Review: Sub-urban's popular annual compilation series returns for an eleventh time, bringing with it 12 more slabs of dancefloor-focused goodness with the label's usual intergalactic, tech-tinged twist. It begins with a gorgeous slab of spoken-word sporing melodic electro deepness (Guri, Elder and Life on Planets' superb 'The Rhythm of Life') and ends with the twinkling piano motifs, shuffling grooves, soulful vocals and rubbery electronic bass of Lee Wilson and Emi CA's 'Empty'; in between, you'll find a fine blend of locked-in tech-house bump (Discuji's 'Octavia'), bouncy and ever-rising Afro-tech ('Wili' by Roman Jack, with its' jammed-out organ motifs and glistening jazz guitar), the spacey, hands-aloft vocal house loveliness of Round Shapes Triangles, Guri & Elder's 'Forever Young' (as remixed by label founder Sebas Ramis), and the lolloping, mid-tempo swell of Discuji's 'Space Is The Place'.
Review: As Sebas Ramis' Sub_Urban Music label gets set to celebrate a decade in deep house, the label's compilation series reaches its eighth 'chapter'. Given the significance of the anniversary, you'd expect the label's latest trawl through its' archive of released and unreleased music to be extra special, and it most certainly is. Rich in rolling, deep, groovy, heart-warming and sun-kissed house sounds, 'Chapter 8' is packed to the rafters with high-grade, club-ready treats. Our picks of a very strong bunch include JT Donaldson's tactile and evocative remix of Ramis's 'High Hopes' (as well as the same remixer's wonderful rework of Dirtytwo's 'Hopeless'), Folamour's deliciously dusty revision of Guri's 'Everything I Do', the rubbery, glassy-eyed loveliness of Sebb Junior's 'Need a Break', and the bouncy brilliance that is 'Endless Luminosity' by Scott Diaz.
Review: Undeniable house music sweetness from ColorJaxx, a Belgian artist who hits the hot spot when it comes to cocktails, good times and hawaiian T-shirt music! At The Beach throws down three sample-based, slamming house bangers for the ongoing hours that mixes up jazz and funk ("Days & Days") with summery rhodes and eccentric slamming beats ("At The Beach"). Add a sultry vibe with some French touch in "C'est Bon" and all you have to wait for now is a sunset in Ibiza.
Review: A prolific house producer out of Brighton in the UK for more than 10 years now, Scott Diaz has found himself one of the Sub_Urban roster since the release of his Endless Luminosity EP in 2018. Following his Somewhere Else EP from last year, this three-track Resolution single provides the artist with his first sounds of 2021, with the lead cut delivering a classic deep house vibe of pads, washy vocals and skipping grooves. Looking toward sampled jazz loops in "Hearts Apart", Diaz teams up with Letta in "Work It Out" to deliver something R&B/soul infused that's perfect for the cocktail hour.
