flesh'. "Octaval" is based on a similar premise; the percussion is more niggling and bleeps insinuate themselves into the mix, but the proliferation of bongo drums and a sassy Spanish vocal sample show that Siegling is fixated on tribal house. There is one exception however; "Michigan Ride", with its subtle acid line and jacking groove, has more in common with Chicago than the late 90s house sound of London or San Francisco - or indeed Luciano's Cadenza.

Review: The latest Cadenza missive does what Reboot and indeed Luciano's label have become best known for - twisting new shapes and sounds out of tool house. The organic, shuffling groove on the original track features soaring bass licks and beautifully fragile Oriental melodies. Robert Dietz's version dispenses with these subtleties and focuses instead on rolling drums and acidic licks. Cesar Merveille's take brings the sense of melody back and adds some breezy bass licks, reminiscent of old Saunderson techno-house. However, the standout track here is "In The Sky"; clocking in at over 12 minutes its tight percussion and soulful vocal samples culminate in the cheeky sample of the vocal from Billie Ray Martin's "Your Loving Arms", which also provides the arrangement's outro.

Review: Luciano's label hits the spot again with Joyful Process. The rolling groove on the title track does much to give the typical stuttering percussion and microscopic minimal beats a sense of funk, while the repetitive, indistinct female vocal snippet will drive listeners crazy trying to work out exactly what the woman is saying. However, it's "This Broken Heart" that will garner Joyful Process a lot of attention, Once again, Laps deploy a repetitive, vocal that sounds similar to one used on an old Guerilla release. Combined with dense beats and the occasional snare roll, it has the potential to become one of the big releases of the summer.

Review: 'Click', 'glitch' and 'minimal' have become dirty words, but there is a refreshing lack of navel gazing on this release. Instead, Olivia delivers a sexy underground groove on "Piano Piano", which is characterised by sensuous piano keys and a swinging rhythm. The title track and "Jungle Dub" both see Olivia opt for rhythmic tracks, but in latter's case, the drums are loose enough to avoid sounding like a typical DJ tool track. On a different tact altogether is "Ronda", a jacking house groove in the style of classic Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon, albeit one that features a jarring electronic riff. Irrespective of labels or titles, this release shows that good music will always rise to the top.

Review: The title track sees Casarano effectively use acid influences in a contemporary sound. The 303 lines niggle and curl their way around heavy drums and a rolling, tool-ish rhythm, lending a trippy feeling to a sound that can sometimes feel functional. Casarano is in more musical form with "Dreamer", as hissing percussion and heavy drums play host to mournful piano keys that add a sense of melancholia that was lacking in the title track. Finally, "Jazzy" sees the producer go out on a creative limb: the bassline is looser and rubbery and the juxtaposition between the breathy chords and the deranged menace of the squealing sax is a sound to behold.

Review: With releases to his credit on Diynamic, 2020 Vision, Get Physical and Defected, Spanish producer Uner notches up an appearance on another esteemed label. "Pallene" is a swinging tribal groove with tough beats but a light, jazzy touch. There is also a hint of Luciano's own melancholic sound of yore - especially the approach he favoured on his Blind Behaviour album - as subtle melodies compete for the listener's attention. "Cocoua" is also based on a rolling tribal groove, but again Uner takes the path less travelled, with a sassy guitar solo and a shimmering piano line making it stand out from typical DJ tool tracks.

Review: The background to the release's title is a mystery, but it quickly becomes clear that Hawks offers the same line in tracky, tribal grooves as much of Cadenza's recent catalogue. "Unamuno" rides an off-beat rhythm, with rasping percussion and brassy riffs providing the backing for a stoned sounding male to expand on his theories about life. The finger-snapping percussion and deft arranging ensure that it doesn't sound like an identikit tool house affair. "Inumano" is more upfront and the tempo faster, as a forceful bass merges with rolling drums and stacatto percussion - but the spooky vocal sample and attention to detail ensure it stands out from the pack.

Review: Rebirth owner Shield teams up with seasoned producer Robytek for a return to the organic, freeform approach that Luciano's label used to embody. The title track is based on loose drums and underpins trippy organs, out there vocal samples and repetitive saxophone stabs. "Rendez-Vous" is more robust and its rhythm track features heavy tribal beats that roll to the sound of jazzy keys and wispy, half-heard vocals. The Italian duo save the best until last however; "Journey of Hope" is big on effects, with thunder crashing and muted crowd noise providing the intro and pacing the way for syncopated drums, kooky female vocals and the kind of melancholic bass licks last heard on Luciano's own Blind Behaviour album.

Review: Italian producer Benedetti hooks up with US house legend Todd Terry for a reassessment of 90s sounds on "You Can't Do This". The track's funky drum shuffle, tight percussion and looped funk guitar sample wear their influences visibly, like Roger Sanchez and Daft Punk jamming together. The only surprise elements are the drum rolls, which take their cues from the analogue techno of Woody McBride or Hardfloor. "Moody Elise" is informed by a similar period as disco samples and insistent samples like those used on Josh Wink's "I Am Ready" as Size 9 bombard the listener. By contrast, "My Mother's "Eyes" is deeper and more electronic, reminiscent of Luciano's own earlier flirtations with minimal house.

Review: David Ortega doesn't sound like he comes from Switzerland, but maybe the loose tribal groove and organic drums of "Innocencia" is exactly the kind of distraction that the land-locked statelet needs. It certainly follows the same approach as previous Mendo outings for Luciano's label and on a more general level, the track's use of children's vocals takes its cues from Villalobos's "Enfants". However, the way that the seductive sax line floats languidly over the arrangement is uniquely Mendo's. On the flip, "Old School" offers another fresh perspective, with a siren riff and a Public Enemy-style hip-hop sample layered over a drummy groove.
