Review

Parisian house gangster and all round unstoppable force Phil Weeks is back: on Robsoul of course! With Raw Instrumental 2 be prepared for some rough and raw, looped up shenanigans that all wear the unmistakable grit of the Akai MPC on them. Starting off in fine form with the deep down and dirty jack of "The Rhythm" or the brazen disco flava of "Can't Live Without Your Love" or the lo-slung funk dynamics of "Night Drive". There's fine form later on and throughout, such as on the fittingly titled "House Head" which really works that infectious sense of swing that the big white box does oh so well. We must also mention the gutsy closer "Excess" which works those dusty loops into a mighty crescendo just like the Chi-town master DJ Sneak could do back in the day.
