Review
1986's Sewele is from the early career of Nigerian juju star Shina Peters, which Strut now present as an exclusive reissue. Peters had said that this album represented a time of transition in his music career, when he branched out as a solo artist after stints with Ebenezer Obey, Prince Adekunle and Segun Adewale. It was an important time: it's here that he found his own voice and to play juju in a more progressive direction. Three years later, he honed that sound into 'AfroJuju'. The title track translates to 'shower of blessings' and as Peters stated himself 'it's like a prayer for my fans throughout Nigeria and the diaspora.'
