The PNN label has truly encapsulated everything that we love about the current forms of hybrid dance music that's trending across the scene. Notions of deep house, ambient and lo-fi are all at the forefront of this ever-impressive catalogue, and newcomer Roku fits the bill magnificently. His debut five-tracker, Tok, comes with different iterations of the same core idea, a sultry blend of bass-driven machine-drum soul for the left-of-fielders. A mid-tempo groove is present across each of these abstract cuts, bringing in elements from dub, glitch, and a little two-step action for lovers of Burial's signature swing. However, unlike the UK legend, this is even further out into the ether, pushing the limits of what is considered dance music.
