Review

Eric Adiele's debut came in the form of an album for R&S last year, and while it certainly does its own thing in terms of style and guise, we like to think of it as originating from the Stones Throw school of thought. Loose, experimental hip-hop and r&b with a distinctive electronic edge to render it accessible to more than one audience of listeners. This is his comeback EP, entitled Slam Dunks Vol.2, and it follows in the same vein as its predecessor -an altogether singular strain of r&b that stretches the genre to its very limits. "Court Vision" is a deep, sensual slice of magic featuring Evy Jane's delightful vocal swagger, while "Skip To My Lou" is rougher, more beat-heavy and a little further out into the ether. "I Love This Game" goes as far as reaching techno territories in the same sort of style as peeps like Actress and, unsurprisingly, there's a remix of "Court Vision" from the Werk Discs boss himself - a murkier, deeper take on the original travelling into hyperspace with the help of some mystical synths. Recommended.
