Vega Records is an independent music label founded by legendary New York DJ, producer, and remixer, Louie Vega, in 2003. After years of success as a solo artist, Vega founded Vega Records with the aim of creating a platform for artists who shared his passion for soulful and uplifting house music. Since its inception, Vega Records has released over 200 singles and albums, showcasing the talents of both established and emerging artists from around the world. Vega's uncompromising commitment to quality and his ability to identify and nurture talent have made Vega Records one of the most respected labels in the industry. The label's roster includes some of the most respected names in house music, including Mr. V, Sara Devine, and Monique Bingham.
Vega Records' releases have been critically acclaimed and have received numerous awards and nominations, including a Grammy nomination for Best Remixed Recording in 2013. The label's signature sound, which blends the soulful melodies and rhythms of classic disco and soul with the energy and excitement of house music, has become synonymous with the Vega brand.
Review: This time last year, Vega Records debuted Tony Touch's 'Apaga La Luz', a deliciously raw and sweat-soaked slab of Latin dancefloor dirtiness, as part of a vinyl-only package of 'unreleased' tracks. 12 months on, the track is finally getting a full release - and in the world of Vega Records, that means countless new remixes and dancefloor variations. Fittingly Louie Vega kicks things off, joining forces with Josh Milan on the bouncy Latin-house Two Soul Fusion remix and more stripped-back 'Beat-Sax Mix', before David Guetta speeds things up on a surprisingly tasteful rework that recalls his early career contributions to the Africanism project. David Morales successfully re-frames the track as a squelchy bassline-propelled house roller (his main 'remix' and 'instrumental' takes), while Mike Dunn uses his 'Re-Touch' to make Touch's beats and bassline even dirtier and sweatier.
Review: UK stalwart Tony Touch steps up with an Afro-house/UK funky-flavoured workout that's served up in a whopping eight mixes - four from Mr Touch himself and four from Pablo Fierro. Touch's OG Main and Alternate mixes are both quite similar in sound, while the OG Instrumental and Spoken Word mixes ditch the chanted vocal and the insistent horns, respectively. Fierro's remixes flip the script just a little more, as he smoothes things out considerably on his Afro Latino and Cariocas rubs, while finally his OK 808 Mix adds a lil' electronic flava, though even that's quite subtle.
Review: Although nowhere near as famous as her husband Louie Vega, with whom she works with extensively, Ana 'Anane' Martins has still managed to amass a rather impressive discography over the last couple of decades. This epic compilation showcases some of her favourite cuts to date, including a handful of previously unheard gems and some high-profile remixes by other artists of her work. Highlights are plentiful from start to finish, with our picks including her warm tropical house cover of Bunny Mack classic 'Let Me Love You' (produced by Mike Dunn), Louie Vega's moonlit Latin house-meets-zouk rework of the steamy 'Bem Ma Mi', a suitably funky, loose-limbed and low-slung Masters at Work dub disco mix of 'Standing In Line' and a couple of luscious Manoo re-rubs of 'Let's Get High'.
Review: Really this should be called 'Elements Of Life Extensions: Extensions', because for this reissue the 2004 remixed version of Vega's landmark 2003 long-player has been beefed up from eight tracks to 16. 'Elements Of Life' saw Vega turning his back on tuff NYC house in favour of summery, Latin- and jazz-infused soul, and for anyone who loved the original album this is an essential purchase - Jazz N' Grooves blissed-out take on 'Mozalounge' is worth the price of admission on its own! But check it out even if you weren't a fan, if only for the dreamaway space disco of 'Steel Congo' and a very respectable cover of Candido's classic 'Thousand Finger Man'.
